Birchbox Subscription Curated Box Review (Naturally Radiant) – May 2016

Subscription: Birchbox

Cost:

Monthly $10.00

Yearly: $110.00 (you get one month free)!

What To Expect:

At least 5 items allegedly based on a profile. Sometimes you get lucky and can get 6 or 7 items. Review each item for 10 points each. Every 100 points equals $10! I hoard my points and then attempt to use codes when something strikes my fancy. My first year with Birchbox I saved up all my points and bought a Clarisonic Mia!!! I think I got it for a few bucks after points and a code!

Sit Down and Get Comfortable:

This curated box is themed “Naturally Radiant”!

Translation: The sun is coming out so put on some bronzer, a nude lippy, and spray on some sunscreen setting spray to hold it from melting off your face. Now its getting hot and you are getting sweaty so take this perfume sample that smells of “clean”. Oh perfume isn’t going to cut it? Here douse your hair with a ton of shampoo with a foil conditioner chaser!

Here is the OK looking box. It is not offensive (I do get offended by boxes) but it is not very pretty in my opinion. The box itself is going to my giveaway pile where I will likely fill it up with goodies and give the box away just because.

Because.I.AM.AWESOME.

Here is the front of the information card.

First item is…

CLEAN Blossom Eau de Parfum

CLEAN Blossom Eau de Parfum

Smells CLEAN. heh. Clean as can be as a mix of Tunisian neroli, orange blossom, and sensual sandalwood.

At least the perfume sample was in spray form. Perfume samples should only be in spray and/or miniature form.

I swear if Birchbox does the same “extra bonus sample is always a perfume” marketing ploy like Sephora I will cough up a hairball. And I have no fur babies.

Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer

Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer

I have Benefit Hoola in a palette and I use it under my cheeks to contour. I have a friend that uses it all over her skin and she looks great! If I did that I would look muddy. If someone was venturing out into the world of bronzers, I would recommend this one as it is very forgiving and would work on the majority of skin tones.

ModelCo Lip Laquer in Creme Brulee

ModelCo Lip Laquer in Creme Brulee

I am sorry this lippy is not happening. I do not look good when my lips look nakedy nude. I may have made up that word nakedy. I can not even use it on top or on bottom or in between any other lip product to make it look better.

I can only pull off real nude, not faux nude.

COOLA® SPF 30 Organic Makeup Setting Spray

COOLA® SPF 30 Organic Makeup Setting Spray

I think 2016 is the year of spraying sprays into ma face. I received a ton of face mists for my face from subscription boxes after I bought two (isn’t it funny how subscription boxes do that) and now I have a little army of face mists and makeup setting sprays.

Anyway, I like this Coola makeup setting spray and it receives bonus points for sunscreen.

I love anything Coola. I know some peeps don’t but it’s Cooooollll(ah).

Davines LOVE Smoothing Shampoo

Davines LOVE Smoothing Shampoo

This is my second time receiving Davines LOVE Smoothing Shampoo from Birchbox. I am in love on the size of this generous sample. Birchbox needs to step up to the plate and work on getting bigger samples and glorious full sizes for us!

It would be awesome if this Davines conditioner was a larger sample like its shampoo mate. I remember that it worked but was nothing special requiring re-purchase.

Birchbox Subscription Curated Box (Naturally Radiant) – May 2016

Verdict:

As a person who loves spoilers, I love this curated box. Two items (perfume and lip gloss) will be gifted away, I needed shampoo and the conditioner is a nice bonus, I love the Hoola bronzer and anything Coola!

Guess what I am getting in June? The curated box!

I have tons of face sprays but I’ve never tried the Coola (I don’t think. I have so many that I get confused.). Does it make your hair feel crunchy or dry? Every setting spray I’ve tried makes my hair feel weird. I try to only spray it on my face, but because I’m me, I always get it in my hair.

I always have my hair in a ponytail or half-up with a little Snooki Jersey bump so no crunchy/dry hair with me. At least your hair will be getting some sunscreen 😉

I got the Coola last year – really wanted it because it’s sunscreen but the sprayer wouldn’t spray. I reached out to Birchbox and they sent me another – it worked once or twice and then… no spray. I tried cleaning the sprayer by soaking in warm water and using a toothpick to make sure no gunk build-up… but that sprayer on the samples is just crappy & cheap – I noticed many similar comments in the reviews (at the time). Since I have 2, I think I’m going to combine them into a good sprayer I have from DermaE, once I finish up the stuff that’s in it.
Yes Susie, it gets in my hair too if my hair isn’t pulled back!

Tried and true methods to make a pump pump! Try a bit of Dawn or something to cut into the oils if you have not given up. Good idea decanting into a better sprayer!
