Sun of A Chic Subscription Box Review-January 2016

I kept seeing this box on Instagram showing a steady stream of cool girls wearing chic glasses and I thought to myself I want to look cool……….
But oh wait, is that jack in the box grease on my shirt?!?!

Ok so we established I will not be looking as cool as these chicks but since I live in a sunglass climate calendar of 365 days I figured I should try it.

Now here are their specs:

I did shock myself by signing up because usually shipping charges on subscription boxes will make me say……………Nope! 

But I made an exception because they charge everyone and not just me a Hawaii Dweller. Also an fyi, they ship on the 20th of each month and bill on the 1st. So keep that in mind if you want to try it out that you might be billed for two boxes without receiving your first box.

This box comes with no info card and is light on the packing supplies.

First pair: Aviators with Colored lenses

 

These babies have no brand label on them. Frames are lightweight but feel just as substantial as more expensive glasses. Fit feels good. There is no sticker or indicator that they offer any UV protection which is a little worrisome to me. Sunglasses with no UVA or UVB protection can potentially damage your eyes. See this Time magazine article for more info. Colored lenses always make me think of my adolescence and Oakley’s Frogskins.

Second pair: Clubmasters in Black 

These sunglasses are similar. No brand info but they actually feel pretty darn sturdy. I am hard on sunglasses and I think these might last awhile.

Did you even know that this style of sunglass is called the Clubmaster?!? Who knew. Not me! Although the style conjures up images to me immediately of Lea Thompson. I spent most of my time this evening trying to find the picture I had of her in my mind because I could have sworn she was wearing this style. Here is the shot:

But it turns out she was wearing WayFarers……….

But you know who did wear Clubmasters?!?!?!

That’s right!

So far I am intrigued by this subscription. The quality of the frames is much better than I expected but I am going to email them to find out if the glasses offer any UVA or UVB protection before I order another box (will update). The aviators are totally my style but the clubmasters are a little too retro from my own generation for me to get too excited about them (one of those time meld conundrums of when something comes back into style that is from your era and you feel way to old to rock that style, AGAIN). However, they are growing on me and they are really comfortable so they might sneak into the rotation.
