Ipsy Subscription Review – December 2015

Ipsy is a subscription that costs $10 a month and sends out four or five deluxe sample size beauty items. Because of the price point it invites comparisons with Birchbox. Ipsy is more make up based, and has a “waitlist.” You can skip this wait if you pimp out your social media. I just emailed and asked to be put on the list and it was done very quickly.

Make Up Bag: I was chatting with Onderria and told her that this bag reminds me of a cheap prostitute and I like it!  It’s a holiday red, but the patent leather and hue is pretty trash looking on first view. Yet, I like it! It’s fun like wearing cut off shorts with holes or foregoing all understated fashion rules in favor of that huge kitty tank top with sparkly kitty ears.

Great bag to store my “business” cards!

Formula X – Nail Color (Revved Up): I like this gold color a lot and I decided to put it on right away! I am not that great at painting my nails for all sorts of reasons. However, I really should paint them more because I own more than my weight in nail polish! Without anything else (no base or topcoat) the manicure color lasted about 3 days where I used my hands a ton. I think that is actually pretty good!

Formula X makes me wonder if there is a Formula Y…

(whoops pic is somewhere…)

Elizabeth Mott – Thank Me Later Eye Shadow Primer: This sample should last a long time, at least for me. I am still one my very first eye shadow primer from months ago. I will wait to pop this one open but I will report back it if works well.

I wonder if Elizabeth Mott likes applesauce…

Clark’s Botanicals – Deep Moisture Mask: I can’t wait to use this! I have such dry skin and any moisture I can sneak into my skin is a blessing to it. You put this on and wait 15-20 mins and then rinse so I will probably pop this on before a shower and then just shower it off.

This will require precision shower timing that I am a famous for!

Peter Lamas – Hand Cream: I like getting mini hand creams so that I can stash them everywhere. Then when I look at my crazy dry mitts I am just one swipe away from relief! This stuff works well and has a smell that reminds me of something. I just can’t remember.

I think it reminds me of Sweet Tarts…

Pacifica – Natural Lipstick (Tender Heart): The idea of having a tender heart makes me think of lace doilies. I have no idea why. Anyway this is a brand I like and a full size product which makes the girls go wild. I just don’t care for the color at all. It will look like I have pumpkin pie all over my lips. I have a hard to work with skin tone for lipsticks so this one will be gifted.

Perhaps I will wrap it in lace doilies!!!

Verdict: I am happy with this months Ipsy! I am always happy that for $10 I can try out a lot of different products and get a make up bag. I don’t expect to ever get anything super fancy or something I can’t live without. I just like having fun with the items they send and just for that it is worth the money!

I thought I’d heard of you before this blog… it was the precision shower timing! Glad I figured that out because it was driving me crazy. 😉

I’m trashy and love the bag this month!! I think I only have a month or 2 left before my 1 year sub is up – I canceled months ago and don’t plan to sign up again due to product overload + Ipsy not being my personal favorite. This month was pretty good. I got the lipstick in Nudie Red which I think looks okay on me but it hasn’t been through the “mom test”… does anyone else have a 77 yr-old Italian mom with a Brooklyn accent who says everything out loud that she thinks in her head? “Oh no Heatha, that culla (color-FYI) makes you look pale.” Back to the lipstick – it does smell and feel sort of clayish but it doesn’t really bother me.

I got the same eye shadow primer (Mott… applesauce… ha!!) but I have an open one that will take me a while to finish up too – and I use it every day. I got an Aveeno moisturizer, a deep conditioning treatment for hair and an eye shadow trio… in brown. They’re almost always brown.

Haha, Heatha I loved the Italian mom comment =) I got the voice in my head and could see a mother just shaking her head in disdain, and perhaps rooting in her purse for a better shade. Perhaps she had the Popsugar December lipstick trio set in her bag??

I get weird colors all the time and some that have a pinkish or goldish hue which tend to bring out my pink cheeks. LOL I felt like I could see your mom (ok my imagination of her). I am thinking I would always fail her make up test. My mom? She will say everything looks AMAZING… then maybe after you have worn it awhile start in with the “well….”

The nail polish looks great on you! Pacifica is a great brand. I enjoy reading the post.

Hey so what about the Pacifica lipstick… Does it have a strong smell? I have read that it is pretty overpowering.

I didn’t notice the smell, but my big old nose has been stuffed for the past 3 days.
