Birchbox Man Review March 2015

Birchbox Man (www.birchbox.com) is a subscription that seeks to pamper those who grow massive amounts of hair out of their faces and don’t freak out about it. For $20 every month your man (or whoever, I am not here to judge or put labels on you and yours) will get hair/skin samples and an accessory item. Items range from the dreaded pocket square (I REALLY should write a side post about this), to a flask, or even socks.

Much like the regular women’s subscription service, points are issued for reviews. 10 points per review with 10 points = $1. If you have an account you can add the men’s subscription and review from one account which is pretty cool.

Boldly Go Theme
Boldly Go Theme

The theme for March is “Boldly Go.” The theme is spooky timing considering the death of Leonard Nimoy, who will be missed by the cool and the nerds alike. Anyway, I wonder what it is like to come up with these monthly themes. I sort of feel like I would be pretty good at it. They just seem so vague and random! I also wonder if the people at Birchbox are sort of afraid of the person who came up with this month theme. Could it be possible this person is sort of psychic?

I will email them and ask, if they reply I will share it!

Outside of Box
Outside of Box

The outside of the box is a less flashy than the female version but they still put the little saying in front of your name on the address side. This time I was “The Bulletproof Subscriptionista.” Yeah, Birchbox knows…they know.

Box Pulls Out
Box Pulls Out

Here is another picture so you can see how it pull out like a drawer. I am going to steal this and use it as a place to put my jewelry and such. Thieves will think “Damn, this chick needs to cool it on all the boxes because she has nothing of worth to steal…”

Do The Right Thing - Sample Trio
Do The Right Thing – Sample Trio

Do The Right Thing Sample Trio: On the info card they said they “threw it in.” It is nice to have a bonus and might be a good way to have your guy try out serum and different lotions if he is not the fighting back type. You ladies know what I am talking about. The kind who will say “No. This is not going to happen. Isn’t it enough that I don’t say anything when you spend hours in your inside out PJs -which we need to talk about by the way- obsessing over these things? Now you are trying to make me use this stuff too?!?”

Yes. Yes I do. Be one with the hive my love. One. With. The. Hive

My Value: Nothing will spice up a relationship like gentle nagging.

Billy Jealousy - LiquidSand Exfoliating Facial Cleanser
Billy Jealousy – LiquidSand Exfoliating Facial Cleanser

Billy Jealousy – LiquidSand Exfoliating Facial Cleanser: I can totally imagine the people over at Billy Jealousy putting together the name of this product. I bet that the idea struck just after they sent the intern out to pick up some grub from a restaurant they saw on “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives,” but right before they peeped the new Ed Hardy fashion show for more label art ideas. High fives were roundly given to be sure!

My Value: Explaining to a guy that putting “LiquidSand” on his face is a good idea because it’s sorta like taking it to the beach!

TowelDry - Mid Styler
TowelDry – Mid Styler

TowelDry – Mid Styler: This product is probably the biggest enigma of any I have come across. The info card says that it is “firm-yet-pliable,” it is also a “paste, cream, and pomade.” It is nothing, yet it is EVERYTHING. This product haunted me all day. It was in my head but not in my hair!

My Value: With its frosting like consistency you can spread this on a cupcake and teach that coworker who eats your sweets a very important lesson. You might even be able to still keep your job!

Proraso - Shave Cream
Proraso – Shave Cream

Proraso – Shave Cream: This product didn’t have much of a lather but it does have a good morning smell. Ladies you DO NOT want to borrow/steal this from your man and trim “Ye Olde Hedges” if you catch my meaning and I think you do. If there is anywhere in the world you don’t want a “brisk, refreshing kick,” it is there.

My Value: I can use this to make my shower bubble beard far more realistic.

Skullcandy - Ink'd 2 Earbud
Skullcandy – Ink’d 2 Earbud

Skullcandy – Ink’d 2 Earbud: I guess I imagined “Boldly Go” a little differently then the soothsayer at Birchbox. I don’t make the connection of being bold and shutting myself off from my surroundings. Maybe if one were to play “Danger Zone” and walk with purpose in a hallway? I dunno. To me this doesn’t really fit the theme but it is a nice item to get. Even if I do end up just wearing them around so no one tries to engage me in small talk.

As an aside, I do actually wear earbuds when they are not on. Once I was on a plane and was doing just that when I overheard the two girls next to me comment on how it was nice to meet someone social because “most people are unfriendly and just wear their earphones while traveling.” Then they gave each other looks to indicate that they both were talking about me. Ladies, if you are reading this I just honestly had no intention of prattling on with you about your life/travel plans when there was a brand new Alaska Airlines magazine out. A girl has got to have priorities in life!

My ValueThe edgier look of these earbuds will make a statement to the person sitting next to me on an airplane, one that my fourth glass of red wine may not.

Final Verdict: I am not sure how well these items fit into the theme as it was very vague to start with and one persons bold is another persons ho-hum. I do however think that the collection of products were varied and would allow a man to step out from his comfort zone and try out useful products.

This was a fun read. My older son used to receive this box. He stopped because he couldn’t use up the products fast enough.

I don’t see this one being an every month type of thing either. It’s a lot of stuff for a guy to use up! As always thanks for reading! Today my oui please box came so it’ll be interesting to see what they gave me.

I can’t wait to read the Oui, Please review.

The Towel-Dryer Mid Styler description cracked me up. I can see my son and I having the same type of conversation about it. He loves Billy Jealousy products, and all I can think when I am ordering them off of Birch Box is what kind of name is that? I don’t miss paying for the sub, but i do miss the points.

I thought the name and branding for billy jealousy to be totally odd. I guess I’m just not trendy! The mid styler is really cream cheese frosting like…looks so good! I will miss the points for, sure. I think they should make it $15.

Love your review 🙂 Debated this box, but just don’t see much my husband would use. Pretty much plain soap and water type of guy.

I agree that the box won’t suddenly make a soap and water guy jump up and excitedly debate with you about serums hahaha I find it interesting that they put treats in the guys boxes but there is no option like that for us ladies. Last months box had two pairs of happy socks and that was pretty darn cool!

My almost 16 year old (sniff, sniff) loved getting the box especially the lifestyle items. They did a great job for a teenage boy. My husband could care less about it. I want them to do a similar box for women! I’m all for receiving 5 samples and a lifestyle item for $20.00.

They really should for us women! Maybe they make more just by having us add on items… Add on items always seem so spendy to me!
