BOOM!Box by Espionage Cosmetics Box Review – December 2015

Disclosure: This box was purchased by me. There is a refer-three-get-one-free link to support your local blogger.

Subscription: EC BOOM!Box

Cost: $30/month + tax and ships bimonthly [paying for multiple boxes reduces cost up to $5 for a year]. With tax and shipping mine came out to $39.70.

What to Expect: “Nerd Manicures, Makeup & MOAR! Delivered to You Bi-Monthly!”

While browsing the internets one night, looking for book page nail wraps [I can be a voracious reader], I came across Espionage Cosmetics. I bought several wraps, then discovered they were located not too far from me and they were having a par-tay! I went down and checked out their little shop, bought some more stuff, and then when I found out they had a sub box coming out I knew I had to get it.

They beta tested and tweaked this box for over a year [which is very important to find out your audience and what they are clamoring for]. So, without further eloquent circumlocution, I hereby present to you my newest addition to Fave Box Evar list:

I’m gonna sing the Boom Song now… Boomy boomy boom! Hehe, I’ll probably have that in my head every time I get this box, thanks Gir =)

Nicely laid out card describing the items and where they came from. I love detailed cards like this!!!

I got a couple of business cards. Embossed even.

Is the card in bone with Sicilian Braille lettering?? or is it eggshell with Romalian type? [quote from one of my favorite parts in American Pyscho that makes me snicker anytime someone gives me a business card]

Wyvern Scales Nail Wraps: $10

I love love love these! Right after turning in my final project I put these on and six days later they still look great! They hold up so much better than nailpolish [my ring finger polish is gone girl]. My only complaint is that other brands I’ve purchased have included a little tool to help push the wrap down, and I wish these had that as well.

Bam! Nailed it.

I don’t know why this is blurry–it looks fine on my computer till I upload it. Meh.

boom!box espionage cosmetics december 2015 elfs glitter

E.L.F.S. Cosmetic Glitter: $7

This is super pretty and spot on festive, but I work with a bunch of dudes and live with a bunch of dudes, and I kinda believe girls get dressed up to impress other girls. Plus I don’t go out clubbing anymore [so loud] so I don’t have much use for glitter.

But I LOVE glitter so I kinda want to keep this… perhaps I can use it to sprinkle on my desk and I’ll be able to tell who goes into my 3lb bag of walnuts in my snack drawer.

boom!box espionage cosmetics december 2015 wyvern headband

Kiru Self Rescuing Princess button: This is the best button.

Also because I stood in the shower and yelled for McBoyfriend to get me a towel today and only Bella came in, so I had to go rescue myself and run in the buff to grab a towel. I hate getting the floor wet. However, this princess rescued herself.

Wyvern Headband: I’ve been following the ECBOOM!box Instagram and love the dragon scale tights they made with Bombsheller.

Unfortunately my head is just HUGE and this doesn’t even come close to fitting. Sad. It’s cute and I love that the minions made it!

bella water

Bella was trying to help by knocking my water everywhere. Not helping, kitty!

boom!box espionage cosmetics december 2015 wyvern pendant optimystical studios

Wyvern Scale Pendant from Optimystical Studios: similar for $18. “Never laugh at live dragons you fool,” a quote from Lord of the Rings.

They’re beta testing their own jewelry sub box now for $20/mo.

I love that it goes with the theme, but I didn’t really get into LoTR. Will this be your precious??

boom!box espionage cosmetics december 2015 black phoenix alchemy lab perfume

Beware Crimson Peak Imps Perfume by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab: $4, 1/32oz sample.

“This is the scent of dread, of admonitions from beyond the grave: inky vetiver and black musk with carrot seed, elemi, and frankincense.”

I don’t not like this, but it smells like old lady vampire. Beware the vamps, gramps.

Oh noo! Alchemy Lab specializes in fandom perfumes and they have Labyrinth!!! I may have to buy some Jareth ::squeal::

boom!box espionage cosmetics december 2015 sam skyler

Sam Skyler Artwork and Coloring Page: Uhh so cool. Not only is this a lady BAMF, but she looks blackish so I can pretend it’s me with a shaved head and huge boobs. I hope this chick is some sort of awesome superhero. Maybe she opens glass ceilings with her mind and leaves fiery explosions.

I read the artist’s bio and she is pretty meeping awesome!

The print was framed immediately!

The giraffe is a four-years-in-progress piece for my sister…

bombsheller bath bomb espionage cosmetics boom!box

Misc items not included in the card: peppermint bathbomb [$4/each, going to my mom who has a jacuzzi tub], EC nail file, and a Bombsheller coupon.

Bella really wanted to help with this box!

I loved that pic and had to share it.

Verdict: While not everything was for me [or fit], I think the variety and curation in this box is tops!! They did a really great job picking from their Espionage Cosmetics inventory and providing geeky items from the geek-i-verse. There was SO much in this box, I was really impressed. I think I will have to go ahead and sub up for a longer period of time because I’m already excited for February, and hopefully between now and then I use up more of my nail wraps!!!

Also, in addition to the box contents, it looks like they’ll send out 30% off emails for some box contents midway through the month. You have to subscribe to save though 😉

PS: They have nail wraps for dudes so you can get your menicure on!

See my other review of when I visited Espionage Cosmetics!
[I still have trouble typing cosmetics]

Where my nerds at? What do you think–will you be signing up for the February box?

I feel old! I read it and am lost on half of it. I love the nail wraps and the self-rescuing button. I love the color of the headwrap. The print looks amazing. I liked how you framed it right away. Off to google words that I don’t know what they mean. I already looked up BAMF.

Ooh – I know BAMF!! lol

Fun review! But this box is not for me – I too am older than the target audience… oh well

When you mentioned The Labyrinth, I immediately thought of the movie – but then I had to click the link to make sure that’s what YOU meant. I was wondering if it was a younger reference that I didn’t understand. You weren’t even born when that movie came out in 1986, were you?!?

I was born that year! But my family loves the Muppets, I’m a big Jim Henson fan, and the Labyrinth has long been a favorite movie of mine =D I basically have it memorized.

My sister’s favorite movies when we were kids were Return to Oz and The Wiz, which also came out the year I was born and before we were born, respectively. Our dad is a sci-fi nerd so our movie watching was a bit different than most kids: Time Bandits, Explorers, Flight of the Navigator, Aliens, Twilight Zone movie and old episodes, Short Circuit, etc. all before I was 10. ♡♡

That’s awesome! What are your favorite Twilight Zone episodes? I love Time Enough at Last and the mannequin in the department store. A few years ago I found my sister’s stockpile of glasses and she admitted it was because of that episode! I’ve personally always been wary of mannequins.

The mannequin one is really good! My other faves are the Stopwatch episode and “To Serve Man”. I used to also love watching Tales from the Darkside and Alfred Hitchcock Presents – I sometimes get their episodes confused!
