The Boxwalla Beauty Subscription box Review-February 2016

Boxwalla Beauty Box:
What: Green Cruelty-free Beauty Products
Cost: $49.95
Ships: Bi-monthly and for free!

Do you troll the internet when you should be going to bed? I do. And the topics always vary. But in the last few months I have been researching beauty ingredients and the subscription boxes that peddle them. So one night as I am trolling I come across a Jerry Maguire like Manifesto……. read it here

The manifesto is about Boxwalla’s approach to ingredients in their beauty products. And well, they just talk some plain common sense. Here is my favorite line from their blog post: The Truth About Beauty Products,
“I guess the most important guideline we espouse is to enjoy it all – the research, the finding, the using of the products”

Yep, because lets face it, to have the luxury to choose or not to choose the products you use out of sheer preference for ingredients is a privilege.

Before we even open the box. We have to talk about the box itself. It feels like a piece of art! I copied their description of how it is made from their instagram:

“Did you know our boxes are hand crafted from tree-free paper? A small company in India makes the paper for us, from cotton scraps, using the traditional art of paper-making that involves 9 steps and takes several weeks. The handmade paper is then meticulously fashioned into the boxes that you see in the pictures. The whole process is completely child labor free and employs 63 local villagers and 20 skilled artisans whose families have been making paper for generations”

How cool is that?! This box is getting saved to hold treasures!

This company offers 4 types of boxes. Here are the categories: Film, Literature, Beauty and Food. This review is of their Beauty Box. I am including retail values for this since it is a relatively new box and so a value gauge is appropriate I think.

If you like you unboxing in one minute then watch this video:

The theme for this month is Cleopatra. Ah the Queen of the Nile…. Did you know that she spoke multiple languages and was educated in math, astronomy, oratory and philosphy…. Beauty and Brains!

Yes, I was reading the History Channel Again…. You can learn 10 things about this legendary queen here

Soooo pretty!

Lalun Naturals Winter Rose Toner 2 oz (RV $11-estimation)

Rose water alone has anti-septic and anti-bacterial properties that can be drying to the skin. But when you throw in some honey and aloe then you have skin frosting. I love love love that it came in a spray bottle! I hate using toner on a cotton ball. I feel like it wastes so much!

Lalun Moon Butter (RV $7)**Update!! The price for this size (15g) included in the box is $18! They do have a smaller size that is 4g for $7

Moon Butter…..If you have dry skin then stop reading and click the link for this stuff. I applied it right after a shower before getting into bed and the next morning my skin still felt wonderful. Update info: if you are curious and want to try it out then opt for the 4g version for $7!!  It is dense so I can see this stuff lasting me for quite awhile! Tip: best applied on damp skin (aka post shower) to aid in absorption.

I did check the ingredients and despite being packed with good stuff there is no actual moon particles in this butter.

It came with this nifty spoon!

Cocoapink Goatsmilk and Honey Lotion 6 oz (RV $12)
There were 2 scent options for this lotion Signature White and Orange+Amber. I looked around on the website and you can actually order this stuff in a wide variety of scents. And when I say a variety of scents, I mean like over a 100! There is even one called Zombie Apocalypse! The create your lotion in handmade batches without parabens or SLS. They also don’t have any 13-20 letter long synthetic stabilizers in them either. Lightweight and quick absorption means I think I am in love!

Oh you goats, the hatchers of devious plans but the producers of such wonderful stuff called goats milk…… a true irony of our times

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Smart (Rv $36)

Hello, happy color! This stuff looks really bright in the container but it goes on sooo pretty! I was really pleased to see a color that I feel like works for all skin tones (including my multi-mixed freckled self). So many times in sub boxes I feel like they throw in the most neutral color known to man that only shows up on a piece of paper. So to see this bright, cheerful and saturated color show up in the box made me squeal. I know, I know, it doesn’t take much. The application is easy.

I think the song smooth operator was written about this blush. It is so creamy!

RMS skin2skin blush brush (Rv $34)

I have not tried this brush yet but it looks great. It is completely vegan and is designed to mimic skin to skin application. Which means, the brush works to sweep and press the color into the skin (I learned this from their website).

You had me at hello RMS lip2cheek and brush…..

Survey Says:

This box made me really happy. I love everything in it ALOT. The value was outstanding! Just the blush and brush alone covered the cost of the box. The curation feels really tight and I love that these products have great ingredients but also work really well. Also important to note that this box works a little different than other boxes. You actually have to individually purchase each box. You are not automatically rebilled each installment. They do release a theme and for this box they released a spoiler. So if you like the look of this box then start watching their instagram for the April theme.

******Updated info!!!!! They still have some Cleopatra boxes left for purchase if you are interested!! Also they do have an option to subscribe which includes rebilling!! This news made me do a little happy dance because I  was a little worried about missing any boxes! Click here to subscribe (no referral links attached)***************************

I had to look it up…
Zombie Apocalypse – Dark empty musk infected with lashes of black vanilla, petitgrain essential oil, magnolia flowers, jasmine sambac with the empty remains of vanilla sandalwood.

I think the writer of these scents should meet the writer of GlobeIn. Then who knows what we would be lured in to buy 😉
