I got this box back in October [hence the post title], but wanted to post it with pictures of my creation [then got busy with school and life]. Well, two months later and I’m done!!! Good thing my December box is en route. Slash that. It arrived today–eep!!!

That raincloud is sad because it couldn’t get this package wet!

“Creativity is something we practice and learn. Not something we are born with.” [Fran]

I love this quote because I am crafty and artistic. But that’s because my mom is crafty and artistic and always had us doing projects in addition to Girl Scouts and 4-H [no I don’t have cows, it was small city 4-H and we marbled paper bags and frosted cakes]. So, it always frustrates me when other people get disheartened about their creations. Art to me is more enjoying spending time doing something I like. If you want to make something really good you have to work at it and practice… and as you’ll see I need to work at this craft to get better 😉

One of my favorite DIY bloggers is adorable and British. Her name is Francesca, or Fran, and she runs the site Fall for DIY. In July [on my birthday, actually] she got her Kickstarter funded for We Make Collective, a new sort of crafty subscription box that sends you materials and has online tutorials so you can keep learning past the box. They want you to be crafty 4 life.

This box feels like it shipped out a month ago [as of when I originally started this post in October??], and I’ve just been running home every day, just to find packages for my roommate. But, it shipped from the UK, so it did take a bit [not that long]. I was impressed by the materials because I’ve found that the few craft boxes I’ve tried have some low quality items included, but this box better have good stuff for its price point!!

This box was packed with care. I loved seeing the Instagram pictures of her packing all the boxes! Made with love!!

My box had yarn in blue, pink, beige, and cream with colorful flecks, as well as some poofy stuff. The wood bits are the weaving loom, and there were also clay beads and thread, plus candy [immediately consumed], and a canvas tote to put it all in! Though, I wasn’t really sure what the beads were for.

Not for eating, sadly.

Before I started, I logged onto the website to checkout what it said. I put in my secret password and looked at some tutorials [the little guy is my fake pointer since the real one disappears during screen shots]. The website was a little confusing and it seems better now, so either they changed it a bit or I don’t know how to internet.

Probably the latter, tbh.

I thought I took halfway photos, but I cannot find them. These little teeth are used to hook your up and down threads on [technical terms], and then you weave left and right-ish.

Aww yeah, almost done! Can you guess what I tried to make??

Hint: it’s not boobs shooting poofs of smoke.

The cat model came out to give a tail flick of approval.

Subtle reminder that I need to change her litter… ahem…

Here it is all done! It’s supposed to be mountains at dawn, but sort of looks like pointy boobies… sorry. It was my first time trying to make a weaving look like something. To the left is a watercolor I attempted over the summer. I quite like it.

As I am editing this she tried to jump on my desk and walk across the keyboard.

Before I got this box I was weaving on a piece of cardboard, and my cat model would like to show off my favorite piece, which is right above her. Do not look at my desk mess…

Subscriptionista, we support your cat hair craft interest, and I want you to know that you can totally use cat hair in this type of project.

Verdict: I really liked this box. Mini weaves are so ugly, beautiful, and fun at the same time, so I was excited to do this! It was well put together, the contents were enjoyable to create with, and now I have a little online community to find tutorials from and share my projects with! This box is spendy, but bi-monthly, and I am not sure how long I will stick with it but I couldn’t cancel right away because I’ve been loving all of the sub boxes, websites, and pins with calligraphy font. The first official kit shipped in early December, and the theme is Calligraphy.

What did you think? Have you tried any small scale weaving?

I can see why you are excited about the box! I thought it was the sun setting on the mountains. I like the mountains at dawn better. it ‘s a new and beautiful day. The water color is beautiful. The kitty litter picture is great. Sometimes you get the shot that works out for the blog.

Sub Bella you should try weaving with J! It’s really nice and calming to sit with a bundle of yarn and just free weave. There are a lot of Pinterest tutorials showing different ways to make them, like on cardboard or a hula hoop. Oh, and have you found a bedside rug yet?

      • December 18, 2015 at 3:08 pm

I did find a rug. I still want to make one. I’ll check out the weaving. I did nnot know you could do it on cardboard.

This box looks so fun!! Did you use up all the yarn or do you still have some left over for another project?

Hey! I have more than half of each skein left. I was thinking about making some coasters or something.
