Ipsy Review – September 2015

Ipsy is a subscription that costs $10 a month and sends out four or five deluxe sample size beauty items. Because of the price point it invites comparisons with Birchbox. Ipsy is more make up based, and has a “waitlist.” You can skip this wait if you pimp out your social media. I just emailed and asked to be put on the list and it was done very quickly.

I really dig the bag!

Vasanti - Face Brighten Exfoliator
Vasanti – Face Brighten Exfoliator

Vasanti – Face Brighten Exfoliator: I have tried this product before and I liked it. It really does work well to brighten and exfoliate. The sample looks simply huge but it is not filled all the way which bums me out. Like come on, fill the thing up or get a smaller bottle.

How much brightening power would it take to make me look super intelligent?

Ipsy & NYX - Eyeshadow Trio
Ipsy & NYX – Eyeshadow Trio

Ipsy & NYX – Eyeshadow Trio: I am surprised with the overall quality of this trio because usually collaborations tend to bring out the weakness of each brand. The eye shadow is soft and highly wearable. Is it the best quality? No. But NYX is known for having good quality for the price which is what we get here. The trio also is very big. I hate when I get super small samples because it’s almost not even worth the effort.

Oddly I can’t find the names of the colors, I will make up my own from left to right: Kitten Latte, IPA, and Panda Paw.

Temptu - Champagne Shimmer Highlighter
Temptu – Champagne Shimmer Highlighter

Temptu – Champagne Shimmer Highlighter: When this airbrush system hit the market I was so taken with it! I could not and still will not spend that kind of money to spray paint my face perfect when I can’t even seem to even apply mascara everyday, but the idea of just sort of seamlessly and easily spraying my face to look perfect always was sort of a dream. Anyway, this highlighter works without the device and has a lot of different uses. One can use it as a highlighter or even add it to lotion to bring some shimmer into their lives!

Do not add to Champagne!

Liptini - Lipstick (Starlet Cocktail)

Liptini – Lipstick (Starlet Cocktail): Not 100% sold on this color but I have what I call bird lips that are as thin as they are chapped. I actually have grown to love getting lip products in my beauty bags because sometimes there are winners (Lipstick Bar comes to mind) that I wouldn’t have discovered otherwise. I do feel bad when I have to throw out the lip colors that don’t work for me, but they will forever be alive here with you while you read!

I want a signature lip color that old fashioned Starlets would have during WW2. However, having a signature lip color has gotten a lot of Femme Fatales caught by the law so maybe that isn’t a good idea.

“Subscriptionista, I know it was YOU who drank the OJ straight from the bottle your signature lip color was found!” Whoops!

Pixi by Petra - Mini Brow Trio
Pixi by Petra – Mini Brow Trio

Pixi by Petra – Mini Brow Trio: Ahhhh just what I needed more eyebrow stuff. This sample is small but it does provide enough for one to try to product out. The colors are actually pretty good in that they can be used and layered to cover many colors. I may just try to use it as eye shadow…

I joked before that I could start an eyebrow bar and I am starting to really think of it as a way to get rid of the pounds of eyebrow products I have been getting. It is as if these companies KNOW that I have awful eyebrows and want to help me help myself.

Hello, I am Subscriptionista, and I have terrible brows!

Verdict: The value is always good in my opinion. For $10 I got a lot of different products to try out and have some fun with. I can walk out of Target a lot poorer with a lot less. I need to fill out more reviews so that I get less brow products because I have noticed that they do tend to listen to my reviews. I also liked this months make up bag so that was a super win!

I love that you named the trio eyeshadow! I received the Temptu in my Birchbox before and made a mess of myself trying to use it.
