BarBella Subscription Box Review + Coupon-February 2016

Disclosure: this box was sent to me for my honest review. I personally reached out to this box to review it because I love all things crossfit and subscription boxes.

CROSSFIT………….

The only place to begin this review is with a joke:

“An atheist, vegan and a crossfitter all walked into a bar….

I know they are an atheist, vegan and crossfitter because they all told me within 5 minutes of being in the bar.”

Yep, that sums it up. We who do crossfit love it. We love talking about it. We love doing it. We love watching it. We would talk your ear off in a heart beat if you let us. And we love stuff that enables us to do it better!!

Ok this is the part where you choose your next adventure:
A. Do you know/love CF then skip down to the 1st item
B. Do you have no idea what CF is but are intrigued by my super interesting reviews (hehe) and want an understanding of CF so you can understand this review?!?!

If you choose B then watch this video of the queen of CF :

Ok let’s un-box!!

20160308_163310-1Belle and Bell Tank Limited Edition Tank (RV $24.95)
This tank is lightweight and perfect for showing off your toned arms and in my case making my man shoulders look delicate (a not so easy task). It is listed on their website right now on-sale for $19.99. I love that this is their second box that includes a clothing item (and they send you your size!). Their first box contained a sports bra. I think for a specialty box that these little extras of sending you clothing in which they check your profile then match your size and get it all correct is what makes the cost of the box. Hardly any main stream boxes will venture into clothing!

Here is the top on:

me

Yes that is a huge preggo belly but don’t those man shoulders look delicate?!?

Gym Gypsy Spring Workout Planner (RV $18)
Yes! I may have squealed a little when I saw this journal. It is a fitness journal geared towards CF. And you might be thinking… why do they need their own type of journal!?! We just do ok. Here is a peek inside:

20160308_163428-1

Isn’t it awesome?! There are specific areas for the different CF exercises as well as all the things that factor into your fitness like sleep, stress, soreness and etc. A friend at the gym has a similar one and I had been admiring it for awhile so for me this was a great item to get in a box. As well as a code for a discount for your next one!

Yes, I have been sending subtle messages to my baby to be born on St Patricks Day! (WOD in CF speak means Workout of the Day)

buffbakeBuff Bake Protein Peanut Spread in Red Velvet (2 pks RV $4)
In the words of Pnut, nom nom nom nom…… and nom some more. Yowza this stuff is amazing. It tastes delightful and look at that superpower line-up of ingredients. I was sure I would flip this packet over and see a “sugar-substitute”. Me and the sugar substitutes don’t play nice and they seem to be in anything fitness food related. I personally trust sugar in my foods. We have come to an understanding. So when I saw that they used coconut palm sugar as a sweetener I did a little jig (and I mean little, I don’t want this baby to pop out until the 17th).

Go to Amazon now and see all the flavors they have… I mean it, like go now… Ok well I mean finish reading this review and then go..

Stakk’d Performance Caffeine Supplement (RV $4)
This stuff is simple. It contains caffeine and B vitamins. Kind of like drinking a Monster without all the calories and sugar. I have to be careful with B vitamins in supplements. They make me loco! No really….. like hook me up to the cardiac monitor. However, these supplements are simple and on a side note they need to be mixed with more than 7 oz or more of fluids!

Joshua Tree Lip Balm Desert Shimmer (RV $5)
Cue smile from ear to ear! I love that they included this brand for many reasons. One, great ingredients (see below) but it is also a small independent company made by outdoor lovers for outdoor lovers. The shimmer is lightweight and it has a little SPF!

Slather on and you can show up to workout with a tad of shimmer and a smile and people will be wondering what you had for breakfast!

WOD Repair Lotion (RV $2)
So when you lift heavy stuff and swing around on bars your hands take a beating. And maintaining your hands is crucial to keeping them from looking like hamburger meat. See below! This is another independent company created by a woman! The ingredients are simple: beeswax, cocoa butter, coconut oil, shea butter and vitamin e. I would compare this more to a balm then a lotion so despite its small size it is pretty dense. It is pretty affordable in full size ($8) so this is a nice way to see if it works for you.

You can use WOD Repair Lotion to avoid this!

Survey Says:

So when you subscribe to a specialty subscription box you typically see the cost and value of items being pretty similar in comparison. For this box, the cost is $50 and total RV of items included is $58. However most of us that desire a specialty box know that the true value lies in getting items that you know you will love and use. Also a big plus in receiving this box is discovering new and upcoming or independent brands that you might love.  So for me, I think this box is a total win!

What a fantastic box! And a really fantastic review!

I want to do crossfit so bad. There are two crossfire places within one block of me, but my husband is afraid I’ll get injured (I’m kind of a lazy work-outer).

Getting injured is a really common worry about people starting crossfit because it seems like a lot of people do get hurt BUT if you find a good gym (or box as we call it) with good coaches then they really will take the time to instruct you properly and help you start slowly and safely. Both my mother in law and father in law have gotten into it (both in their late 50’s) and they are doing great and having a ton of fun. It is such a supportive community and that accepts people at any level.
Plus the nice thing is that crossfit focuses on so many types of exercises that you don’t get bored and a lot of the workouts are short (perfect if you are a lazy worker-outer!)
I promise if you have any desire at all to try it then you should because you will love it!!
