Darby Smart Box – March 2015 Review

Disclosure: At the end of this review is a link that if you use to sign up will credit $15 to my account and give you $10 to yours if you choose to use it. This link is NOT in any other part of the review.

Darby Smart is a subscription box that sends out DIY projects that strive to be easy and fun. You can go monthly for $19, 6 Months for $114, or Yearly for $199 (on sale from 228). Sometimes they have coupons floating around which is what I ended up using to take like 20% or so off of a longer subscription.

The website has really cute projects on it and after reading  some reviews I went ahead and signed up. I did this knowing full well that I was probably going to be stacking these projects for the day when I could finally just relax and do something fun! After all, binge watching TV, going to happy hour, and thinking about what life would be like if we all had tails takes up a TON of time. #busybutnotactuallybusy

The box showed up a little later in the month then I would have liked. It is clearly marked and lets others know that you MAKE things. Probably fancy things even!

Right away I could tell that I was not going to finish this project any time soon. It looks to be pretty simple but time consuming. The idea of making a sunglasses case is pretty cool, I just don’t think yarn is a great material for it. I shove my sunglasses into bags that get sand and Doritos crumbs in them. Not even to mention the unholy amount of cat hair I seem to track every place I go! Yarn is going to pick those little things right up!

I can imagine reaching for my sunglasses only to pull out a yarn case covered in my secret crumb shame!

The good news is that there are a lot of different things that can be done with the materials. I like that I can think up my own use for them. I also liked that they gave me everything I needed to complete a project. I 100% hate going to craft stores. The lines are so slow! I have never breezed in and breezed out of a craft store. Ever.

Subscribers get different boxes so not everyone ended up with this one. I saw online that someone had been sent a really cool wood burning kit. I hope I end up with one of those!

I have this subscription for awhile so we can see if it is really worth it. I will also post when I complete this project but I am hoping the next box is more worth my time.

Everyone received the same box when I was a subscriber back in 2014. It seems they made changes in 2015. Even buying the boxes is different.

I love craft boxes because the ones that I subscribed in the past included everything needed. I haven’t crafted in years! I’m backlogged on craft boxes and need to catch up so I cancelled all of them except Twined which is bimonthly. I may cancel twined because too many of the projects involve burlap which I hate.

I HATE burlap as well! It sheds everywhere and just is so rough to touch. I can’t imagine wearing a sack of it.

Not one of their better boxes to me. Not sure I want to put the time into this project. Really pretty yarn though. May have to do a different project with it.
    Love the review 🙂
