Ipsy Review – May 2015

Ipsy (www.ipsy.com) is a subscription that costs $10 a month and sends out four or five deluxe sample size beauty items. Because of the price point it invites comparisons with Birchbox. Ipsy is more make up based, and has a “waitlist.” You can skip this wait if you pimp out your social media. I just emailed and asked to be put on the list and it was done very quickly.

Jetsetter
Jetsetter

May’s Ipsy theme is – Jetsetter: While I would 100% love to tear up the tarmac in a pink suit and crop top while carrying a ton of shopping bags and strangely sipping on a Slurpee, my life is pretty boring these days. What flavor do you think she is drinking. I am guessing cherry because it won’t make her mouth weird colors like other flavors. Oddly I think this is a helicopter in the background. Are you still jetsetting or are you helisetting at that point?

At any rate I am glad Ipsy thought to give me a small glimpse of the lifestyle!

Ipsy Bag - "Contents: My Life"
Ipsy Bag – “Contents: My Life”

Ipsy Bag – “Contents: My Life”: This bag put me in an all out existential crisis. What is life, and what would it be like to put what was important to me in one bag. There are a lot of people who have been faced with that questions or worse. Also what does this say about our culture and my own preoccupations with things that don’t matter? My obsession with subscription boxes and beauty products probably stems from my deep insecurities and now my ever increasing terror of aging.

With all these thoughts swirling around me, I did take the time to notice that this bag is a nice canvas and fun looking if you don’t have a ton of issues or time to worry about them like me.

Added bonus that when I am done thinking over my life I can then focus on the “Breakups to Makeup” line and lament all the losers I dated in the past! Yay!

Brigeo - Rosarco Milk
Brigeo – Rosarco Milk

Brigeo – Rosarco Milk: I love leave in conditioning treatments! This one works well and I like the smell. I just wonder about “Rosarco” actually is, and if you find out please drop me a comment. I could only find that there is rosehip oil, along with a host of other hair friendly oils. It also has lavender in it, so to all you ladies who don’t dig on lavender watch out. While I am not sure what Rosarco blend milk is, I will bet that it does not come from nips. I am not a medical Dr though…

Is it weird that every time I spray this on my hair I Moo?

Luxie - Tapered Blending Brush
Luxie – Tapered Blending Brush

Luxie – Tapered Blending Brush: For me a brush is jackpot city! It makes the entire bag worth it even if I use nothing else. This brush works really well and is soft. That is a must because my eyelids are like butterfly wings. Ask my mother, she will back me up on this. She will also be sort of surprised that you gave her a call!

Can be used to lightly paint my face in an abstract manner while listing to Enya. Just like any regular lunch hour!

Urban Decay
Urban Decay

Urban Decay – 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil: I think this is a great idea. I don’t like that it is a pencil and so needs to be sharpened from time to time. For the lazy that is a bummer. However as someone with little lips that long to be full and awesome it is nice to hold out some hope!

Urban Decay – Lipgloss (Failbait and Bittersweet): I hate samples like this because they don’t shut and I have to use my own brush to apply it. That said, these colors were really pretty! I am a huge fan of them and have a few I am going to try out!

Even if you dislike lip products the names of all the colors are super hilarious to read and imagine people coming up with them. “Oh yeah, we HAVE to name this one 69! We simple HAVE to!!!”

PIC COMING SOON

Pixi by Petra – Beauty Bronzer (Summertime): I totally thought I took a pic of this but I did not and now I am too lazy to leave my glass of wine to go take a picture of it. So sorry I am that sort of lazy but if you have read this blog at all before then you knew what you were getting in this relationship.

I feel really good after we had this talk!

It Cosmetics - CC Cream (Medium)
It Cosmetics – CC Cream (Medium)

It Cosmetics – CC Cream (Medium): I refuse to believe that model had those kind of bags underneath her eyes unless she was not eating right or something. I don’t put a lot into study results until I can actually take a look at the study. This one seems to be based on the reports of the subjects. For me, that doesn’t do a whole lot to make me believe any numbers. However, this did work pretty well for me, and I like the product.

If I ever play that old school Oregon Trail game and die of dysentery I know just the cream to bring me back to life!

Final VerdictI like that Ipsy always delivers a bag that is fun to try while still giving me items that are useful for the longer term. I don’t think I have been bored yet!

ROTFL, love it. Did you see the ingredients on the CC+ cream? Take a look… I got that cream and the glamglow and I got a FULL size bottle of hair mousse, was impressed by that.

Full size?!? That is AWESOME!! I never use hair mousse even though I always swear to myself that I will. It really does make a difference when blowdrying for volume. It also gives me a happy memory of trying to be like my big sister when I was little.

Holy crap there is like everything in the CC Cream! I am going to have to find the time to get through them all….crap there is a ton of stuff in it!

      • May 21, 2015 at 3:32 am

On the cream I think it is the second ingredient (that is interesting), something to do with snails…… I was very impressed by the full can of mousse, now I just have to start using it….. Oh yeah I got the Nude Dude eyeshadow and Klorane eye patches

          ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Not uhhhhhhh ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

So are you in love with your eyeshadow? No, not the color I mean you “dude.” hahaha

I want to try the eye patches. I just know I would hoard them. Let me know what you think about them.

No hoarding! I was at my sister’s yesterday and left feeling so sad. I don’t think it will ever get better.

Shana in OR – I’ve been lurking on the MSA forum. I feel bad you’ve been having problems with your swaps. I love your comment about how CA and OR touche each other. I don’t know why USPS would send a package to GA enroute from CA to OR.

          • May 23, 2015 at 5:44 am

I was just dumbfounded that they would send it cross country. You should see the packaging, it was in a bubble wrap envelope and the items were bubble wrapped. I think maybe 10% of the bubbles are still intact. one of the items was a bottle of vinegar from the last LLB box. The bottle was in one piece – lots of packing over lots of kleenex. I was so impressed that it did not break. The funniest part was USPS telling her I must have set up a forwarding address… They must have been drinking on the job.

I really like the forums and getting other people’s opinions. I am still feeling rather new to swapping – though the people at the post office all know me now 🙂 Have had quite a few good swaps too, and overall it has been pretty positive. I was really impressed with my swapper from CA, she really worked hard to track down that stupid package.

I am going to try to remember to get those Klorane patches in the fridge tomorrow and use them in the evening. Nothing beats cold eye patches, works even better for swelling. Will tell you what I think of them.

It sounds so undercover how they sent it. Very goat like…hmmmmmm,m

I’ve been happy with swaps! Now I usually just swap with folks I’ve swapped with before. I dunno why. I also have become super picky because shipping adds up.

Ok I’m looking forward to the eye patches review. Also if you have a blog always feel free to put links here. Though my traffic is small.

I love forums! Though at MSA they get me to buy more

          • May 23, 2015 at 6:20 am

Actually that was a swap that was sent from CA to OR to me. USPS decided to give it a cross country trip…. Maybe the goats did get to it though….

They have a hoof in everything…

          • May 24, 2015 at 7:32 pm

I love the klorane eye patches, put them in the fridge to get then cold and then used them. I think I found a new favorite item, and they are made in Japan (not China). They lowered my eye puffiness and felt good.

Thanks so much for letting me know. I’m going to try to get my paws on them to see if it’ll work for me. I have been getting puffy. I’m hoping it’s just allergies

I read this a few days ago and am still pondering the tagline “Breakups to Makeup”. I ended up thinking the same thoughts of makeup to wear when breaking up. I saw the Brigeo Rosarco Milk at TJ Maxx the other night. I was trying to remember where I saw it recently on a blog. Now i know! All I can think of when I read your tagline is “The cow goes Moo!” It must be from a children’s book I read often. Then my mind goes to “What does the Fox say?” which my older son played too many times.

LOL on the Urban Decay stuff. I would not be surprised if something is called “69”. Great talk and love the reference to the Oregon Trail. Did you know you can buy it as a PC game. I think my younger son’s generation should be called 80s Part 2.

I listened to Enya on YouTube the whole time while typing my response. I wonder why? I used to have her CDs. I may purchase one to load up in the car. I listened to Only Time and bawled my eyes out. I have no idea why. I think yesterday was a stressful day with my sister. She lives in a rental on our country property. The kitchen is starting to look like a scene from Hoarders. I’m running out of options/ideas with her. It looks like I may have to evict her. I don’t want to, but she quit all her therapies etc. She doesn’t want help.

My dad was a hoarder. Totally is emotional for everyone. I feel you. It actually took me time to reply because I could feel the stress and just abject hopelessness I felt. It’s so draining. My family always ask me what I want for this or that. The only thing I want is for them to get their stuff handled so they won’t burden me lol oh well. I feel you.

69 is an actual color listed on the card. Hand to god.

Lol the fox comment put the song in my head. I once wrote a song for Camilla. Where is my internet fame?!? Lol

Oh no. I’m sorry to remind you about that. That is how I felt Thursday when I left her house. I think that is why I cried so much during the song.

I remember when using wet and wild nail polish was a big deal. So 69 is an actual color.

You need to share the song. I ended up buying the Best of Enya off of Amazon for the car. Maybe it will help with the stress with my sister.

Oh my gosh don’t worry! It’s always good for me to reflect. I’m what people call “no filter” and I’m working hard on it. Part of it is actually becoming self aware. I’m just an asshole now, before I was a full on asshole. Hahaha

Enya is so calming. I don’t care what anyone says about them. They are just so soothing!

Wet and wild! The mention brings me back. When I was 9 I would always buy the brightest red lipstick and wear it around like I was awesome. I looked so silly. Still have family making fun of me and my “ruby red lips” hahahha

(((HUGS))) PA Anna, Hoarding is a mental health issue and so very hard to deal with. They have to be able to admit there is a problem, and many of them can’t do that. I am sorry you have to deal with this.

        May 24, 2015 at 3:24 am

Thank You. Her mental issues won’t allow her to deal with her physical issues. We started to deal with her physical issues for a couple of months, but that came to an abrupt stop.

It’s freakin stressful I know. You’re a good sister at least. I’m not nearly as nice as you.

        • May 25, 2015 at 12:36 am

(((hugs))) I hope you take care of yourself too, can’t just try to help your sister only. i saw you wanted some of the lavender items from Oui Please. I can post the large bar of soap and sachet if you want to swap. Also got a great looking bath sachet in lavender from Vegan Cuts this month. Let me know and I can post them on MSA Swap boards. put a note on the bijoux box review here which may have more info – cat conspiracy, my cat is on me and will be very perturbed if I get up and look at the Oui Please box.

I know this is super late, but I was browsing through all your reviews so had to tell you in case you were still wondering – Rosarco stands for the Rosehip-Argon Oil-Coconut contents (Ros-Ar-Co)! I bought this conditioner in full size since I love it so much!

Thanks for the comment and I appreciate any help to understand items. I’m not as good with the beauty stuff as you all and need all the help I can get!!!

What if we all had to get names that were the first letters of our three favorite ice cream flavors… I’d be Chomincof!
