SugarBash Review – August 2015

Disclosure: There are no referral links in this post and I bought it with my own money.

SugarBash is a lifestyle box from a company that promises a value of around $60 for $30 (or less if you get a longer subscription) a month. I decided to check this out because I found a coupon and it seemed sort of quirky. It was a risk but I figure it might be interesting to readers since it seems to be a smaller box company and not a lot of the huge review sites are giving it any play at the moment.

Right not it looks as if they are sold out but they may open up more subscriptions soon.

Hot!Hot!Hot!
Hot!Hot!Hot!

The theme was “Hot! Hot! Hot!”

The Body Shop - Smoky Poppy Gel
The Body Shop – Smoky Poppy Gel

The Body Shop – Smoky Poppy Gel: This musky scent is good for getting a good clean where you want to be whisked away to an opium den but without all the seedy stuff! The honey used in the gel is fair trade from Ethiopia and that poppy extract is from Turkey. That is some well traveled shower gel!

They say this scent is “Euphoric” but fresh cooked cookies have cornered the market on that front!

City Color - Lip and Cheek Stain (Cherry Pie)
City Color – Lip and Cheek Stain (Cherry Pie)

City Color – Lip and Cheek Stain (Cherry Pie): I have not cracked this open yet but it is parabin free and could show some promise. I just have enough tints I could look blushed and flushed every day for 70 years!

They say that this tint is “SWEET-HOT” but that isn’t a thing Sugarbash, I like that you TRIED to stay with the theme though but give me a little credit here!

The Rox- Ice Ball Maker
The Rox- Ice Ball Maker

The Rox- Ice Ball Maker: These silicone molds help you fashion globes of ice that will melt slowly and look pretty cool. People use these a lot for whisky. I don’t drink whisky. The info card showed these filled with berries which I thought was a neat idea!

If we were going to get married maybe I will put a ring in one of them to propose! For now though I will let you have some of my Cheetos!

Brookestone & Sugarbash - Power Bank
Brookestone & Sugarbash – Power Bank

Brookestone & Sugarbash – Power Bank: This is pretty useful even with the branding on it. I get things like this from my company and so have no problem pulling out a branded item from time to time. I used to pop into Brookestone to touch all the displays and make a nuisance of myself so it brought back some fun memories. I remember trying to convince my mom a massage chair was practically a necessity because stress is bad for ones health.

I can see myself excitedly pulling this out for someone in need to use, and them saying “What the heck is Sugarbash??” and me replying that they just talked themselves out of some help!

"Dirty" Potato Chips - Mesquite BBQ (nope didn't wait for a picture I ate them right away)
“Dirty” Potato Chips – Mesquite BBQ (nope didn’t wait for a picture I ate them right away)

“Dirty” Potato Chips – Mesquite BBQ: I took these out and at them right away because I was hungry and love BBQ chips. They were really good and I don’t think they  were too hot. They had a sweet quality that paired well with the Diet Coke and my lack of control.

I ate these so fast I didn’t notice they were even called “Dirty!”

West Elm - "Chill" Market Tote Bag
West Elm – “Chill” Market Tote Bag

West Elm – “Chill” Market Tote Bag: It is not a subscription box without a tote bag am I right? This one is super big and can fit all the beer and Franzia my heart desires. I am not huge on it saying “Chill” on it. It feels sort of early 90’s, like inside of it I am carrying a Bart towel that says “Don’t have a cow man!” on it…

My big sister would always annoy my twin sister by telling her to “take a chill pill.” I sort of loved when she said it!

The Spice House - Vulcan's Fire Salt
The Spice House – Vulcan’s Fire Salt

The Spice House – Vulcan’s Fire Salt: I am kinda jazzed that they tucked this in here! I know we are all thinking of another Vulcan when we read this, but they tell me that it is named after the Roman God of Fire named… Yup Vulcan! This looks like it going to be a real treat. It has chilies and lemon flavor which I tend to really love! They say that this is great for a Bloody Mary, and I think I may just try that one out!

Getting spices makes me remember my goal to carry a small folding case with small vials of various spices in. When I am eating something I can exclaim “You know what this needs? Vulcan’s Fire Salt!” then produce a vial of it. I could really up how annoying people find me!

Verdict:  I understand that Sugarbash is a Lifestyle box I am just not sure what Lifestyle they are trying to promote. It has felt like the last two boxes have been a hodgepodge of items that while I will probably find something to do with, just don’t go together. I can see that they tried VERY hard to make this fit the Hot!Hot!Hot! theme, but some of it was a HUGE stretch. On a positive note, I am always surprised at what finds it’s way into this box and have some of the items. I am looking forward to seeing more from this box, though I hope they will find some sort of focus that will make them a little more predictable in terms of items. Or maybe their charm is in the fact that you will NEVER know what you are going to get!

I feel like that is going to happen with me too LOL The first time I will probably be to excited and keep checking up on them. I wonder if there is a way I could freeze booze inside of the balls so it would look all cool… hmm lol

Nothing says “Hot!Hot!Hot!” quite like ice ball molds!
And here’s a Life Pro Tip for you dear readers: “whisky” refers to whisky made in Scotland (a.k.a. Scotch) and “whiskey” refers to whiskey from America like Jack Daniels.

LOL I am glad you caught that because it turns out I just didn’t see how I spelled it and there was no red line underneath it so… Thank you!

The review made me laugh! You need to be writing more reviews especially the Golden Tote review. You can model the clothes too! I have never received a power bank in a sub box. I’m jealous.

I haven’t been to the Body Shop in ages.

I think I really like this actually… Things I can use but might not have already and good variety – 2 bath/beauty, 3 foodish items (snack, spice, ice ball maker…), 2 lifestyle (1 chill tote & 1 tech).

Other than the fact that box has a multiple personalities, is it just maybe lacking a little excitement? Fix that and it will be awesome!

I agree. It could just be me. I just like to have some sort of common thread. It has felt that the items are the most unpredictable of any box I have received. The items aren’t that bad at all, just random. I also dislike the layout of the info card. It does not help to make things look like they made sense.

The card is busy. Maybe a 2-page card with more white space is better. I remember Kloverbox’s logo used to be a clover superimposed over a Buddha. It was too busy for me. I used to spend time wondering what message she was trying to convey in her logo. Now before people think I am even more weirder than I really am, our farm is a small business. I tend to notice things like that as a result.

I think they could fit it on one card, but maybe put less clip art everywhere. It makes it look cheap. I bet the Goat Syndicate tries to communicate using box labels…

Your picture is off on the homepage. I’ll try to remember to look at it tomorrow if I have time. I have a hot date with the hubby at the local orchard. I am also going to finally see Pixels with my older son.

The local orchard is serving hard cider with unusual flavors. We may give it a try.
