Golden Tote Subscription Box Review-April 2016

Golden Tote is a clothing subscription style box. It is not your usual box of mystery. With this box you actually get to chose part of it!!

What: Golden Tote
The jyst: Started by the designers of the indie brand Puella, this box is designed to give you access to cool clothing at a fraction of the cost.

How it works: There are three “totes” to chose from (Note these are the new totes effective May 1st).

  1. Mystery Tote $89 (3 surprise items)
  2. Golden Tote $149 (Pick 2 pieces from their “chosen items” and get 3 surprises)
  3. Mini Tote $59 (Pick one item you love and get one surprise item)

Style Profile: Create a style profile with requests, likes and dislikes. I chose trendy and put in my comments that I was looking for cute tank tops

Returns: There have been many phases of this concept but currently you either keep the whole tote or return it. If you want to keep a chosen item then you pay the boutique price or if you want to keep a surprise item then the flat rate is $35. Note: They are updating this but details have not yet been released.

Facebook group: Yes you want to join this. It is a FB group for buying/selling/trading items from Golden Tote. Warning: it will cause you to stop caring about what anyone else (i.e friends and family) does on FB. You will soley log into FB to see what is happening in the GT trading group.

In this short paragraph, you have learned what it has took me months to absorb about this thing called Golden Tote!

Ok so I chose the $149 tote (best deal IMO) and I ordered it right around the time as my Trendsend so I could compare them. I wanted to have a wide variety of stuff to look at and try on.

Every tote order actually comes in a tote! This tote was the April edition.

Here is my invoice:

Puella Swing into Spring Dress in Small:

The material is 96%rayon and 6% spandex. I love this dress. It is super comfy. I also like that it is knee length.

All clothes should have spandex. Jus sayin

2nd Chosen:

In Full Swing Tank in Small:

This tank was available in three color options. I logged in late and the teal option was already sold out so I opted for this coral color. I like the color and pattern but the fit is really awkward on my body (IMO). The swing title or style means the shirt flairs out at the bottom like a triangle.

Pink Owl Printed Tank:

Normally this would be right up my alley. Bright colors? Check! Tank Top? Check! Easy/breezy? Check! But this is how it looks in the back:

Shirts this long don’t belong with shorts…….Similar to how chocolate and peanut butter shouldn’t be mixed. Oh wait…..now that is a combo I can get behind.

Gilli Polka Dot Tie Waist Dress:

This dress is as soft as butter and fit perfectly but it made me feel frumpy for some reason. It is really cute and casual and well made. This is a perfect example of a surprise item that is totally worth the money!

I mean I know I always look like a hippie but this made me feel like I looked hippy…..ya know like..fat bottom girls you make the rockin world go round!

20160418_171002-1She and Sky Pom Pom Tank:

I can see why my stylish chose this top for me. It is almost exactly similar to one of my chosen items. However, it has that same swing effect making it look a little funny on this old body of mine. Here is the side profile where the top cuts really high on my hips:

Yep I am still wearing my maternity shorts….elastic waist bands should be on all clothing. Jus sayin…

Gilli Dress with Striped Skirt:
How out of control is this dress? So so pretty! It is a small and well what you can’t see is that it is a little bunched up in the back. I have had trouble finding my size in some of these brands. Over the winter I ordered mystery totes in medium and a lot of it is to big so I am still working out the process.

When I had this dress on I kept thinking of Chris Farley and a big man in a smmmmallll jacket! I forgot to size up for breastfeeding!

Survey Says:

I returned the tote. While I would have loved to keep the Puella dress, I didn’t want to pay the boutique price for it. I really liked the styling of my tote but the fit issues made me return it. I think also for next time that I would request less dresses. Only because I don’t wear them that often. Now, if I had been feeling dangerous, I could have kept the tote and tried to trade or sell for things I wanted on the GT site (like with the above Gilli dress I could have tried to trade for a medium). But right now I was worried that I wouldn’t have enough time to try to trade or sell so I will keep my eye out for next month.

Anyone else do GT? Are you in the trading group?

Ok, I meant to say this in your last clothing post: holy smokes, you look great! I can’t believe you just had a baby.

That last dress was everything. Bummed that it felt small and you returned the tote, but it looked great on you!

I know she looks fab! Hopefully next month will be more to your liking!

That was a cute tote too I wonder how many people keep their order just for the tote itself *has container issues*

Pnut, yes people collect the totes because they are useful for everything!!

Thanks! I was bummed to return it to. I think I just need to figure out my sizing! Have you ever tried them?

I have tried them, once. Sizing was the issue for me. I’m a true XS, and all their stuff either runs big or isn’t available in XS. Wasn’t there some talk about doing a more lux box with their Puela line? That would be fun to try, especially with summer dresses.

I’m a small but y’all so sometimes I got medium. Sizing can be so random. I got a dress I’m about to review and need to see if I can exchange it. The small doesn’t even cover my rump… Which is fine I guess if I were in my early 20s and drunk walking the vegas strip but … Now? What would my cat think?!?

I want to see your review!! As far as I can tell, they only allow exchanges if they send you the completely wrong item/size. I would think boutique items can be exchanged as well because that’s separate from the totes. Did you look into trading it on the FB page?

I got into the trading group and stalked you guys hahaha I may to a big closet trade or sell. I just kinda wanna make it so that people buy things in bulk if I do sell items so I don’t have to mess around with shipping blah blah.

Did you see the new info out on the Puella Tote?

I think you look great in everything! I’m a newbie to GT and I’m finding the sizing to be difficult too. I bought a couple of dresses on the FB trading group, but so far they have all been too small on me. I guess I’m more of a smedium.

You are 100000% right about the trading page. I legit check Facebook to ONLY see what has been posted. We should compare totes for possible trading since we seem to be about the same size.

Yes. I think the more pro you get at this the more you develop your trading buddies or etc. Also I have really scored with getting peoples left over summer clothing. If you need more to waste your time on then join a group called Box Reveals. It is a GT off shoot group. They do reveals on tons of other clothing boxes out there plus sub boxes.
