Umba Box brings handmade goods to your door each month form artists all over the world. They are dedicated to buying ethically and promoting a fair wage. Maybe they should speak to all of our bosses? I found out about this box from MSA and decided to go for it, then promptly forgot that I had signed up. It was a pretty cool surprise when it arrived on my doorstep!

There are two options you can choose from. Either the Discover or Delight. The Delight is more expensive and has different goods in it (from $56 to $45 a month depending on your subscription length). The Discover is $30 to $23 a month depending on your subscription length. I need to do some more digging because it is tough to say how the two boxes are different but I think Delight has more handmade home and kitchen goods. I could be wrong on that note. They also have a box that caters to babies (actual babies not adults who act like them).

This month we meet Lisa Leonard

Cat Topper?
Cat Topper? Maybe not… she looks mad

Lisa Leonard – Celebrate Banner: The artist has a compelling story how she turned her creative outlet into a thriving business. On her website she has a ton of cute jewelry pieces, and even a whole section where you can personalize your choice and have a name put on. A lot of it is very delicate and it is hard to imagine the work that must go into it.

When I first pulled this out I did not know what it was for. I have never in my life used a cake topper and honestly I never had even thought about it! This can be used to make houseplants look festive, cheesecake, or even pancakes. Not a great cat topper though. I like the idea of making holidays and also smaller things a time to celebrate!

It is made of pewter which is a fun word to say out loud. Pewter, Pew-Ter, Pewwwwwteeeerrrrrrrrr

Verdict: I am probably not the best person to judge this item because I don’t bake, or usually have occasion to pull out one of these. I think it will make a fine gift if you are like me and don’t jive with the oven. There are other things one can do with this and I had to take a minute to really think about the intention along with other uses that could create positive experiences. I just can’t help but wish I had received one of those awesome accessories! It was spooky that it is my birthday this month so I might actually have a chance to use it on a cake, after I wash it of course…

That’s a powerful statement ” Beauty in Brokenness”, A trend in my area is to put little figurines etc.into flower gardens. My little guy has a figurine in his. I think the proper name is Fairy Gardens. I could see her sign working well in those type of gardens. It’s a big deal out here.

You know, I was really mad when I opened this box, but I love your positive look at it [and the cat topper]. I had a look at the designer’s page, and she does have some really cool stuff! It’s just an item that’s not for me, and because it was the only thing in the box it made for an even bigger let down.

However, talking about the fairy gardens, I saw some really cute miniature metal pieces, like slides and swings, to put in gardens and planters. It was in the Seattle area, so it’s already out on the West Coast =) You’ll just have to bring it to your area and make your neighbors envious, hehe.

I FEEL you Andrea! I did feel like they threw their eggs in a pretty small basket so to speak. After reading everything and getting a feel for what they were saying I appreciated it but I don’t see myself baking a cake…

Dang, I thought I was going to be super on trend but I am behind the times. I will just have to bring it to San Diego (goodness it is probably already here!). Can I just pretend that I knew about it for “forever?” 😉

Thanks for commenting and I really appreciate it your insight on the box.

UNFORTUNATELY THEY HAVE NO CUSTOMER SERVICE OR SUPPORT—SO IF YOU ORDER KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED THAT THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM, OTHERWISE KISS YOUR MONEY GOODBYE!!!

I have dealt with their customer service twice. One time they took forever to get back to me and then another time (to cancel and confirm is be getting sept still) they were very quick.
