What You’re Getting:

Organic, sustainable, and local produce whenever possible.

Home Chef is in Chicago where I am so my box does not travel far and I am supporting local businesses!

Kick Back and Get Comfortable:

Subista was so kind to give me a gift certificate to Home Chef. I must show my cooking skills to everyone. Well you all are in for a surprise! Because I have a hungry hubbie with three growing picky Pnut people (myself included), I need to fashion out our meals to accommodate everyone. So you will likely see on our IN REAL LIFE, one meal serving as planned by Home Chef for my husband and the other serving done Pnut style. I have not seen a review like this so I think it would be a nice perspective on how to stretch meals to feed a family of 2 adults and 3 little Pnut people. Of course, this would not work if my Pnut people were teenagers lol.

Here is a peek of the unboxing of the recipe!

Everything laid out for preparation…

Preparing the Ingredients:

I did not want to use the whole apple so I cut up the apple and gave the skin free chunks to my Pnut people who happily munched on them.  Squeak does not like the skin of the apple but she is polite about it.

She eats the apple and then slowly spits out the skin to the floor.

I digress, we love apples here and I had some organic on hand actually so I did a taste test. The Home Chef apple tasted better and fresher!

Digression Notice: See the cutting board? This is a Epicurean brand and this brand is featured in the upcoming Hampton Lanes April box see here. I do not get this box but I just want to vouch for the brand I got really excited and I emailed my Subsista sisters of my cutting board collection. The only thing holding me back from getting the Hampton Lanes box is that I want to get a pizza stone. We should get a pizza stone.

Planning to purchase a pizza stone for over 10 years.

Next I chopped up those brussels sprouts.

image

Here is me mixing up the marinade with the pre-portioned Home Chef stuff.

Yes. Stuff. I am no Food Network chef. I get to say stuff.

image

Tossed a pat of butter on a cast iron pan.

The butter looked better in person (than in the picture). I tell that to my unphotogenic butter all the time.

image
Pipsqueak earning her keep!

Someone likes to paint.

Here child paint this salmon!

image

Frying up the salmon. I had no clue why Home Chef wanted to fry one side but not both. Maybe it was better for plating since some peeps would have the salmon fall apart? Anyway, I like to flip both physically and psychologically so I flipped the salmon.

image

Salmon meet your partner in noms.

And in the oven they went… with a splash of pecans for good measure.

image
VOILA!

VERDICT:

Another nommy meal with Home Chef! No leftovers. The wee ones ate much of the salmon, happily munched on their quarter of the apple, and sampled brussel sprouts and pecans.

We loved this maple-miso salmon dish! All their seafood (meat too) is so fresh & yummy! I just made the Salmon-feta from Home Chef last night – delicious!

I think the best thing about Home Chef is they have spectacular protein vendors! I think they also increased portion sizes my last box everything looked bigger…

Oh, this looks tasty! I get WAY too much salmon on the west coast [complaint-ish] because my inlaws catch a ton of fish in the summer. I don’t think I’d ever had salmon [surprise, I lived in the midwest for 22 years] before moving here, and now I’ve had lots of weird and gross fish. Although, I do like me some smoked salmon. Mmm. Food.

Also the comment on the daughter who slowly, politely spits apple peel onto the floor made me laugh =) Children are tiny drunk humans.

*jelly* I would love to eat fresh salmon tons! My eldest loves salmon cooked, smoked, canned, and salmon roe! I would love to eat salmon sushi!

Have you ever had butter fish? That is my favorite.

I only ever get tuna sushi. I’ve never tried butter fish. Where would I find that?

Filipino or Some chinese restaurants. It’s usually deep fried and has a mild flavor!

I love super white tuna sushi! I like regular tuna sushi spicy for some weird reason.
