PopSugar Must Have Review March 2015

Popsugar (https://musthave.popsugar.com/ )is a subscription that is in the lifestyle category. Items in the box usually have something home related, beauty, and the like. It is actually one of my favorite subs and my very first box ever. Popsugar is my gateway box! It is $39.95 a month and usually there are coupons floating around to save $5 or $10. Sometimes even 50%!

Like most boxes the theme is usually a grouping of words with little meaning upon even a second of thought. This month? “Renewal, Citrus, Spring Break, Fresh, and Traveling.” This company loves word groupings. There motto is “Surprise, Love, Enjoy!” I guess if it sells boxes…

The box is usually packed really nicely and I have never had anything arrive broken or damaged.

Halfpops - Halfpopped Popcorn (Sea Salt)
Halfpops – Halfpopped Popcorn (Sea Salt)

Halfpops – Halfpopped Popcorn (Sea Salt): I really don’t know what to say about this snack other then it is a new concept to me. The idea is because it is half popped it has more flavor. This may be true, but I am not a huge stickler for the taste of popcorn. Usually I eat my popcorn by mindlessly shoveling it in my mouth while watching the Food Network only stopping to mutter “I can cook that” and “I could do that WAY better.” Never stopping to realize that I never cook and am a slob.

My Value: Perfect prop as proof for fooling loved ones that you are from the not so distant future and have an important message for them!

Bliss - Micromagic Microdermabrasion Treatment
Bliss – Micromagic Microdermabrasion Treatment

Bliss – Micromagic Microdermabrasion Treatment: This was the cause of The Great Paraben Debate on MSA. Actually the more I learn about them the more I want to faze them out because better safe then sorry. Bliss is a pretty spendy brand and this product does work. Unlike their cellulite creams which I am ashamed to say I used in the mad attempt to get rid of the ever present mess that is the back of my thighs. This product isn’t all natural but it will work as a scrub.

My Value: This product showed me the cutthroat passion that was missing on my favorite box review site!

Wet Brush - The Squirt
Wet Brush – The Squirt

Wet Brush – The Squirt: What a funny same for a travel brush. I actually have been wanting to try this out because I like to brush my hair while it is wet but know it is super bad to do so, because like terrorists or something. Anyway, this went with the theme and will be easy to tote around. As an aside did anyone notice the total 80s vibe white folks on the package?

Close up of White Folks
Close up of White Folks

My Value: I will flash this brush at the pool and finally be able to convince people that my name is Coco (daughter of Biff), and that I play an amazing game of tennis!

Knock Knock - What To Pack Pad
Knock Knock – What To Pack Pad

Knock Knock – What To Pack Pad: I travel a good amount and can say that this pad is a huge waste for me. I don’t see who would find value in this item. It is whole pad of an already filled out packing list. The list itself is filled with things that you may or may not want to bring on a trip and does not have me in mind at all. If it did, then little bottles of booze, Ambien,  and my travel pillow with attached kitty ear hoodie would be at the top of the list. Sadly, it does not.

My Value: Can be used to make a flip book of a stick figure burning money in lieu of buying a pre made packing list!

Benefit - Roller Last Mascara and POREfessional
Benefit – Roller Lash Mascara and POREfessional

Benefit – Roller Lash Mascara and POREfessional: A special extra! Woot!!! How many boxes is this mascara ending up in? This is one of the biggest marketing campaigns for mascara I have ever seen. You cannot swing an opened box without one of these falling out! Still, I am excited to give it a try! Do you think it will curl my eyelashes so much that I will resemble Lambchop? I hope so.

My Value: I no longer will be typecast as a “Big Bird” now that I can get those Snuffleupagus lashes!

Samdura - Pink Pina Zip Pouch
Samdura – Pink Pina Zip Pouch

Samdura – Pink Pina Zip Pouch: I wonder in what universe someone would pay the suggest retail of $40 for this item. I really do. The “see-through material” that is “great for easy access to all your beach items,” is plastic not space age magic fiber. It is a large pink plastic pouch with pineapples on it that can hold your beach crap in it. I really take issue with how inflated this retail value is. It demeans Samdura, Popsugar, my intelligence, and worst of all pineapples.

My Value: Will be perfect to stuff with embarrassing items that do not belong by the beach thereby freaking out any potential thieves who want to steal my money and keys I hid inside my shoes because I am a genius.

Greenmarkey Purveying Co - Diffuser Kit
Greenmarkey Purveying Co – Diffuser Kit

Greenmarkey Purveying Co – Diffuser Kit: It is nice to see a home item, and also get that “Citrus” promised in the theme since this was a lemon cucumber scent. I am not sure where I want to put this just yet because my place, like my life, is a mess. It is handmade with natural ingredients so I don’t feel as nervous having in near me as I sleep. My cat is the only thing I can tolerate trying to kill me as I sleep.

My Value: Nice packaging for gift giving or sprucing up that public bathroom you always find yourself using!

Overall: Sort of a disappointing box this month. Not terrible, and not great. I was happy with the last two months, but March has fallen short of expectations. I get really annoyed when I see over inflated values for items and I feel the products included were disjointed. Check Minus and no gold star!

I agree on that bag, what on earth makes it worth $40? It is cute and I like it, but that price tag makes it seems silly to even consider. As that and the brush were my favorite two items it was a bit of a let down box. Who knows though, I may actually get my den clean enough to find a ‘safe’ spot to try the fragrance oil. The Half Pops I got rid of after trying a few, I have broken a few too many teeth on popcorn.

Here’s to hoping for a better April box.

    Your move still progressing?

Thanks for asking! I’m still moving slowly on the moving front! It is so hard to work and try to move. Also I have a tough time finding energy. I can’t wait to get it all done, yet I move so slow!

I enjoyed reading this review especially the cat comment. How long have you been subscribing to PopSugar? I didn’t order March’s box and am glad. I do think the diffuser is nice. The infamous paraben debate – I’m anti-paraben, but I stayed out of it because I don’t know how much people get out of arguing about stuff like that. What is your opinion on not receiving a full-szie snack (that’s what I read) and receiving a sample-size mascara , a notepad, and travel-size brush? I like the notepad, but overall it seemed more like a mini PopSugar box. I debated about whether to write it because I don’t want to take away anyone’s enjoyment of the box. Maybe it is all in my head because I see the Bliss as having zero value.

I did order April’s box. I can’t believe May boxes are already opened. That is insane and too far ahead for me to decide if I want it.

Don’t worry, you can say what you feel about a box here without worry. All four of us who read this are cool lol Plus I find it weird when people take others dislikes personally. I did not really think this box was a good value. I did think the other two I have received were. I got jan, and feb. For christmas I was given the holiday box which I LOVED. I’m hopeful this was just an off month. You are right it was totally a mini box!!!

It’s interesting how people identity closely with a company. I wonder what causes it in sub boxes? I’ve been receiving PopSugar off and on for about a year. I haven’t received boxes this year although I liked the cheeseboard. April will be my first one for 2015.

People just hate to admit when they didn’t get a great deal. I get all upset when I figure it out but it’s not a personal thing. I read another review of this box and it made a good point on just how disappointing it was. Oh well, I think next month will be better because how could it not?!?

Last month’s was really nice, so hoping this is an off month and we can go back to good stuff again…. I think March was just a bad month for most sub boxes.

I’m hoping April is a good month… It’d be nice if all my boxes showed up lol

Mail has been really funky lately, not sure what is up with the post office. We ship stuff at my work and some things have gone from Portland to VIRGINIA when it was supposed to go to Seattle! Go figure.

I love pdx btw! I have a place there and visit a lot. Reminds me of the Bay Area when I was growing up, but like, in my dream memory lol San Diego has the slowest shipping ever. I once did a swap from LA and it took two weeks to get to me
