Birchbox Men Review – August 2015

Disclosure: This post has referral links.  This box is paid for by me.

Birchbox Men is the male version of the Birchbox except the men get cool stuff for $10.00 more. Usually the female counterpart or mom fills out the survey for the men. The men in turn receive a box of 4-5 samples of grooming, beauty, and  lifestyle items. It’s a good thing that we care about our men because some men are content to use the same products over and over. My husband wants nothing to do with this subscription box. My teenage son loves it for the lifestyle items. Birchbox does take my son’s age into consideration when sending items.

Subscription: Birchbox Men

Cost: $20.00/monthly, 195/yearly

What to Expect: 4-5 samples of grooming, beauty, and lifestyle items. The same account can subscribe to both men and women Birchboxes allowing for faster accumulation of points.

First look
First look

The Birchbox men’s box is a drawer. My son doesn’t care.

I want our pretty boxes to open up like a drawer.

Birchbox Men items. I forgot to incldue the PYS which is the backpack.
Birchbox Men items. I forgot to include the PYS which is the backpack.

Here is the first look. I did not include the virtual reality viewer, the backpack, or the Powerplay item. How many hours were spent before reaching the decision that Powerplay is a better name for men than Birchbox Plus?

Blinded by white, all I could think was, “Must find color.”

Hanz de Fuko
Hanz de Fuko

Hanz de Fuko: Everyone is wishing Subscriptionista is writing this review. Subscriptionista, did you receive this? It is sulfate and paraben free. The natural shampoo has 72 ingredients that contain 16+  plant extracts and 10+ amino acids which helps strengthen hair. Check out the owners hair. My teenage son did not like the scent. He said it smelled like lotion.

I read this wrong when I first saw it. I wasn’t substituting Funko for Fuko either.

Hanz de Fuko
Hanz de Fuko Conditioner

Birchbox included a bonus item that is wasted on a 16 year-old boy. His exact words, “Why would I use conditioner? How do you use something in a packet? This is crazy.” Many beauty subscription addicts will agree with him on foils The founders see their products as a way of being artistic. We decide the best thing to do is to send the packets back to the state it was created in – California.  I do think the owners would approve of my pictures of their products. No boring background for them.

Now your man’s hair can be a a beautiful piece of art.

Ursa Major Fantastic face Wash
Ursa Major Fantastic face Wash

Ursa Major Fantastic Face Wash: The face wash has an amazing scent. Among the wonderful scents included are spearmint, lavender, lime and lemon. It cleanses, clears block pores and doesn’t interfere with the pH balance of the skin. It’s gluten-free, cruelty-free, and vegan. I would swipe it except it contains a high percentage of aloe. My son saw it, smelled it, and said, “Good, I need more cleanser.”  Ursa Major is a Vermont-based company.

I wonder if Ursa Minor feels left out?

Mayron's Junk Stuff
Mayron’s Junk Stuff

Mayron Goods Junk Stuff: “Stuff for Your Junk, Junk for Your Stuff.”  It goes on like a cream and dries like a powder. It can also be use on sun burn and bug bites.

A must have item for the nude beach.

Baxter Hand Cream Pomade
Baxter Hand Cream Pomade

Baxter Hair Cream Pomade: The pomade is a light-weight styling cream designed for medium to thick hair. This item is made in the USA. My son is happy to see this. The Wolverine look is popular with the girls.

Don’t mess with the hair.

Coalatree Nomad Backpack
Coalatree Nomad Backpack

Coalatree Nomad Backpack: My teenager is in it for the Lifestyle items. He has found a few items that he loves and orders from Birchbox, but it is the lifestyle items that keeps him interested in the subscription. He selected the backpack as his PYS and will be given it as a gift. This is why it is still packaged. Click on the link to see the picture. The backpack folds back into a small pocket after use.

Why do the men get the fun PYS?

Virtual Reality Viewer: A Virtual Reality Viewer came with it. He hasn’t put it together yet.

Izola Pocket Knife
Izola Pocket Knife

Izola Pocket Knife: I took lots of pictures in different lightening to show the “Be Brave” inscribed on the knife. I tried.

I
I broke a nail trying to open it.

It has a blade, corkscrew, bottle opener, can opener, and a Philips head.

Where’s the manicure file?

Verdict: My son liked enough items to justify the price. He goes in spurts of wanting me to order for 3-4 months and then stopping for 3-4 months. This will be his last box until November or December.

LOL This review was hilarious. Yes, we did get the Fuko stuff. The founders really like ummm to put a lot of product in their hair… hahahahaha

They need to give women the chance to “power play” as well.

I don’t get Birchbox man anymore. My man (to me he is a bear) just is not the product crazy sort. He likes the little fairings but wouldn’t want me to spend $20 on them. I keep trying to find the perfect box for a guy! I think the food ones win!

That proves my point! My son has his favorites. Do you want the Fuko? The description says it strengthens hair.
