popsugar must have may 2016

Amusingly, I copied the text from the last time I wrote a PSMH review, which was in December right after I got my first sub to this box! Now we’ve come full circle to the end of all four of your Subscriptionista bloggers’ 6 month subs, and as of Wednesday I believe myself and Subista are still holding out

I’ll cave in a few minutes.

Are you resubbing? Make sure you use their codes for a discount! Please note you will be getting a duplicate non-refundable May box if you already subbed after Black Friday.

May box inspiration: hydration, yoga, deep breaths, fitness, relaxation, health.

There is a promise of Fashion, Beauty, and Home, so let’s take a peep at what fits into these areas!

HOME

gaiam yoga mat

Gaiam Foldable Yoga Mat: $24.98.

How nice! A nap mat for my tiny kitty! My other Gaiam Pilates mat currently catches all the dust in the corner of the tv room. Kidding aside, this was a really nice inclusion and a great reminder to exercise!

breathe deeply

Happy Spritz Breathe Deeply Spray: $25. “A crisp, minty + refreshing mix of pure peppermint + eucalyptus + 100% pure essential oils.”

This is great for keeping at work [next to your stabbing utensil] and liberally spraying before/after interactions with certain coworkers or supervisors, using in the car to prevent road rage, or just spraying on yourself as you take a nap meditate on your Gaiam yoga mat.

BEAUTY

foot therapy succulent foot mask
pic from Subista

Kocostar Foot Therapy: $10. “Formulated with 33 botanical essences – including dandelion, rosemary and thyme – this foot exfoliant softens calluses and hydrates skin that is often neglected by your daily moisturizing regimen.”

Side effects may include foot leprosy.

spongelle body buffer

Spongelle Body Buffer in Milk and Honey: $20. “Designed to exfoliate, massage and help stimulate circulation.”

Smells nice! Can’t wait to get buffed in the buff! Plus this one smells WAY better than the one FFF sent last summer. Much more subtle.

Subtle and soft like my skin shall soon be!

FASHION

bluma project bracelets
Hello subscription box loves! We meet again.

Bluma Project Capri Bracelets [set of 2]: $44. “Delicate beaded stretch bracelets with a fun tassel.”

These sell for $25 each on the Bluma website, which is a pretty high price for seed bead bracelets. They’re nice, but I could string one up in less than twenty minutes, so I’m curious what the overhead costs of this outreach company are… Though for the pricing on the wrap bracelets [$80] they must be trying to compete with big jewelry because their twice wrap bracelets are comparable to Chan Luu pricing [$90]!

I made Mailbox Junkie a wrap bracelet, and I just want you all to know the retail value was obviously at least $120! Hers has little charms =)

Bella shows me how she REALLY feels about me staying up past her bedtime!

FOOD

jimmybar

Jimmybar! Peanut Butter Clutter Clean Snack Bar: $2.49.

This was tasty and soft, and I really appreciated how low sugar it tasted. Usually I’m overwhelmed by how durn sweet snack bars are!

Subista had to send me a picture of the wrapped bar because I for some reason didn’t take one of the front before slamming this in my gob.

Special Extra

Hint caffeine kick

Hint Kick Lemon Cayenne Infused Water: $1.69.

I liked this! The lemon cayenne was subtle. I didn’t notice too much of a change in my energy, though I wasn’t falling asleep at work this afternoon so I suppose it helped! I’m glad they sent the flavor I’d be less likely to pick.

Oh, and even with $3 shipping, a 12 pack of this stuff is still cheaper than buying on Amazon, plus they give you a $5 coupon when you visit their website.

half hitch goods giftcard
Bella is a great meow-del!

Half Hitch Goods: $10 gift card.

This was an odd inclusion. Most items are not really in my price range, and they have a very limited product selection.

Revlon mascara

Revlon Volume + Length Magnified Mascara: $8.99.

Ohh… my second black mascara this month. I really think I need to start just layering mascara like a crazy person.

CAN YOU SEE MY LASHES NOW!? What if bliiiiink reeeaaallllyyy sloooowwww!!??!

Verdict: So, around a $137 value [coupons excluded]. Pretty awesome for a $27-39.95 box! I thought the curation was great, but it’s weird that the value of the seed bead bracelets was so high, and actually the most expensive item in the box. The box fit well with their exercise and pamper-yourself theme, and I definitely don’t mind getting those sorts of items! Looking at all the items though, I liked the bracelets and anxiety spray the most.

What did you think? Are you [re]subscribing?? Let us know!

I love everything in this box! I’ve been spending ALL OF THE MONEY lately, so what difference would a 6 month sub make, right? So, I subbed.

    • May 25, 2016 at 10:38 am

Yay Artemis! I’ve been looking at starting other subs, do you have some favorites you recommend?

I love those bracelets and yes they look fab next to the one you made me. Picture pending… I do think it is extremely odd about the retail value. Watching Bella in your flipgram makes me think of Gunnar….. hmmm this is a peaceful space right now….ah yes, let me cause some ruckus!!

I’ve been splurging on the sub boxes lately and this one made me re-sub to PopSugar. I’m taking the spray and yoga mat to work so I can shut my office door and “try” to find inner peace in the middle of the day. (Wish me luck.) I’m going to try the foot thingie this weekend and really like the rest of it, except the water. I got a blackberry flavor which I should have loved but actually loathed. Oh well.

I just bit the bullet and ordered LuxorBox and the CozyReader box.

    • May 26, 2016 at 1:47 pm

CeciliaA, I was going to bring my yoga mat to work, but the place I am hopefully starting at in a month has a gym so I’ll actually get to exercise on it in addition to stretching and finding inner peace [good luck finding yours too!] =D The spray I huff driving to work, at work, and driving home.

Ohh! Please let me know what you think about the CozyReader box! I need a bookbox that sends adult woman things but with YA books. Like, a librarian box… a nice magazine, some crafty supply, tea, socks, and a YA book.

CeciliaA, those are both boxes that I LOVE reading about and have been wanting for months… alas, I just can’t justify them in the budget. But I’m sure you’ll love them – congrats!! 🙂

    • May 27, 2016 at 11:43 pm

Good choices!! I feel like Luxor Box is a home run. I haven’t seen them put out a box that isn’t worth the value. They are one of the only boxes I feel like that stalk sub box blogs and actually listen to what people want!! In Nov and Dec of last year people were going on and on about throws and they were one of the only boxes to send one! Also same deal with the 1951 clutches.

I’ve been so good about canceling boxes, but I just resubscribed to this! I used the blue link at the beginning of your review. Was that the right one? I don’t yoga, but I repurpose the mats. I have severe scar tissue in my back and standing at my countertop cutting veggies, prepping dinner, etc is always painful. So I stack my yoga mats and stand on those. No more sore back and they clean up so easily! I suppose I’m not getting the true health benefits from the mats though…..but I’m happy to be able to stand for awhile with no pain

    • May 31, 2016 at 12:07 pm

Yep, thanks Susie! I think that’s a brilliant way to use the yoga mat! I am getting a duplicate May box since I resubbed, and was going to send the box to my mom [sans bracelets she won’t wear], and I think I’ll suggest standing on the mat to her. She’s got arthritis in her feet, and I think she might like that idea.

YO HEADS UP ON THAT FOOD WRAP. They make your feet peel in SHEETS. I had no idea. Used it, was like eh, it didn’t do anything. 6 days later, my skin was falling off! IN SANDALS. IN A SALES PRESENTATION. I was leaving trails of dead skin, y’all. Meanwhile, my feet were freaky soft after, but durn. Warn a girl.

    • May 27, 2016 at 9:26 am

*foot. Not food. It’s lunch time.

      • May 27, 2016 at 5:28 pm

Nice. I emailed my Subista Sistas when Onderria was going to do the review that I was putting on the foot mask that night. Two days later I like sent like a dozen emails within a 24 hour timeframe

Onderria did you try the foot mask? Did anyone try the foot mask? Can someone read the directions I did not think this was a baby foot peel. WTF I AM MOLTING!!! I took a foot soak. I took and back-to-back foot soak. Ma feets are onion peels. I think its over. Now the tops are peeling. Just in time for the holiday weekend :/

        I feel ya misslindsayleigh.

    • May 27, 2016 at 11:39 pm

Ok so did the foot mask with the hopes of these epic results you guys speak of and nada….no dice… like calluses still extremely intact

lol I am picturing everybody’s foot peeling off!! I want to try it though I have serious dry skin on my feet and despite loofah-ing and pumice-ing too!

    • May 28, 2016 at 2:49 pm

DO IT DO IT DO IT!!! That has been my motto lately.

If you are already have dry skin what’s more layers of skin peeling off??? Just wear socks and take bath soaks with a pumice stone to peel it off if you get freaked out by peeling your skin off (I get freaked out so the pumice stone helped and made the peeling faster). I wish I could be near a pedicure place where you put your feet in a large pool while little fish tickle your feet eating all the dead skin they would seriously go to town!!!

    • May 31, 2016 at 12:11 pm

Laura I am terrified, disgusted, and intrigued! Pnut and Misslinsayleigh’s comments make me worried but want to try it… let us know if you do! Mailbox Junkie didn’t have any effects though. My boyfriend was just mesmerized by this molting foot picture my sister sent us. Then he asked if he could use my wrap! He’s got ridiculously soft feet though, and I was a barefoot child [dry adult feet] so I will probably just use it.

      • May 31, 2016 at 12:17 pm

Do it do it do it! I swear Mailbox Junkie will get succulent feet! My left foot is almost done molting my ankles are peeling at bit and the tops of my right foot are still peeling bit.

Don’t post the picture lol I am sure it was revolting/facinating though.

  7. May 28, 2016 at 2:39 pm

Ok… I’m so intrigued by the comments of the foot mask. I am wearing the mask right now. But, if I’m honest, I’m partly wearing it because I get to sit and read for and hour and a half. I told my husband that standing or walking would ruin the effects!

    • May 28, 2016 at 2:51 pm

Very smart Susie I should have done that! I put mine on when I went to bed and put a timer on. Thank you for joining the Maui Onion club. Please report back in a few days 😉

I have achieved foot leprosy! Not quite 48 hours after applying the foot mask the skin on my entire heel pealed off in one giant piece. This is both disgusting and satisfying at the same time. (I should probably admit that I have worked as a horse vet in the past and have said the same thing about abscesses.)

I was picturing thin flaking and sloughing in my mind not this massive loss of the outer layer of my epidermis.

    I shall have succulent feet!

    • May 31, 2016 at 6:43 pm

Yea for succulent feet! I am almost done molting.
