Sun Basket Subscription Review + $30 Coupon!!! – February 2016

Sun Basket brings healthy cooking with fresh organic ingredients right to your very door. You may feel as if you live on a a farm. A weird farm that packages everything you eat really nicely and provides recipes. Maybe a farm of the future? But like today?

I am a huge fan of using services like this because of the following reasons:

  • I don’t have a ton of time to put together meal plans
  • I don’t like going grocery shopping after a long day unless it is for wine
  • I often will put together boring meals
  • I still have lots to learn about cooking and having everything ready for me makes it more fun

When Sun Basket arrives it means I don’t have to put in any of my free time to things I don’t feel like doing. I can just go straight from getting home, feeding the cat, to cooking up a healthy meal and bragging about it to anyone who will listen. They also have a focus on fresh and sustainable ingredients!

Cost: The price per meal is about $11.98 per meal

Now on with the show!

Sun Basket Review

The box is here! I like that everything looks nice and well… hate to say it but… sunny! I also felt a bit superior to other people in my condo building who all get Blue Apron. I felt so cutting edge! Guess who now has something to talk about in the elevator? Me!

VERY easy to make in the morning when I am super rushed and usually running around trying to find where I put my keys. The ingredients did not take a lot of time to prepare at all, and cooking it up was a breeze. It had spice but not a lot. Just enough for me to feel alive at a time of day that I feel like a zombie.

I drank the smoothie with the scramble though I could easily have broken them up into two separate breakfasts. I just was so curious I had to have a smoothie!

The portions for this meal were great! I was able to feed two big morning eaters easily! Very impressed with his dish and I would indeed start my day off with this again!

Will I become  one of those obsessed smoothie fans?

I picked this meal because I cook for a bear. This bear LOVES salmon. I knew I could eat the sides easily and I could supplement if I wanted. Anyway the portions of salmon were HUGE. I mean I have never seen such large pics in a meal subscription! The sides two were huge. This meal provided three meals easily even more pretty large eaters. I loves the yogurt dill sauce. I sort of just want to make it and have it with basically everything!

Again this was super easy to make and it did not require a ton of prep work like Blue Apron makes me do. Some people may like all the chopping but I get mad. This actually only took the 10 min prep time and the 20 mins to cook!

I am THIS close to being able to have my own cooking show!

This is like a power bowl but for dinner! This one had a little bit more work chopping wise because of all the veggies in the dish. It was pretty good, and I added some hot sauce to it to give it an extra dinner kick I sometimes need. The amount of food in this dish was insane. I think we had it at least twice! I love that it was healthy but not boring. I also have never had anything like it!

I want to drink coconut milk every single day!

Verdict: Sun Basket is my new favorite meal subscription. They have fresher ingredients and larger portions than many of the other baskets I have tried in the past. They also deliver on time, which is very important. I have had Blue Apron forget about my order for weeks! The customer service is responsive (again unlike Blue Apron where I had to go to far as to post an empty dish and tag them saying something like “my Blue Apron Meal.”) Sun Basket has inventive meals that don’t take forever to make. This is a huge win for me and I am looking forward to showing you more in the future!

I don’t think they deliver to me way over here in Cincinnati, OH… I checked a few months ago. But I’m very happy with Home Chef so far – just got through week 3.

Sun Basket looks awesome! And your review is fabulous – as always. All the food looks yummy, healthy and pretty. 🙂 It’s great that these are so quick to prepare too.

I am in LOVE with Sun Basket. Like IN LOVE! I like that they have options for me. But yeah, only west coast right now. I am going to try Home Chef at some point when they are in CA.

That’s pretty cool they have meals that cater to different dietary restrictions/lifestyles. I’m not paleo, but don’t mind reducing my carbs. And this is the first food delivery I’ve seen that has breakfast — the most important meal of the day. The smoothie looks 100x better than the Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes I ate as a teenagers who was always running late.

I think you secretly LOVE the salmon because you are a bear…

Home Chef offers 1 breakfast each week, also 1 smoothie and 1 basket of fruit – along with the 10 dinner options.

That is sweet! I don’t think they deliver to the west. I need to look again…

Home Chef does seem pretty interesting too. I like the wide variety you can choose from though the vegetarian options a limited based on the current menu. And having different price options makes sense too. Though buying a breakfast and a smoothie seems a little pricey. Hopefully they will make it to the west coast eventually.

Wow look at that salmon. Your salmon pieces are so huge. Heh. *salmon envy*

I saw this advertised on Facebook and was really interested so I’m glad to see you reviewing it! I like how interesting and different the meals are. As for smoothies, I would totally be a smoothie person but our blender likes to keep it chunky. Plus, after using a Vitamix all other blenders are inferior.

    • February 21, 2016 at 9:35 am

I have never tried the Vitamix and now I am afraid to because if it is better than what I have I will always think of the Vitamix. You know what I mean? I think I bought my sister a Vitamix last year actually I should ask her… I remember she was talking about it and that I bought her something that she never takes out and uses…

Uhhh steal it back from her! It’s the Kitchenaid of the blender world–expensive and rightfully so. I told my sister to ask for a new one for her wedding and to give me her old one!

So we have no meal service thingys like this in Hi but from what I have seen review wise this one totally looks like the best option. If you are going to order this for convenience sake then they took the right approach and made it super convenient! No pulling thyme on stems for you!

This looks like taking worth a break from blue apron to try, thanks Subscriptionista. You cook for a bear?

    • February 21, 2016 at 7:13 pm

Girl, Blue Apron did me so dirty! I am STILL mad! Yeah, I TRY to cook for a bear. They are forgiving in that they will eat anything you put in front of them. Still… you KNOW when they like actually like something…
