Sunday Morning Coffee Talk: Rickman + Bowie

It’s a week late, but I wanted to post a little about two of my old man loves. Both of these Brits passed away from cancer last week at the age of 69.

Alan Rickman was a celebrity crush after I saw him in Dogma, then in 9th grade I only had eyes for Professor Snape when the first Harry Potter film came out. Okay, and Percy.

Rickman has got such an amazing voice–I wish I could just hear it narrate things to me. “The drink in her hand was mildly warm. She set it down and continued to shovel chips into her mouth. Bella stared at her human with mild disgust.” Thanks, Alan!

David Bowie was probably my first crush. I loved Labyrinth as a child. It was made by Jim Henson, one of my heroes, and has such a wonderful story that to this day, I still call my favorite movie.

The people trying to remake The Labyrinth can stuff it! A 14 year old in love with a 40 year old man in a kid’s movie was a little passable in the 80s, but now it would just be creepy… Sarah will have to be almost 18 or something.

In college, I purchased a Best of Bowie album from Borders, and I loved listening to that CD. I’ve got it on now and I’m a bag of tears ='(

My favorite scene from the movie, for your peeping pleasure!

After thinking about this, I wondered what older men teens and tweens crush on now.

Benedict Cumberbatch.

Amirite? I used to nanny for a tween, and she was obsessed! I watched an interview with him last night after an Alan Rickman and Jimmy Fallon interview, and Fallon mentioned Benedict’s fans are called “Cumberbitches” but he prefers “the Cumbercollective“. The picture above is from Zoolander 2, which slightly amused me because David Bowie was in the first movie.

And because we reference the Mike Meyers SNL sketch, I was highly amused when I saw the wine I grabbed last week was for Da Bears [another amusing SNL sketch].

I learned that wine fits quite well into car cup holders! Btw I wasn’t drinking and wine-ing, I was taking it to family dinner 😉

Who were your celeb crushes as a child? And who do you think teens <3 now? Let us know! Twalk, discuss.

I want to give you a cyber hug for posting a tribute. Alan Rickman will always be the Sheriff of noting ham for me saying, “cut your heart out with a spoon” and spitting at the same time. Oh and I can’t even begin to talk about Bowie. All I can say is a personal motto of mine is “put on your red shoes and dance the blues!”

Great post! I just watched Labyrinth for the umpteenth time last night! Love it! Some of my celeb crushes were Matt Dillion (The Outsiders and Tex era) and River Phoenix! <3

Thanks, Rachel! I’ve been trying to sneak Labyrinth on since I met my boyfriend, but he hates quirky/cult movies, so he refuses. Now I told him it’s not an option!

I had to look up what Matt Dillon had been in that I’d seen. I think Crash and Something About Mary. =)

In middle school I was in love with Brian from the Backstreet Boys, and one year I had their calendar. I also loved Leo because Romeo + Juliet and Titanic came out when I was in my teens. I do recall getting a NKOTB cassette tape player with all the boys’ faces on it for my 5th birthday. It was glorious but I don’t think it lasted long.

I think out of all of those boy crushes, Brian is the only one I’d still take to the Sadie Hawkins dance.

I LOVE David Bowie. Golden Years and Space Oddity are two of my favs of his. I would have loved to see him in concert. I’ve actually never seen Labyrinth. It looks kind of creepy though…

My celeb crush was Carey Elwes. The Princess Bride and Robin Hood Men in Tights are great movies. I think I first saw him in Glory. I was never really into the “heart throbs” that girls my age liked. But I loved me some Donny Wallberg! Lol

What is everyone getting as theire Pick Your Sample at Birchbox? I went for thr Arrow lippie because the Curated box’s sirens call was not speaking to me there is a perfume noise block installed in my head.

    • January 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm

I want the mud mask but I don’t need blowout stuff or more highlighter, and for the regular samples it looks like I’m not an Ace anymore ='( I was thinking lippie also too as well.

      • January 27, 2016 at 3:02 pm

Check to see whether you can PYS I think BB changed the ACE layout I could have sworn there was a ACE icon on the upper right. My points reset (I ony have 60 “earned” from January’s samples) and it says I am an ACE but its not in huge fonts I thought it once was…

If I did not have a zillion masks I would do a slap-on peel-off but that is because I love peel off masks less messy more fun.
