Oui Please 1.4 – Escape to the French Riviera 2015

Oui Please (Ouiplease.com) is a subscription that seeks to give us Americans a bite of the croissant so to speak. Every other month subscribers receive lifestyle items that are French for the price of $175 a box or if you actually subscribe $150 a box. It is $650 for a year. Each box is supposed to have items in it that value $400 or over. I signed up for a year using a 20% off code because I like to live dangerously but not too dangerously.

So it would be totally weird not to address all the Oui Please controversy that seems to have spilled over from the last box’s problems. I am not an apologist by any means, especially since I pay for this subscription 100% with my own money that sadly was not left to me by some old Scottish uncle duck. I only bring up that this sub usually brings a pretty good value for what I pay.

I also want to address something I saw on forums. Namely that Oui Please doesn’t answer emails. I personally have always had my emails replied to within 24 hours. So I wonder if this is just an issue of filters or even an incorrect email. I dunno, I want to reach out to the person that has the problem and offer to email for them but then I don’t want to be outright weird.

I am not going to argue that the last boxes delays were crazy and all the excuses did not ring genuine. I just want to be real on my own personal experience with this box, and that they have no idea that I write for this blog. I don’t use my name and I use a totally different email.

Alright, let’s go ahead and pop open a nice bottle of wine because I don’t want to drink alone… I will though…

Oui Please!
Oui Please!

Yay! Camilla says she has been waiting to break out her tail feathers for a good box!

Oui Please Box !
Oui Please Box !

Still a great reusable box! Remember when we were all sort of wow’d by this? (Sub Bella let me know if you want me to include one of these in my next shipment to you because I have three now and you might want to check out what a nice actual box it is… pretty primo and the best I have personally seen)

Shake your Bow-Tie - Shell Bracelet
Shake your Bow-Tie – Shell Bracelet
Shake your Bow-Tie - Shell Bracelet (I love the tag!)
Shake your Bow-Tie – Shell Bracelet (I love the tag!)

Shake your Bow-Tie – Shell Bracelet: How awesome is the packaging?!? I saw this in one of the spoilers and thought “ohhhhh I want! I want!” And I got! I love the whole kitty thing because let’s face it I am crazy for kitties!! I also love the style of this piece. I have some bracelets that invoke the feel of this, but I feel like the delicate beachy feel of this piece is spot on. I love that it has a black portion on it because it take me from drinking on the beach to stumbling into the bar!

I was worried that it was too small, and I have super small wrists. It ended up fitting just fine, but I find it hard to believe all the women in France are part bird. All their jewelry seems so delicate and small. While my wrists are absurdly small the rest of me is not, are we Americans so hearty and dare I say beautiful that even French jewelry will not contain the awesome?

This bracelet was handmade with leather and flax, so even if you hate it and just decide to eat it there are benefits!

Graine de Pastel - Baume de Cocagne
Graine de Pastel – Baume de Cocagne

Graine de Pastel – Baume de Cocagne:  How heavy is this item?!? No wonder my box was over 7 pounds! I am a super bad blogger who has not cracked this open yet. I figure because it is free of parabens, phenoxyethanol, minerals and silicon, that it may be a nice treat for someone who wouldn’t kill little fairies if it gave them any youth at all. Mind you, I have yet to get my greedy paws on one!

Baume de Cocagne had me thinking of a French Liquor… While this does not quench my thirst for booze it will quench my skins dryness.

Graine de Pastel - Hand Cream
Graine de Pastel – Hand Cream

Graine de Pastel – Hand Cream: I am not a huge user of hand cream for just my hands. I like to use my lotions with wild abandon. Show me a face cream and I will show you my new elbow treat! This just like the product above is sans anything bad. It says it has a delicate scent but I am not sure as I have not cracked this open (see what I did there?!?) I am going to see first if Sub Bella wants it because she likes things that won’t make her hands fall off!

I like to imagine using hand cream to annoy someone. Like I am in a long line with people behind me and I have to pay but instead of my wallet I pull out hand cream and just start to apply it in a lavish manner. “What?!?” I will sneer as those behind me become angry. “I deserve the right to protect my maidenly hands!”

Pier Auge - Body Balm
Pier Auge – Body Balm

Pier Auge – Body Balm: At this point when going through the contents on my box I start to wonder how much lotion a person can use… I have super dry skin so I am not upset by the large amount of lotion in this box I am just perplexed. Do women in France become shriveled up in the summer? Do they all yearn for the winter when they will plump up again like grapes?

Do you think it is actually rude to have dry skin in their culture? Like if you want to disrespect someone at say, their wedding, you show up with dry skin? That will teach him for leaving me for her you’ll think to yourself smugly as your dry skin fills the room…

Brut is the driest style of champagne, even dryer then Extra Dry. Do you think that is why calling someone a Brute is an insult?

Doux Me - Rose Mist
Doux Me – Rose Mist

Doux Me – Rose Mist: The magazine tells me that Doux Me is a “unicorn” in the industry because it is a company that makes products that are organic and work. I would say the “unicorn” part really only applies in that I would only spend $35 on fancy rose water spray in a fantasy world. A world where I have money for such things and would not cry in my car clutching it like a baby while wondering what had become of my most basic reasoning skills.

I want to take this up to the pool and spray my neighbors in the face screaming “Love Bouquet!!! We are now ALL divine!!!”

Sothys - Soins Soleil Cellu-Guard
Sothys – Soins Soleil Cellu-Guard

Sothys – Soins Soleil Cellu-Guard: I am sort of in awe that there is another lotion in this box. Lotion Box Quartlerly Oui Please seems to want to tell me something  without outright telling me it. Why be coy? Yes, my skin needs more moisture. I get that. Why do we play these games mon ami?

I am a little sad that I did not get the SPF version of the product but I have a ton of nice SPF’s so I can’t get too wrapped up in it. I know Pnut would be let down. Though I think she likes natural products and this one has all sorts of weird long ingredients that I am certain are for people who read at a higher grade level then yours truly…

Where is my after rain lotion??????

Kingies - Life is Beautiful T - Shirt
Kingies – Life is Beautiful T – Shirt

Kingies – Life is Beautiful T – Shirt: I giggles when I saw the name of this company because it makes me think that they combined “Kegel” and “Dingles” to make their name. Yes, it has been a long, long day!

This shirt is getting mixed reviews online. A lot of people are balking at the cost of a $40 T-shirt but I have seen worse shirts being sold for more. I also remember when I studied abroad in Europe how insanely expensive clothing was!

While the shirt is not my style it is a nice shirt. Very thick cotton and ya know, someone is going to like it. Plus, I would be an all out liar if I didn’t fess up to wearing shirts that I don’t like all the time. I wear company shirts which are pretty awful while sitting around with my cat and all her fur. Plus I can probably swap this item for something on MSA should someone want it.

When I signed up Oui Please had an area that asked me my shirt size. I am an American small, and so knowing what I know about sizing decided to list Medium as my size. The shirt fits like a smaller medium should. There is good give and hang and it should be perfect for a small once washed. It was a little more snug around ye olde mammeries so I wouldn’t be able to stuff say, my phone and car keys in my bra. But I couldn’t do that anyway!

I checked to see if this shirt was made of lotion and to my surprise it was not!

La Fare 1789 - Lavender Flower Jar
La Fare 1789 – Lavender Flower Jar

La Fare 1789 - Lavender Flower Jar (closer view)
La Fare 1789 – Lavender Flower Jar (closer view)

La Fare 1789 – Lavender Flower Jar: This brand was in the last box and I actually liked the items I kept. I send Sub Bella the foot cream I got so all those rumors you hear about her having “succulent feet” are 100% fact! Though we do request that if anyone asks you about it while huffing a stiletto you might want to just say you are “not sure.” It is safest for all of us this way…

This is packaged so pretty and and the flowers look nice. You can do all sorts of things with them like throw them angrily at your panties or make nice and use them in a bath. I am not here to judge… well you anyway.

I was looking on different forums and the price that Oui Please lists seems to be inflated. I honestly don’t really care because this is such a nice little fairing for someone who enjoys quality packaging and lavender. One person in the comments of MSA said that they could get like “four kilos of straight bomb uncut lavender flower for pennies on the dollar” (OK they didn’t say that they just said that they bought lavender flowers in bulk for much cheaper). I argue that the packaging makes this worth more than the raw ingredients. This really is a nice gift to send Sub Bella!

I will be sure to include something creepy in a note with this… perhaps it will include my hope that you will “include this in a bath”

Betchy Sketch - Coasters
Betchy Sketch – Coasters

Betchy Sketch – Coasters: I think we can all agree that July 2015 was the time of “Coastergate.” Obviously the Coaster Conglomerate has been seeking favor with the Goat Syndicate in a bit to get a piece of the sweet sub box pie. If you are a newer reader I swear that it is as crazy as it sounds and I will write a post in a “Tinfoil Hat” series where we make up stories as to why things like this seem to happen in the same months. It is just outright odd.

Anyway, I think my mom told Oui Please about that one time I was dropped on the head as a child and so they felt they could say these coasters were $20. They are literally paper coasters. Like I could print these.

The art on it is what I would call “Beachy and Branded.” They have Oui Please on each one which for most would lower the value. Sigh…

I haven’t seen CiCi comment on here for awhile but she is the keep it positive type and I like her spirit. I did see that ladies on MSA were using them for crafting things like cards. That is a nice thought…

If these are worth $20 to anyone, then I have some Subscriptionista Coasters they should take a look at!

Lulu en Provence - Ecru Clutch
Lulu en Provence – Ecru Clutch

Sophia checks it out!
Sophia checks it out!

Lulu en Provence – Ecru Clutch: I thought “Reveuse” might mean to Reuse, but it actually means “Dreamer.” The company that makes this donates to children’s charities with a portion of the profits. I am not sure how much of the profits or which charities. I also can’t really call this a “clutch.” It is more of a make up bag or something like that. It didn’t scream Rivera to me, but I can put it to use.

The material seems to be very thick and durable so it will likely survive even the most wild of dreams!

Confiserie Stanislas - Nougat Bar (Creme Brulee)
Confiserie Stanislas – Nougat Bar (Creme Brulee)

Confiserie Stanislas - Nougat Bar (Creme Brulee) Side View
Confiserie Stanislas – Nougat Bar (Creme Brulee) Side View

Confiserie Stanislas – Nougat Bar (Creme Brulee): This really did taste like a nice little creme brulee! It is heavy and substantial. You are unlikely to eat this whole thing in one swoop unless you just got called “Ma’am” for the first time. The magazine told me that these will pair perfectly with afternoon tea which makes me pretty sure they will also pair with $3 wine and blogging!

How bad is it that after tasting it I don’t see the $20 listed cost as too crazy?

Verdict: Oui Please is a subscription that like a flaky croissant has layer upon layer of nuance and intrigue. I recieved a box that was worth the price to me based on how I personally value the contents. I don’t want to get into how they listed values because other bloggers do a better job of it, and I just don’t think think of things that way naturally. I look at a box and decide if to me it personally was worth what I paid and this one was. I have not been burned by any customer service issues lately and even if it was not perfect it made me and Camilla happy.

Your box actually sounds pretty nice, specially for the annual subscription price.

But I am totally jealous of PA Anna and her luscious feet.

      July 30, 2015 at 5:15 am

From what I understand, she has a following that keeps tabs on her succulent luscious feet. It would be weird, but she has had a following due to her supple wrists for a few years. For her these things are just par for the course!

Yeah the box wasn’t so bad. Just full of lotions. I actually use them so it isn’t bad for me but I can see those who are really into the whole thing to be sad face.

You should totally send PA Anna that box and she can put all the naughty goodies from sub boxes in there … Yes please indeed!
I love the box but I would do something snarky if I got one. Like put it somewhere where someone might snoop and leave something totally not naughty … Hmmmm … Maybe chocolate … I guess that could be naughty on a mommy part my wee ones do not bother with my nice containers for the most part.

I had to read this before going to bed. I love, love, love it. I’ll comment more later today. I spoke french to a person at a grocery store who came back from France the other day. It was yesterday or today in your world 🙂

It really made me laugh. Daisy s totally disgusted with me for staying up and reading it. My cats are happy the doorman is up. Zelda even had the nerve to take my chair when I let in another cat.

Subscriptionista – You have a talent with words. I hope to see more reviews now that you are back at your home based.

I’m heading to bed because today is already here. I have to get up way too soon and drive teenagers to and from early morning cross-country practice. Then it’s meetings and catching up on paperwork 🙁

    I’ll write more later 🙂

Awww you are the best! I am so glad we can share a blog together because it just isn’t awesome without you!

I hope I can get more writing done! I sort of need to get over some cat envy I have, because you are so rich in kitty it is insane! I want them all!!!

Ok, go to sleep and tomorrow is a new day of more toil. Who knows maybe we will get some more box drama and be able to get the drama without any real pain!

Thanks Kelly! I am going to crack open one of the lotions today I think because I’m a bad bad product user. I’m going to send the natural hand cream and the like over to sub Bella because I need her to be nice and healthy!

It is just so hard to keep them succulent when you have to walk over the mailbox and back to get boxes ammiright?

          • August 1, 2015 at 2:07 am

My mailman brings them to my door. I work hard on my succulent luscious feet and supple wrists. I can’t have subscription boxes ruining that. I can always use a Oui, Please box to hide my naughties 🙂 Yes to everything except for creepy notes!

  5. July 30, 2015 at 6:27 pm

Wow! I almost got the same box as you this month! My tanning lotion has the SPF in it and my ‘clutch’ is in aqua (well a blueish aqua…), which is really pretty. Graine de Pastel is a great brand find for me, they use no phenoxylethanol so I can use their stuff 🙂 The only thing I can’t use in the box is Pier Auge – Body Balm. I need to size up my clothes as that shirt is really small.

I really love the bracelet, and I like it best of all the jewelry out this month so am happy! After my box fiasco last month, which they did make up to me, this was a great box. Though we are going to have enough cream to last well past the next box (without needing cream from any other box or the stash I have….)

So far we have seen runs on blue clutches, goat products, scarfs, brow products, now coasters… Coasters! of all things. Makes me wonder what next month will bring???? Who will be after the power next month?

Great review, was waiting to see what you got. Love your sense of humor.

Aww my tail is wagging! Thank you!

I am so glad this box worked out better for you. I feel like they will have a lot less problems by keeping boxes about the same. I could not agree more about the bracelet because I love it!

I am also glad you can use most of the products! I’m so easy product wise that I always take it for granted.

Yeah I’m pretty sure there will be some new trend in August…

OMGoodness!! I was mentioned on my favorite blog!! I stood outside for half an hour offering autographs, but all I got were a few weird stares. Thank you for the shout-out &, most importantly, for keeping things fun. I totally respect people’s opinions, but something about anonymous threads seems to REALLY bring out the crazy. And yes, crazy can be fun & drama filled, but when it come to subscription boxes can’t we all just get along? Thanks for your joie de vivre, humor & just overall awesomeness 🙂

      July 30, 2015 at 10:59 pm

You are with us! I wondered if we got too weird but I see that at not be possible! I’m sure people wanted to get your autograph but we’re too intimidated to approach you. “Wow she looks JUST like how she looks on the blog” they all whispered thinking back to the time they had to wait on some other star and found out how short they were.

I always think of you when I try to keep it light. I’m all about the drama and snark but it’s nice to have you guys help me be less of a grump!

Yay! I’m glad you’re still reading!!!

I wish I knew how to quit you! That is what I tell my Sub Box Addiction every week, but I love your blog too much to stop reading 🙂 I appreciate how you are expanding your reviews to food now! And I hope your “delicate” white paw is healing ok, hopefully all the lotion in this box will help with the healing. This post has inspired me to look into creating a line of lotion shirts. I mean if Kleenex can make lotion tissues – lotion clothing seems the next logical step. Unless you think there might be a Lotion Conglomerate that would object, is it just me – or does lotion seem to appear in subscription boxes a little too regularly?

        • Subscriptionista
          August 1, 2015 at 3:42 am

I know what you mean about quitting the whole sub thing! I am still having fun, and it helps me with the blog but phew!

I think you COULD do a lotion shirt. I am not sure what gang you would have to join. I think the best is the Goat Syndicate because they have their hooves in EVERYTHING. You could make shirts or socks made from free sourced cat hair! That would be sure to get some comments!

Also thanks for not minding my ugly food pics! A girl has got to eat, I always say.

This is quickly becoming my favorite box blog! I love reading both of your reviews – they are a great mix of humor and honesty.

I think this looks like a nice box. It isn’t for me because I’m the weirdo who doesn’t like lavender and the Oui Please box folk seem to love it. I think that not having the price breakdown is better; I do what you do and ask myself if I would spend the money on the products not if each one is worth the break down amount. Sub boxes should be fun!

I am a bit jealous of all of the lotion though. I like in the desert and need all that I can get.

P.S. I tried the Bella shade from the last Birchbox and was told I looked liked a clown with consumption. I assume that was not a compliment. This super pale auburn haired girl cannot rock the bright pink lips.

Cecilia! Thank you so much for the kind comment! We totally love to hear how we are doing. I want to take your comment and show my mom. I will say “and you thought I wouldn’t be somebody!” (just kidding she is cool)

I feel like my skin is a desert. I live in SD and I am always slathering on lotion.

HAHAHA about the Bella shade. I too could not pull it off. I have very light skin and bleachhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh blonde hair. I laughed so hard at “clown with Consumption” I wish I thought of that!

The cat tag on the bracelet is cute. Camila needs to be in more reviews. There’s a lot of lotion in the box. Loved the line about the shirt not being made out of lotion. I keep reading Betchy Sketch wrong. I can’t get over it is made out of paper. It’s the month for coasters.

I love reading the review! I will be rereading it when I need a lift in spirits. Yes to everything, but no creepy note is needed 🙂

Your blog is a new discovery for me and you are HILARIOUS! Now I have to go through and read a bunch of your posts/reviews instead of getting my work done. If I get fired and can’t afford my box addiction anymore, I’m blaming you and you will have to send me some lotion.

Now, it has been said that “Man cannot live on lotion alone.” However if you lose your job I will provide you with lotion so that your skin will look supple for all your interviews. As you can tell, I care about things that matter…

I’ve always wondered about the people that don’t get replies from Oui Please as well. They’ve always responded to my emails. I got a lame Mother’s day box, and when I emailed them about it, they sent me a bracelet, a soap, and the coveted Maison clutch. They’ve earned my business, so I plan to sign up for the next box.

    • Subscriptionista
      August 4, 2015 at 10:19 am

Wow! People go simply insane over the clutch!

I definitely don’t want to disregard anyone’s experience with the company. I just personally, like you, haven’t had issues with communication.

I’ve been happy with my boxes overall and the longer I get sub boxes the more I find out about what value really is to me personally. I take issue with the coasters being given such a high RV but overall I don’t care So much because the box was overall good!
