Play! by Sephora Subscription Box Review – October 2015

Play! By Sephora has brought a lot of excitement to the subscription box world.  Sephora currently is marketing Play! in limited areas with a nationwide release in 2016. Sephora’s point of view is that it allows them to work through the kinks of entering the wild west of the subscription box world. Meanwhile, potential subscribers everywhere are screaming, “We want to Play!”  Heat7918 kindly share photos and commentary of the October Play! Box.

Subscription: Play! By Sephora

Price: $10.00 with free shipping.

What to Expect: Per Sephora’s FAQ A monthly box of deluxe samples, along with an exclusive PLAY! BOOK — packed with helpful advice — and a PLAY! The six product samples in your PLAY! by SEPHORA box are from the same prestige brands we carry in store and online, and they are sized to use multiple times.

Notes: Sephora is test marketing Play! in limited areas. Play! by Sephora will be available nationwide in the USA in 2016.

October is the 2nd month – same box/package both months – love the lipsticks pattern on the lid! The boxes themselves aren’t quite GlossyBox level – more Birchbox but a little bigger (square). I’m loving the 15+ page booklet (it’s in the first photo and says “Secrets to Dewey Skin”) that gives details on each product including tips, fun facts, hacks… it’s really nice.
Great skincare products!
Great skincare products!
The 1st box (Sept) was mainly make-up and hair but October is all about skincare – my favorite! (Plus a perfume sample for a total of 7 items in the box.) I think I’ve tried the  Sephora Pearl Masque before – I ordered a variety pack on sale and pretty sure I liked this one… but I love masks in general and have never had a problem with one! I also think I got the Atelier Cologne sample from Birchbox. Otherwise, the other 5 products are new to  me and I love how it includes most of the steps in a basic skincare routine – I’ve been wishing a box would do that for a long time!

Belief The True Cream – Aqua Bomb (described as a “Watery Cream”)

That box is crazy good. I hate living in podunk. I’ll be in a retirement village by the time they expand to my area.

So nice that you live in one of the tester areas! maybe they’ll offer 2 different types of boxes when they launch? i’d ditch birchbox for a skincare only box!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing Heat7918! I think this is a great collection of items. I went to Sephora yesterday to get a sheet mask and I think the one they included here was $6 or $7, so this is a great deal!

I would totally be down for an all skin-care box at this price point. I have enough eyeshadows, liners, blush and lip products to last until the end of my days.

Thanks for posting this – I’ve been waiting for this box to roll out to SoCal! Love seeing what you got and think it looks great. I’m excited to get mine whenever they expand!

Yes, we are a classy, boxed-wine drinkin’, Cheetos-eating, cat-lovin’ group!

Seriously, some of those others need to calm down & put the pitchforks away.

I’m trying to not be upset but Sephora is really giving me the run around with this box. September, I moved and needed to change my address. It wasn’t done, so no box. October needed a new credit card, called to update, promised it was done and I would get October. It wasn’t done so I don’t get October and I was really looking forward to it. I just feel like I’m being blown off and told I’m not important at all, why should I bother giving Sephora my money?
