Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review + Coupon – October 2015

Disclosure: There are no affiliate/referral links in this post. I purchased the box at a discount.

Escape Monthly was one of my very first subscription boxes back in May 2014. I purchased that box using a voucher. The September 2014 box was my last box because I became unhappy with my subscription. I saw reviews for Escape Monthly again. I received an email on October 20th for 50% off the Greece box and 20% off the California Box. I decided to resubscribe.

Subscription: Escape Monthly

Cost: $49.99/monthly for the regular-sized Escape Monthly. There are 20% coupons floating around. I will have the latest special listed in the coupon section. $24.95/monthly for the Escape Mini, $69.95/monthly for Escape Luxe. I do not think that the 20% off coupons work on the mini or luxe options.

What to Expect: Escape Monthly -A destination themed box filled with luxury products and a travel guide. Escape Mini:  4-5 luxury products and a travel brochure. Escape Luxe: high-value luxury products.

Coupon: Escape Monthly is offering a special where you receive the Greece box for free and 20% off the November Arizona box. Click here to take advantage of the savings.

California
California

It’s my second California box from Escape Monthly. Take a peek at Hello Subscription’s review of the May 2014 California Box. I feel like I have come full circle in the subscription box world. Beauty DNA and Escape Monthly were my very first subscription boxes.

I never thought I would be blogging when I received my first Escape Monthly Box.

Frommer's Easy Guide to San Francisco
Frommer’s Easy Guide to San Francisco

Frommer’s Easy Guide to San Francisco 2015: The regular Escape Monthly Box comes with a travel guide. The book is up to date and includes a map.

I want to travel to the west coast and meet up with our west coast bloggers!

California Mango Cleansing Gel and Body Lotion
California Mango Cleansing Gel and Body Lotion

California Mango Mango Cleansing Gel:  The cleansing gel has a light citrus smell. It helps remove impurities and excess oils from the skin.  The California Mango Mango Hand + Body Lotion has a light citrus scent. The lotion absorbs easily into the skin.

I googled an image of a mango and realized I had it confused with an avocado. I don’t think I ever saw a mango in person.

Sisal Soap Pouch
Sisal Soap Pouch

Sisal Soap Pouch: I could not find anything on the pouch to identify the brand or where it was made. Throw your soap slivers in there and lather up!

There are no such thing as soap slivers when you have bath monster.

Oil
Oil

Napa Organics Lavender Hydrosol Organic & Biodynamic Calming Face Mist: I linked to the gift set that contains the lavender hydrosol. Currently, the full-size Napa Organics Rose Geranium and Lavender Hydrosol is in stock. Napa Organics source lavender from local growers.  I will spray it on my face when it feels agitated. I may also use it as a body spray before heading to bed. The spray has a pleasant lavender scent.

I need a batch to make it through the holiday season!

Napa Organics
Napa Organics California Plum Oil

Napa Organics California Plum Oil: Plum oil is produced only in Northern California and France. The plum oil is the type of product that I like to see in Escape Monthly. It is beneficial for acne, sensitive, or mature skin. The oil can be used as a moisturizer, cleanser or makeup remover. It has a slight deep plum scent that I can smell more on my finger when applying the oil than on my face.

Bottle
Bottle

I noticed that the lid was slightly off-centered. I decided to took a closer look at it.

Cork screw
Cork screw

It’s the shape of the bottle. This bottle is the first bottle that I have seen with that type of opening.

The things that I notice when writing for the blog!

Leather Travel Wallet

Leather Travel Wallet: I was not pleased to see this in the Escape Monthly box. It was included because California is the gateway to travel. I don’t feel this fits in with what Escape Monthly is trying to accomplish with its boxes.

Torn Ranch Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar
Torn Ranch Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar
Yummy chocolate!
Yummy chocolate!

Torn Ranch Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar: I took the Escape Monthly Greece September Box  and the October box pictures back to back on Sunday. The family was ready to try the chocolate as soon as I was done with the pictures. Everyone agreed it tasted delicious.  It’s more of a chocolate bar than a fudge/cake-like consistency.  We all agreed it had a delicious truffle taste.

I would much rather had two chocolate truffle bars than a truffle bar and a wallet.

Verdict: I received the Escape Monthly Greece September Box and the Escape Monthly California October Box together in the mail because of the special. I ordered the special mainly because my sister loved the Greece box. I was disappointed to find that the evil eye bobble in the September box and the loofah in the October box were missing. My sister had the same issue with the September box too.

I was also disappointed that the sisal soap pouch and wallet were included in the California October box. There are no markings whatsoever on the sisal soap pouch to denote that it was made in California. The wallet is made in China. I went back through 2014 reviews to see if Escape Monthly included items not related to the destination in the past. I was fairly certain that did not happen and checked old reviews of boxes I received to verified that.

I decided I would either keep or cancel my subscription depending on what arrives in the November box. I received it yesterday. You’ll have to read the November review to find out what happens!

What do you think of the Escape Monthly October 2015 box? Do you think I am going to keep or cancel the subscription? Share below and anything else on your mind!

You have never seen a mango whaaaaa? Definitely a nom.

I think this subscription has good value provided it comes with a code. You should make a comment though for the missing items. It is a hassle but they need to make it right. I am predicting that you will cancel your sub especially if you get another missing item.

I’ve never bought a mango but I kind of know what they look like… and I’ve had mango flavored things plus probably I’ve eaten a little bit somewhere (restaurant or at a party?), but I know avocados! Both are yummy noms – in different ways.

I have a sisal soap pouch on my Amazon shopping list – I need it for my Sudsy soap slivers! (No bath monsters here.)

The beauty/pamper products all seem very nice, but I don’t need anymore of those right now. I do need that chocolate truffle bar though!

Great review. Missing items… not so great.

I might be the only person in the world that does not like mango (taste, scent, everything).

Arizona has so much potential with all of its spas and southwestern jewerly and home decor artisans, but I don’t have high hopes for the box. I predict you cancel.

Mmm mangos are my favorite fruit! Especially the little yellow ones that appear in the summer. The first time I tried a mango I think I was home from college–my mom bought one, and my sister and I stood around the kitchen table as she tried to hack it open. I just remember it being very firm and tasting like a pine tree. After moving to Seattle I realized it wasn’t ripe, and that when they’re ripe they’re totally worth the cutting open hassle! Do your grocery stores carry them? My parents live in the middle of the US, so it was not surprising we’d never had one. Now I see them year round at stores.

Manila mangos are the BEST!!! You want to cut them when a bit wrinkly and soft feeling to the touch. Delish!!!!

I think you will cancel. With all California has to offer for sub boxes, you get a swap meet wallet? no bueno
Your review is muy bueno however.
