Sparking Joy Series: What Subscription Box Item(s) Brings You Joy Right Now?

I created a Sparking Joy series to open discussion on what subscription box item(s) are bringing you joy right now. For our new readers, I got this idea from a previous discussion here regarding the KonMari Method of organization which basically is keeping what “Sparks Joy” in your life and discarding what doesn’t.

So instead of one item this post, I have multiples of a particular item type received in subscription and/or Limited Edition boxes.

What is Sparking Joy for me now is…

My Current Sparking Joys!!!

Pain In The Ass (PIA) Hand Creams/Cremes!

Reverse marketing is genius. If you read my latest posts and comments, I hilariously “market” items using reverse marketing. I have not even googled reverse marketing so if it does not exist it is because I created it and will now be making millions off it. I just googled “reverse marketing” and it is nowhere close to my made up definition of it. According to the genius that is Pnut, If you make something difficult but still intriguing, there will be customers.

So in this case we have companies create a hand cream and/or creme in where the application is

(1) either squeeze the whole container to get a bit

or

(2) squeeze gently or else the whole product will projectile vomit on the customer

Customers will buy it!

Hence, put PIA Hand Creams in subscription boxes and customers will go gaga (or nuts, or both).

I added a so-called highlighter stick for variety. I hardly see the shimmer but I love the smell I just need to scrap a bit off and let it melt as I apply. It is such a PIA but I love it for the smell. The one on the left is a PIA to squeeze out but again I love the scent. The others are of the delicate variety and I am constantly having to apply all over common dry spots past my hands because I squeeze too much or somehow managed to bend the tube, causing an overflow as soon as I open the tube. My favorite is Crabtree & Evelyn’s La Source. These tubes that promise magical succulent hands “Spark Joy” to me so much that I am willing to make an exception for parabens and other like ingredients.

On the other hand (heh), I have succulent hands, elbows and knees.

Below with the exception are the first offenders that caused my obsession with tube hand creams. This was a post of nearly empties submitted to Mailbox Junkie for her Saturday trash post. I think the goats were in collusion in regards to the addition of having hand cream/cremes submitted slowly into subscription and limited edition boxes.

I am still mourning the emptiness of the Cream Cremes and the discontinued Davines RIP.

I wonder if there is a reason to this madness. Do the best hand creams need to be in a PIA tube form? Why cannot they be in an awesome airless pump form where you happily pump and you get.all.the.cream.goodness.out? And why has this obsession with tubes have me put away my stash of creams in tub form!?! Like I am obsessed with being a wee frustrated with the tubes even though I can have the luxury of scooping out moisturizing goodness in pot form and slapping it on dry spots. It’s 2016 for crying outloud!

Wow, my hand creams are virgins, sitting in a drawer. Hmm, my coffee subscriptions to Blue Bottle and Driftaway spark joy. You spark joy in me, thank you Pnut phabulous.

In this past year I’ve discovered tubes that are a PITA to open often come with a hole poking device on the cap. Even last week McBoyfriend had to remind me of this. Definitely a joy sparkler not having to wander around looking for a foil stabbing instrument! Not that I EVER threw a cream/creme across the room in frustration before discovering this… I’m am adult, after all.

Yes the real PIAssers begins with the promise of cream erupting out from poking itself with its own devices!

This is hilarious because my favorite hand creme is the Simpatico ambergris one from popsugar. It’s in a metal tube and i thought i would be smart and use a tool to flatten the tube but accidentally tore it open and then had to store it in a Ziplock! Haha. BTW am I the only one that doesnt believe the “toning lotions” actually tone anything? ?

    • May 12, 2016 at 6:35 pm

Omg I never knew it was called Ambergris! That makes sense now that it had a whale on it!!

Ahhh I broke the seal of a tube that way using a tool (the toothpaste rolling thinge) because I really wanted to make it flat. I was fascinated by the flattening and I took it too far. I guess one cannot be a PIA to a PIA tube!

The toning lotions bit sounds like a coffee tawk discussion: Toning lotions neither tone nor lotion. Discuss!!!
(Probably tones for that one second when your face is like WT what was that!?! Ok it went away. *relaxes*)

Little sample bottles of lotion or shampoo/conditioner that are IMPOSSIBLE to squeeze. I’ve gotten a few of these and liked the products they contained, but how the heck am I supposed to get anything out of them?! I’m not sure that they spark anything but frustration though. Lol

    • May 19, 2016 at 8:20 am

I get you LC! I used to cut open and/or add water but then I got frustrated lol. So if its really good stuff I will use all of it like a determined frustrator!
