Linen Crate Kitchen – September 2015

Disclosure: I received this box at a discount. There are no affiliate/referral links.

Linen Crate is a new home decor box that goes through your house room by room. July was the bathroom, August is Dining Room, and September will be the Kitchen. The original bathroom box was released to mix reviews. Linen Crate responded to feedback and stepped it up with the second wave of bathroom boxes. The quality in the second wave of bathroom boxes is carried forward into subsequent crates.

Subscription: Linen Crate

Cost: $109.00 plus $4.99 shipping

What to expect: Home Decor based on your style profile. A new room is covered every month.  You can choose to subscribe monthly, every other month, or every 3 months. Click here to view items that may come in your crate.

Notes: Your first box will be the bathroom Afterwards, you will receive whatever box that is covered that month. There is a quick style profile that takes a couple minutes to go through. Linen Crate has been responsive to all my emails.

***Linen Crate kindly sent my box early for review. ***

My Linen Crate is Traditional Style. I am not sure of the color palette because it has changed. My color palette says Metallic – silver, rust, and charcoal. That does not sound appealing to me, but maybe it matched the color palette that I picked before that showed an actual color scheme. A secondary color grouping can now be added to your profile. I’ve noticed Linen Crate has evolved as its grown. That’s good news for subscribers because it shows responsiveness.

First Peek
First Peek

I received my box last week. There was a delay in putting up the review because I wanted to take the pictures outside.  Stainless Steel is highly reflective. My dining room table is the back-to-school command center.

Torres & Tagus Axis Stainless Steel Double Wall Bowl

Torres & Tagus Axis Stainless Steel Double Wall Bowl: The bowl is the perfect size for pasta, salads, and big parties. The double wall technology keeps hot items hot and cold items cold. It measures 13″ across and is 3.5″ deep.

Torre & Tagis Discus Stainless SteelC hip + Dip Platter
Torre + Tagus Discus Stainless Steel Chip + Dip Platter

Torre + Tagus Discus Stainless Steel Chip + Platter: I linked to Target to show that the Chip & Dip Platter is from the current line. It’s something that I noticed with Linen Crate. It’s easy to find current items to add on to what you receive in the box. The plates I received in the August  Crate is currently sold at Macy’s along with additional pieces to the pattern.  It’s a good selling point especially if you are starting a new household.

The shallow platter measures 13.5″ across. It’s a nice contemporary piece perfect for entertaining. Unfortunately, I like stainless steel for my Kitchen Aid mixing bowls, not for my table. I was not expecting these items in a traditional box. I strongly dislike the two pieces. I understand that they are elegant pieces, but they are not to my taste.

Now Designs Potholder: I love the design!

Now Design Oven Mitt: It’s a fun kitchen design.

I wasn’t able to find this pattern online. The company offers many designs to bring a bit of cheer into your kitchen.

Apron
Apron

My older son likes the apron. It’s not girly.

Clasp

A ring clasp, not a tie, is used to secure the apron around the neck. I did not thread it correctly, because I was taking a few quick pictures.

There’s a large-size pocket in the front.

The fabric continues into the pocket. My whole family likes the pattern. The unisex apron is a hit with the men!

Acacia Bark-Edge Round Board

Acacia Bark-Edge Round Board: Linen Crate continues to impress me by offering current items. I linked to Bloomingdales.

A closer look at the tag.

The edge is bark. It is possible to pick at the bark and peel it off. I need to keep J away from the cutting board because he will do that.

I ran my fingers down the cutting board. I can feel the grains of the board and how the heart of the wood feels softer. Acacia wood is said to have a sweet scent. I sniffed the board over and only found a slight scent near the bark. It’s not a strong scent like cedarwood.  I love this piece. My husband claimed it, but I may take it back and use it for subscription box pictures.

Verdict: I love the Acacia Board and the Now Design Set. I don’t see how Stainless Steel fits in with a traditional design. The Torre & Tagus are well-made pieces, but lack appeal for me. We will use them or gift them.

Great box! I love the Torre & Tagus, but agree that they’re not traditional… I’d probably classify them as modern or contemporary – not sure what the category choices are for Linen Crate.

I love how all the cats and both kids get involved in helping you with your reviews! Now it’s your husband’s turn… 😉

My husband is shy. I did order a Groupon for Date Crate and have a lighter, fun Fantasy Box that we have not used yet. Maybe we can tag team on a review. I’ll keep it in mind.

The categories for Linen Crate are Modern/Contemporary, Traditional, and Eclectic.

Great review! I think that the pieces are cool and perfect for entertaining! LOL you won’t have worry about them breaking if dropped. The cutting board is so pretty!

My home decor style is uber contemporary. We actually have a number of stainless steel “china” (what’s the word when it isn’t actually china? I have no idea). I adore the stainless pieces you got! And although the cutting board isn’t my style per se, I love it! It is such a cool style for a cutting board!

Good question. I’m trying to picture stainless steel china.

I’m on a quarterly subscription with linen crate, so I missed the dining room and kitchen boxes and will be receiving the bedroom box in October. I’m hoping it works for me, but I’m a little worried; the only thing I’ve seen from any of the reviewed dining room or kitchen boxes is that wooden platter/cutting board. I liked my bathroom box, but they somehow managed to send me the one color from their neutral pallette that I can’t use in any of my bathrooms. I’m locked in at the introductory rate, which is a pretty good deal, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that their tastes and mine will line up. It’s not looking very promising so far, though.

And gah, it’s really bugging me that I just misspelled palette 🙂

      and almost misspelled misspelled.

Are the boxes reviewed the same style as your profile? It seems that the boxes reviewed don’t differ much. Linen Crate now allows a secondary palette to be selected. Maybe updating your choices and emailing them to see what colors will work for you might put you at ease. I found them to be responsive to emails.

I’m not sure what styles any of the review boxes were (except for yours), so I have no idea. I just went to the site to remind myself what my preferences were, and they’ve completely changed the style profile. They used to have different 5-color palettes to choose from in each style category (modern, traditional, eclectic), but now it’s just “warm,” “metallic,” and “calm.” And there’s a note that says you can make a secondary choice, but I’ve yet to figure out how to do that. Oh well, if anything, this will be a decorating adventure. I have a feeling that I’m way too much of a control freak to continue with this box, but it’s fun to try new things.
