Sunday Morning Coffee Talk- Mail Service

It is time for Sunday Morning Coffee Talk and today we are discussing……

Mail Service!

The mail is delivered 6 days a week by the USPS. There are also independent carriers called Fed-EX and UPS and maybe more but that is all we have on Maui.

The people who bring the mail to us have no idea the important role they play in our lives. They probably have no idea that we know their schedule and what they look like.

USPS:

Things I can tell you about my mail service:

  1. My mail is delivered between 4-5 in the afternoon most days.
  2. My favorite mailman is a young man. He always brings my boxes to the door and he always gets some present of liquor from me during the holidays.
  3. My least favorite mail lady is the one who ALWAYS leaves me the orange slips to go to the post office. Doesn’t she see the toddler toys in the yard? Doesn’t she know that a trip to the post office with a toddler is like climbing Mount Everest? She does not get liquor for Christmas.
  4. All of my boxes except the Rachel Zoe box are delivered by the USPS as most services contract the actual delivery portion out here on Maui. The dreaded line when tracking packages is information sent to USPS (that means no tracking for a week at least).
  5. It is my belief that priority mail is by far the best and most reliable.
  6. I do wonder frequently if they hate me because between Amazon Prime and subscription boxes, we do give them a lot of work……

Now what about Fed-EX Smart post?

  1. I can tell you right now that it is neither Express nor Smart! Discuss!
  2. This is the service that PopSugar uses and I pretty sure this company is run by goats who want our subscription boxes to get a tour of America before traveling to us!

UPS?

  1. I have no real dealing with them
  2. Help me out?

No this isn’t real…. I love photoshop…

Now onto close encounters of a postal kind (sorry I just watched the new X-files and I am thinking about aliens):

  1. From a FB friend named Laura, she had this story this week:
Last week the mail carrier left a package ON TOP OF my mailbox, on the street, where the wind, snow, rain, or any passerby could have snagged it WTF?!? Apparently the 10 seconds to the door was just too much….
  2. From a FB Friend Cathy:
‘we have a “secret arrangement” where I have given her a written note granting permission to hide, I mean, put my packages in the back of my SUV, and somehow they always end up sliding under the blanket I keep back there. She is a Rock Star!
  3. From a FB friend Natasha:
I can tell a story about a state trooper and a mail person getting into it at the post office counter over a label not being attached correctly! It ended with the trooper storming out muttering “how effing stupid.” Not five minutes earlier he was telling a little boy about how he needed to be good so he doesn’t get arrested. Abandon hope all ye who don’t follow USPS rules!
  4. This happened to me:
As a Fed-ex delivery guy approached my house, my 15 lb dog ran out barking. I ran out after her only to watch the fed-ex guy throw my box at her and storm off….. huh….. Glad it wasn’t breakable!
  5. IMG_1045Here is danger dog now…. just waiting on pins and needles should the Fed-ex man return…. (in all fairness the poor man has probably been bitten)

Ok now onto to you guys? What do you know about your mail service? Does your postman hide your boxes in your car to keep your husband from seeing them? Do you get your mail at work so you can open as soon as possible? How many times a day do you stalk tracking numbers??

Discuss!

USPS: I’m fortunate I have a great mail carrier. If the package doesn’t fit the mailbox he will put on the porch. If there is the chance of it is going to rain or snow he will put the package right against the door so it won’t get wet. The one UPS guy is nice and sometimes have doggy treats for the dogs.
The flowers are beautiful. And your dog is cute. 🙂

FYI at my old place when the USPS leaves that “pick up” slip (because s/he forgot to bring the package not because a camera monitored mailroom is “unsafe” as per slip), you can go online at USPS and schedule a redelivery.

Amazon Prime must be using USPS primary in Hawaii. In Chicago, we get delivery by USPS (Sunday delivery even!), UPS, and “Amazon”. I believe Amazon vans are the less than 2 hour service I have not used (yet) but I noticed they usually deliver my light packages. UPS usually delivers the Save and Subscribe.

Cute photos and review here 🙂

Amazon vans?!?! That is awesome! Amazon prime is the best thing that ever happened IMO! They shipped all of my baby stuff here for FREE!!! I personally want to hug them.

Yup a white van with no windows with an Amazon logo on one side so you are freaking out 50% of the time if they are stealing children (its one of those funny but not funny quirks of mine that windowless vans freak me out).

I am soooo psyched for my next Amazon S&S order I pushed the date up so everything locks in on the first. I should add baby wipes but maybe next month I always seem to have an abundance and then poof “honey where are the wipes!?!”

Adorable pup and great post. I have a reliable mailman, it’s on his days off I worry about my subs. Ups and FedEx are also good, I’m blessed with decent delivery service. I don’t stalk tracking numbers. Thank you MBJ.

I’m not home Mon-Fri from 8am until after 6pm… I don’t think I’ve ever seen our mail carrier but pretty sure it’s a male and that he comes between 4pm & 5pm. There have a been a few boxes in the mailbox that barely fit so I had to work a little bit to get them out but otherwise, no issues – he puts the big ones on my porch by the door. I rarely pay attention to which delivery service is used – I know I’ve seen the UPS truck a few times b/c I think they usually deliver our Amazon packages – always timely and in good condition.

I check some tracking numbers a couple times but most come very quickly so I don’t need to bother more than once – if at all (a couple sub boxes have been known to send me the tracking number after I’ve gotten my box!)

I wish I could be like you Heat but alas I am a stalker of tracking codes…

I miss my old mailman. He took great care of my packages and came around 12:30. The mailman that replaced him smokes. He comes between 4-6 and delivers packages that smell like smoke.I used to receive broken items in my boxes until around Christmas time. Now he places them nicely on my doorstep and knocks on my door to let me know. I guess the Target giftcard helped.

The UPS guy does a quick honk before running the package up to the door. He’ll put the boxes in a plastic bag on bad weather days. The dogs love him because it is exciting to bark at the truck as they hear the quick honks around the neighborhood.

Fedex has the knack for finding the wettest spot on my porch. It is a talent. Most of the time it isn’t usually an issue because I have a home office and can check the porch. The Fed Ex guy and UPS guy go through the neighborhood at the same time which adds much excitement for the dogs.

My biggest complaint is 2-day delivery. 2-day delivery means I usually receive my boxes in 3-4 days. I had a recent box that went west before heading east. Not a 2-day delivery. I feel bad for the sub boxes that pay for it. I wonder if they get part of their money back if they don’t arrive on time?

    • January 31, 2016 at 8:11 pm

Was that the same mailman that threw your boxes over your steps that needed repair. I didn’t remember that he was a smoker.

    • January 31, 2016 at 9:24 pm

Alright! You understand my level of mail people observation! One of my biggest complaints is the relationship of handing off the box from UPS or Fed-Ex to the USPS here. The boxes will literally go missing for two weeks….

I feel your pain! Right now mail is ok. I don’t really know my mail carrier since I live in a building and they must show up when I am away at work. However, I hate to see the slip and just wish things would be left. I seriously doubt anyone wants to steal my stuff.

Try to re-schedule it online. At my old place I did it a few times and I guess my mailperson gave up and is like I will give this lady her daily box its not worth using a pen and paper :/
