Glossybox Subscription Review – October 2015

Glossybox is a beauty subscription box that runs $21 a month or less if you decide you want to go in for a longer subscription. The box includes higher end brands as well as ones you can peep at Target. Usually most items are full size. I would admit that Glossybox is one of my favorite beauty subscriptions because they tend to send out some interesting skincare items.

I also have found that their customer service has been really good in my personal dealings with them. It might take a few days for them to get back to me but they have always resolved issues I have had. Like when I forgot to use a coupon code, or the time I thought I signed up but it did not go through.

The actual boxes they pack the items in are really nice. I find it so tough to throw them out, and this is not just because I am a sad hoarder who holds on to crap I really shouldn’t. If you like packaging they really bring it!

Cost: $21 a month and cheaper for longer subscription options.

Check out the box this month! Isn’t it prettttty? This was specially made for Glossybox and it makes me wish they would do special boxes more because they usually are pretty nice. This one goes above and beyond in the cute factor.

The boxes theme is Viva la France. Which served to remind me that I STILL don’t have my stupid Oui Please box and for someone who spend hundreds of dollars on a subscription I am surprisingly chill about not seeing it arrive on time…

Jamie Le Reardin is the artist and I am annoyed with Glossybox for not doing a special little insert or at least a blurb about her in the box itself.  Not only is JLR super talented she is also super cute. Ahhh to be young and with talent I muse while applying youth cream with a spatula. Anyway, she is from Canada and lives in California. If I ever bump into her I will ask her to sign the box, or a napkin, maybe both! Her work is sort of Disney on a coffee date with Tim Burton and leads you to believe a dinner invite just might follow. She has also worked with a ton of high highfalutin’ brands. Check out her art (she has a blog and Instagram) my favorite work is here.

Lollipops Make Up Paris - Nail Lacquer (Voyage A Paris)
Lollipops Make Up Paris – Nail Lacquer (Voyage A Paris)

Lollipops Make Up Paris – Nail Lacquer (Voyage A Paris): I remember when I first started looking into subscription boxes and what would ultimately become an obsession. I first started where we all did at MSA and I would voraciously read all the comments to understand the sub culture I now am neck deep in. I remember that many subscription boxes would send out nail polish colors that were perfect for holidays that had already past. This is just in time because nothing says Holiday like red nails!

Also nothing says Holiday like closet wine. It sounds just like what it is, a closet you keep your wine in when visiting family and escape to for wee nips when they won’t be wise to it. Merry Holiday!

De Bruyere Paris - Red Lipgloss
De Bruyere Paris – Red Lipgloss

De Bruyere Paris – Red Lipgloss: I am a huge fan of this. It isn’t as pigmented as they would have you believe but the red looks good with my skin tone which is a tall order. I would say the pigment is just right, sheer enough that if it doesn’t look good on you can get it off without too much crying. I also like that it doesn’t dry out my lips. I find these types of glosses usually dry my lips like no other! The pigmentation or lack there of might turn some die hard red lip fans off but it can be layered. I like that it is matte and honestly I am thrilled it works for me. Yay it will match with my holiday red nails!

Glossybox says this gloss will transport you “to the famed Moulin Rouge” and I pretty much feel like doing the can-can when wearing it so I agree!

PHYTO Paris - Protectant Spray (with kitty ear)
PHYTO Paris – Protectant Spray (with kitty ear)

PHYTO Paris – Protectant  Spray: I can always use more spray to protect my straw like head of damaged hair. I almost catch myself sort of praying each time I use a hot tool on my hair that it won’t be the time my hair finally all breaks off. What a charmed life!

The ingredients include fancy Yun-Zhi which they tell me is used in Chinese medicine to prolong human lifespans. Fancy!

The info card actually asks “Did you know that Yun-zhi essence has been a staple part of Chinese medicine for centuries?” No Glossybox, I skipped that day of ancient Chinese medicine class and I have regretted it ever since…

Sabe Masson – Le Soft Perfume (La Reine Solei): “The Sun Queen” this scent is like a musky vanilla and I am shocked that I really love it! I also am into solid perfumes for no reason other then it being a little bit more fun to put on. It has a soft pink color that should blend in well with my dry skin. The artwork on it is super cute!

Fun fact, this perfume was made by Isabelle “Sabe” Masson, the wife of Dominique Mandonnaud… who is he? Oh ya know, just the founder of Sephora…

I love the English translations of this scent! One says it is “sulphurous, solar and frantic.” Wow…

Vichy - Idealia Skin Sleep
Vichy – Idealia Skin Sleep

Vichy – Idealia Skin Sleep: As you all might know by now I love products that say they will do stuff for me as I sleep. I think I sleep better imagining the product toiling to help me as I snore and steal covers. This has a gel like texture and for me sinks right into my tired face. I will let you all know if I ever can sleep my way to younger and better skin!

Weirdly they say that this is “a shot of espresso for your skin,” which does not make for a very believable sleep product!

Verdict: I loved this months Glossybox and am so glad I got it! It had French products that worked for me and were useful. I saw that there were different versions of this box (MSA got a different one) and they all seemed really good. I am happy with the one I got because the red gloss worked for my skin which is really rare and the perfume I received was right up my alley!

I did read some people were upset they did not get the same box that Liz did but I honestly don’t understand it. The solid perfume option is actually a full size product and look/smells so good. Box envy is tough to shake.

Jamie Lee Reardin’s art so much reminds me of Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove. What a good costume she would be!

I love the idea of closet wine! Except, I have this weird love of closets [the opposite of claustrophobia] where I just like being inside them, so I would probably bring in a pillow and a blanket as I nip off into closet wineland.

Is that a goat on the ye olde softe perfume???

Anyway… I’m leaving with box envy… and adding this on my Gotta Have It When I Haven’t Just Bought Four New Boxes list.

Julie, I love your doughnut picture =D Now I want an apple fritter. Also, you play Carcassonne! Sorry, I was creeping, but, McBoyfriend and I have game dates at least once a month. There are some board game shops around where I live where you can have food and beer while you play games!

I love the box design and the variations that you received.I checked out the artist’s website last night on my phone. I love how helpful Sophia is in the pictures. Her paw on the ribbon is perfect. She’s giving Zelda a run for her money!

Perfumegate – I don’t like lily of the valley scents so I think your perfume is much better.

Hahha perfume gate could have been avoided if people read and saw that the other perfumes were not in full size while this one was and while the other one is fancy this one has some cute stuff going on.

I’m glad we do our best to keep it positive on the site. It really is all about attitude sometimes. For instance the MSA/Kloverbox summer box got a lot of bad feedback from comments but I use the crap out of the box and the items have been super useful!

I hope you do too. If you get one that is mroe fruity I can trade you. I only barely smudged this one because the cat was trying to eat it. So it is not totally new and may or may not have cat on it. She was CRAZY for it.

I was trying to be like you and have include better pics. It was hard though because the cat REALLY wanted in the box, and I was hoping to get her interested after. lol
