Flicker & Flame Subscription Box Review + Coupon – December 2015

Disclosure: Flicker & Flame kindly sent the December box to me for review. All opinions are my own. There are affiliate links in this post.

There’s something about the cooler weather that invites me to burn candles more often. Most of the candles that I received in subscription boxes have been “light and airy’.  I was ecstatic to have an opportunity to review Flicker & Flame. I read Subscriptionista’s September’s Review with interest. A candle subscription box based on seasonal scents sounds wonderful!

A present!
A present!

I read Subscriptionista’s review months ago. I did not reread it to keep my impressions fresh and unbiased. I was not expecting a beautifully wrapped candle box! I had no clue to what the scent will be. Subscribers fill out a 30-second survey online. The survey even includes a picking scents from the fragrance wheel. I took a look at the survey. I prefer fresh citrus, fresh green, fresh water, woody oriental, and soft oriental.

Does personality play into the fragrances selected?

Beautiful Bow
Beautiful Bow

I had to place the box on its side to take a good picture of the bow. I love the bow. Part of the survey is the reason why you burn candles. The choice are relax, romance, excitement, and cleanliness. The first three sound great. Cleaniness to me means light and airy. I have enough candles like that!

In case you did not know, I am not the statuesque blonde blogger that rocks t-shirts. That blogger is Subscriptionista.

On tippytoes
On tippytoes

I decided that you were not able to have the full experience of the package. I stood on my tippytoes to take a photo. Yes, I could have moved the box, but what about the shadows?

I want my light fixtures!

Unwrapping the bow
Unwrapping the bow

I have a 7-year-old son. We are in full holiday mode in my house. I was giddy about unwrapping a gold bow and opening a heavy -duty black box. I’m particular about how my bows look on gifts. I noted that this bow was nicely tied. Note how the bow was tied on top with the ribbon going around the whole box. It takes time to wrap the box this way.

The unwrapping experience is gift worthy.

Voila
Voila

The container is solid. I tried pulling off the design and wasn’t able to do it. It’s a candle that you give with the confidence of knowing it’s gift worthy. I flipped the card over to find out that the scent is Holiday Cookies. I saw that in past reviews there were matches. There were not matches in my box.

It’s a dual purpose subscription box! Enjoy candles for yourself or keep them on hand for that emergency gift giving situation!

Single Wick
Single Wick

It’s a single wick candle. The spot in the upper right is from me digging into the candle to feel it. It has the smoothness of a soy candle with something else blended with it.  The candle is a soy blend candle that burns clean.

Yes, I have to touch everything! How else am I to give you the full experience?

Great Design
Great Design

The design evokes the feel of December. The colors are easy to match to a seasonal decor. My children were ready for the holiday baking to begin. It felt like it was time for family to visit.

Does anyone want cookies and pie? Wait! Make it cookies, cake, and cocoa!

Smells delicious
Smells delicious

We could smell a cookie scent when we took it out of the outer box. I received an email describing the scent as “a strong butterscotch base, with the addition of vanilla and raisin, and top notes of cinnamon.” How does that work with individual preferences? Flicker & Flame provided a couple examples. “For people who don’t like spicy or musky scents, we dialled back the clove. For people who prefer florals we introduced more orange blossom to complement the butterscotch and make the scent lighter. “

No more worrying about not liking a candle because scent ABC is too strong while scent XYZ was too light. Your candle will be just right!

Candle has been lit for a couple of hours
Candle has been lit for a couple of hours

The candle has a burned time of over 40 hours. I suspect that this candle will burn closer to 50 hours. Remember to let your candle burn for a few hours so the wax melts all the way around. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a candle whose sides won’t burn. You can see in the picture it burns evenly and is nearing the point where I can blow it out if I want.

It’s that time of the year! While I was gathering information on cost etc. for the review, I saw that Flicker & Flame offers a 4 Candle Holiday Pack. I thought of Subscriptionista because one candle scent is Mulled Wine.

All the review is missing is the scratch and sniff button!

Whiskers
Whiskers – mom to Zelda, grandma to Puss in Boots

Whiskers is laying on top of books. She approves of this candle because it matches her fur.

The Whiskers stamp of approval.

Verdict: The candle is a hit! Once upon a time in my earlier years back when dinosaurs roamed the world, I had a Yankee Candle that smelled like Sugar Cookies. I was thinking about it the other day because most of my candles are light and airy except for my recent Artistry Gifts Candles. I was hoping for a cookie based candle! The house smelled wonderful. I burned it while writing my Sweet Surprises review and wanted cookies!!!

The candle also makes a great gift. The presentation is excellent. It’s the perfect gift to have on hand for unexpected gifts or as a hostess gift. It was a lot of fun to open. The bow laid right on the box. I did not do anything to the bow. Not even fluff it up for the picture. Flicker & Flame did a wonderful job!

I signed up on Black Friday for 50% off my first candle! But I think that means my first candle will actually be January? This looks great though!
