Organic, sustainable, and local produce whenever possible.

Kick Back and Get Comfortable:

Subista was so kind to give me a gift certificate to Home Chef. Now I am addicted. Picky but addicted. I am choosy on which weeks I want to get a delivery. I also have to plan in advance not to go food shopping the weekend before (so I have to load up on fruit two weeks before).

The stars have aligned and we got a box…

This is a recipe review of

Brazilian Flat Iron Steak with Tomato Rice and Marinated Zucchini

image

Home Chef sends a recipe sheet so you can add to your Home Chef binder that you receive in your first shipment. The layout once vertical, has gone horizontal. The front page shows a Pinterest worthy picture and items that are provided in your shipment with a list of items you need from your kitchen.

image

The back side gives recipe instructions and pictures to follow. I kinda like the heads up section on the left as its more of if you don’t read recipes directions read this to save time!

Here are the items straight out of the box!

And here is another picture with the component bag opened…

image

Ok here I go with my drink of somewhat-choice (mother’s milk tea) and my trusty cutting board from last year’s PopSugar’s box as I prepped the components for the recipe.

image

I saved a tomato, cucumber and half of a lemon for later!

image

Marinating the zucchini.

image

Chopping tomatoes.

image

Frying up the zucchini and making the Brazilian rice in my beloved ramen pot from my childhood that I would not give up!

image

Mmmmmm…. Marinated steak.

Check out that marbling!

image

Too lazy to get another pan to clean, I make some room in the pan for the steak!

image

Flip them over like a meaty flapjack… or something.

image

TADAAAAA!!!

image

I used my CB2 appetizer bowl to mold the rice into a pyramid shape.

image

Verdict:

The steak was awesome. I loved the Brazilian rice and I really need to venture into making rice with more than chicken stock if I am being fancy. I love zucchini which is a good thing if I am lucky and my zucchini starts to grow in my garden. My zucchini seedling is pretty pissed off after transplant but I think its getting over it and moving on to grow. I digress.

Everything was very yummy and I highly recommend you picking this recipe when it is an option!

Good job! Now, make me a veggie steak and have it taste real! 😉

Thanks! The best I can do are TJ’s vegetarian meatless meatballs? I am not sure whether I told this tale before but I can re-hash it. For a few potlock events, sometimes we would put TJ’s meatless meatballs mixed with TJ meatballs (meat or turkey both are good) mixed with wait formit … TJ BBQ sauce in the slowcooker. We called this creation “Mystery Meatballs” and I kid you not, hardly anyone could tell the difference!

LOL! You would come up with something inventive like that!!!!

Hooray. It makes my heart happy to hear you are eating vegetables!!

You will be happier that I am eating my greens now with the garden. I can’t quite eat raw foilage but wilted with a little water and butter and nom nom nom! It’s amazing I think I would not have any greens and the next day foilage regenerates like a role playing console game to forage!

My zuchinni is looking less pissed off finally. She’s a black beauty or something like that old show with the pretty horsey in the 80s…

Have the girls talk to the zucchini seedling. Zucchini and all other cucuberits hate to travel. In other words, they hate being translated. which is why it is pissed. Sometimes they recover and sometimes they don’t. I think with a little TLC it will recover.

I love reading the food reviews!

Ahhh this explains why my cucumbers are tantruming as well. My zuchinnis are getting over themselves. I will have the girls talk and sing to them when they visit the fairy garden! Thank you for your kind words as always!
