I would say my worst hairtastrophe was in the 10th grade. I had mid-back length hair with some body to it. I of course despised my hair as 15 year-olds are oft to do. I wanted big curly hair like the girls in all the videos of the the time (’87), so at the salon I found a picture of a woman with shoulder length curls that I thought would be perfect. The stylist began by cutting my hair to shoulder length. I was unaware of the grave mistake she had made because at that time I did not understand length of hair/curl dynamics. So I cheerfully waited through the rolling, perming and unrolling; waiting for the new me. When all the rollers were out my wet curls barely reached my shoulders. My stomach dropped. But I thought I can work with this; do a little of this, a little of that to it. It will be fine. Nope 2 hours later my fully dried hair had shrunk up to my ear lobes. I looked like I was a 15-year old Richard Simmons sweating to the oldies. A brunette little Orphan Annie. Not the look I was going for. It loosened up some over the next few months and thankfully grew fast so by the end of the school year I was a rocking hair band groupie hair.

A couple of years ago I cut it all off… And put pink highlights in it.. At the time it seemed great, but I came across a pic of it the other day and OMG it was horrible!! Can’t believe everyone lied and said it looked good!!!

I FEEL you on that. I dyed my hair super light blonde for the past year and no one said anything about it, now im looking at pics and am glad that I have been trying to tone it down. I was looking like a ghost! Pink? I want to do that now!

I don’t know that I’ve ever had something truly disastrous, but whenever my hair grows long after shaving it, it looks dreadful. There’s no real graceful way to do it, so I chop off the bottom and think growing thoughts to the top.

I love the idea of “growing thoughts” I swear I have been trying to grow my hair a bit longer and it is ALWAYS the same length!

Somewhat similar to Jennifer, it involved a perm and going too short in the 5th or 6th grade… it didn’t help that I had giant metal braces and just totally gawky/awkard all around. 🙁

Looking back at pictures, people love to laugh at my longer, big permed hair with poufy bangs that I had in junior high & high school, but I loved it!! LOL

I am glad that you owned your hair back then! I pretty much have the same hair I have always had (since the bangs era lol) I bet you look super cute! I totally have always wanted big hair!

In high school I decided to cut my long (hip length) hair up to my ears and get a ton of layers in my hair. It was so flat and thin but I had to flip out each layer with a flat iron every day. It was kind of Meg Ryan inspired hair but it did NOT work on me. It took so long for my hair to grow back. And one time I dyed my hair a really weird strawberry color that I thought looked great but I look back at photos and cringe.

    • March 25, 2016 at 4:30 pm

Whoa! That takes so much courage!!! I have pretty much had the same hair forever!

Back when the layered hair look was just coming out, I decided that I would DIY it and see how it come out. Big mistake. My hair was uneven and it did not come out at all the way I want it to.

You are so brave!!!! I have never ever tried to cut my own hair. Now I can’t get the idea out of my head lol

When I was younger my mom insisted on giving me a short bob with bangs even though I had super frizzy, curly hair. Now I’m super afraid to go anywhere above my shoulders!

    • March 25, 2016 at 4:22 pm

Why did she do it? My mom made me wear bangs. They looked awful. I really should ask her why, but now she would probably say something like “you wanted them!” lies…all lies lol

I used that new Olia dye and it stripped the color out of my hair and made it a dull grey it was AWFUL!!

    • March 25, 2016 at 4:20 pm

I thought about getting that!!! I have read some CRAZY reviews about it. There are people who have had REALLY bad experiences with it. Yet the marketing make it seem so great. I am so sorry it made your hair like that! I have dyed my hair with other dyes and turned it orange… Is there a box dye that beats out the others in your mind?

If you want to hear hair disasters I could tell you ton of them. I have naturally thick curly hair. When I was younger my hair was twice as thick at least. I think when I was 5th or 6th grade I took children safety scissors and gave the bottom half of my head of hair a buzz cut. It wasn’t that noticeable when my hair was down. But when my hair was up it looked funky.
In 8th grade went to the hairdressers and came out looking like a French poodle. My hair is too curly for short layers.
I don’t know how many times my hair ate the hairbrush. There was one day I had to cut hairbrushes out of my hair three times! That was a very bad hair day! I have had a lot of other hair disasters!!

    • March 27, 2016 at 2:06 pm

That whole shaved bottom of the hair was like a thing for us in jr high/high school. I didnt do it because even then I knew my hair was thin. I WISH my hair would eat a hair brush! THE POWER! I would have all THE POWER OF HAIR!!!!!!!! My hair is so thin people who cut it even comment. It always has been.
