Kick Back and Get Comfortable:

Subista was so kind to give me a gift certificate to Home Chef. I must show my cooking skills to everyone. Well you all are in for a surprise! Because I have a hungry hubbie with three growing picky Pnut people (myself included), I need to fashion out our meals to accommodate everyone. So you will likely see on our IN REAL LIFE, one meal serving as planned by Home Chef for my husband and the other serving done Pnut style. I have not seen a review like this so I think it would be a nice perspective on how to stretch meals to feed a family of 2 adults and 3 little Pnut people. Of course, this would not work if my Pnut people were teenagers lol.

Here is a peek of the unboxing of the recipe!

Today was a busy day. Pnut people were wanting my attention.

image
Stalking their momma’s every move in the kitchen.

Even Squeakette had me on her “stalking” mode

image
Squeakette makes a cameo appearance

And when it rains it pours because I had my phone ringing and texting. I tried to appease my older Pnut people with 50% off valentine candy from Walgreens but maybe the sugar made it worse lol. At least it was a cute show all around.

Pipsqueak my fellow chocoholic!
image
Squeak was not sure about this… more for momma and Pipsqueak!

Started by browning the sausage…

image

Brown food tastes good! (Quote from this awesome lady on the Food Network)

I chopped up the mushrooms and garlic…

image

Now we sauté!

image

Opened the can of tomatoes (I always was curious on why Rachel Ray raved about fire-roasted tomatoes). It is ok not worth all the fuss over but if it is the same price as my chopped up canned tomatoes I might reach for some fire-roasted.

image

Is it really fire-roasted or “fire-roasted”?

And maybe I was a bit distracted because I think my sauce thickened and it was hard to make sure that the no-bake lasagna had some moisture. I had to push the noodles down while the dish was baking in the oven so the noodles would not burn from being parched.

image

And the grand finale

image

Verdict:

This was not really a good meal for me. I am not a fan of no-bake lasagna which is not Home Chef’s fault. If the lasagna were regular lasagna noodles, my opinion would be of “awesome sauce” status. There were allot of leftovers. I did not have time to make the garlic bread so I saved that nommy carb for later and tossed some Texas Toast in the oven with the lasagna. In any event, I really like Home Chef in busy instances as this because I did not need to measure anything out as everything was ready for me to prepare!

Pnut, I am glad you’re cooking, even if the no boil pasta wasn’t so great. So, I am going to share my BEST EVER LASAGNA recipe with you! So I made this veggie alfredo lasagna right after the boyfriend and I met, and basically that’s what made him fall in love with me. Food. Haha!

It’s ridiculously good, and you can use whatever veg, plus I always like to throw in ground turkey. You will blow people away. Maybe your children might eat a bite–who knows??

I think that is the biggest heart shape box chocolates I have seen! I love how you are adventurous you are with your cooking 🙂
I wish Home Chef would have more gluten free options.

Thanks AngelaR! I always wanted one the big boxed chocolates that I have seen on Walgreens but I always missed the clearance sales until this year!

I have sent an inquiry to Home Chef for ya…

Here is a cut and pasted response from Home Chef…

Thanks for reaching out! We try to cater to a variety of dietary restrictions, and gluten-free is definitely one of them! Each week we will have at least 3 meals on our menu that are gluten-free. The number can vary since our menu does change on a weekly basis, but this coming week there are actually 7 different items that are gluten-free!

I got this meal from Home Chef and loved it! We had leftovers too but that’s because it was way more than 2 servings. I have no bias against no-bake pasta or any pasta really… I love it all! I’m also super novice at cooking and didn’t have any trouble making this myself. I am loving Home Chef. 🙂

Yes this meal had tons of leftovers. Trust me if I was a fan of no-bake pasta, I would be making lasagna more often! Other than no-bake, I usually do not turn down a noodle.

I am getting three meals next week stay tuned for more reviews 😉
