Sunday Morning Coffee Talk-Coffee, Tea or neither?

ct3

I have always been a coffee addict. I blame my parents for my coffee addiction (and other things). It started when I was 16 and they took me to Italy. It was all downhill from there.

coffee1

My morning ritual involves opening one eye. Proceeding to my Nespresso machine and pressing a button and waiting…… I take my coffee with cream.

Here at Subscriptionista, we recognize that not all people share our opinions or our breakfast beverage preference……

So this week we want to know: What is your morning beverage?

ct4

Is it coffee? Is it tea? Is it Monster Energy Drink? Is it good old fashion Coca Cola ( my go-to hangover cure)?

I tried drinking Monster Energy Drink when I worked nights at the hospital. It almost ended in me hooking myself up to the heart monitor.

Tea is a day and nighttime thing for me. I’m deeply into tea as a means to curb my HG Wells like drinking. So yea gives me that relaxing feeling as I try to slim…

Ugh can I use this space to bitch about the fact that I accidentally ordered a blue apron for this week and my bear is getting a Sun basket???

Also I like French press coffee the best!

    • May 1, 2016 at 8:10 am

Yes this is an approved bitching space. I will lament that I opted out of bespoke post last month and somehow they still shipped/billed me a box. Grrrr…they will take it back but first I have to mail it back. Sounds easy right? Nope. It takes like literally 6-8 weeks for it to get here and then 6-8 weeks to get back to them. I would keep it cuz there stuff is usually awesome or giftable but it is the tie box…………..No one I know wears ties….
Sounds like you are going to need to have a dinner party with all your noms!!

      • May 1, 2016 at 9:55 am

Ha! Come on over and eat food I cook, cat hair included! I think someone is going to be stuck eating a lot of big lunches!

  2. May 1, 2016 at 8:06 am

We should do a hangover cure post. Mine is Sprite and French fries. It will cure you. Also a bag of fluids but not everyone is going to go do that …

    • May 1, 2016 at 8:16 am

I like that idea. When I lived in So-Cal (which ironically is when most of my hangovers occured) I had to have Del Taco!

      • May 1, 2016 at 9:53 am

Back in my younger days I would get wild and really have a good time. One morning I woke up on my friends couch with del taco wrappers on me. I guess the night before I had ordered a TON and ate it ALL before bed. I woke up feeling pretty good but bloated.

        • May 1, 2016 at 12:14 pm

I think we should reenact this scene and photograph it

          • May 1, 2016 at 2:45 pm

I had to look at the receipt to understand how much I actually ate! It was insane!

McDonalds sausage, egg & cheese biscuit! I only eat them when I’m hungover and they help every time.

      • May 1, 2016 at 10:43 am

I believe that! I truly believe McDonald’s has some ability to help heal the hangover. What I don’t eat for a bad hangover is Pizza. It always is a bad idea.

      • May 1, 2016 at 2:15 pm

Yum Heat! For some reason my husband and I would only get this when we were in the airport. We have not been in ages. Maybe now breakfast is on the day menu I will nom one up instead of nuggets.

I am all about the tea, morning and night. I love trying a different kind every day, and usually sweeten it with agave nectar (the vegan honey). I do like coffee when I’m out though..especially with dessert.

And yes to Del Taco for hangovers!

    • May 1, 2016 at 12:21 pm

Oo what a fun ritual to switch up your flavors. What are some of your favorites?
Something about Del Taco fries (maybe the crinkle cut)? Healing properties!

        May 1, 2016 at 12:40 pm

Haha, I like your phrasing… “fun ritual” sounds so much better than “open the cupboard and grab the first bag”! Yogi tea has this dandelion spice blend that is delicious! I also pretty much love any kind of chai.

And yes, the fries are magical. It’s like, my brain knows they only vaguely resemble potatoes and were heated from frozen, but my body says “Shut up and feed me greasy salt!” And I can’t argue with that logic.

        • May 1, 2016 at 12:48 pm

oh chai…yum. I love to put espresso in my chai. I once read an article that said grease doesn’t really help a hangover and that you should eat vegetables instead. Yep, I laughed for hours after that. Hmmm I am hungover, someone please pass me a salad…said no one ever!

In the morning I drink water. I drink tea from time to time.

    • May 1, 2016 at 12:22 pm

I have been forcing myself lately to drink one huge big glass of water prior to the coffee!
Alright is your water hot, cold or room temp? My hubby has to drink his water at room temp every am

      • Farmcat
        May 1, 2016 at 12:51 pm

Most of the time it is around room temperature. But summer time I prefer it cold. I use to drink soda and coffee all the time and not enough water. Now I mostly drink water. I’m thinking about getting Stonewall Kitchen’s Mason Jar Pitcher. Or something like that maybe a little smaller. I would filI it up with water and some cut up fruit.

        • May 1, 2016 at 12:59 pm

That sounds delightful. I call fruit infused water spa water. I have a lemon tree so I do fruit in my water a lot and it makes me feel fancy

Four shots of espresso straight up while I check FB and subscription box blogs and hang out with my cat (4:30 AM!). Then some Pukka detox tea at 9:00 and water the rest of the day. If for some reason the first 4 shots don’t perk me up, I am may repeat with a triple at Starbucks on my way to work.

On another note are you excited about May Beauty Heroes? I am! Mine should be here tomorrow!

    • May 1, 2016 at 12:19 pm

4 shots, yes! What kind of maker do you have? We need to see this cat!
BH-Omg yes! I got mine yesterday!!! I totally thought of you because I am seriously contemplating ordering another box. The only thing I am unsure if it will keep. The label says use by 9/16 and I don’t think I will go through both by then….decisions decisions….

        May 1, 2016 at 1:16 pm

My maker is a Breville, I love it. My cat boy is James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree – Jim for short. How do I post a picture?

        • May 1, 2016 at 1:23 pm

LOL! I love that name!! I dont think you can post a pic unless it is a link. But it is giving me a great idea…..We need a post on all of the loving pets who follow this blog!! email me a pic: mailboxjunkie808gmail dot com. I think I am going to compile pics for next week!!

  6. May 1, 2016 at 9:14 am

I have never liked coffee. And it’s only been since I started my subscription addiction that I discovered I like hot tea! Now I drink Irish Breakfast tea in the mornings and Italian Chamomile at night. In between, well, I have sophisticated tastes. It’s Dr Pepper and sweet iced tea all day. And I kinda miss those hangover days! Maybe I should see if my husband wants to hit up Billy Bob’s. They have banned smoking in there, so we can dance without choking! Anyway, for hangovers, we always used to hit up Whataburger for breakfast burritos. Grease on top of booze….

    • May 1, 2016 at 12:25 pm

I love Irish Breakfast! so yummy
Dr Pepper!! Yum it is a runner up hangover cure.
During both pregnancies I had to drink ice tea everyday. It was my only craving. Weird huh?! I wonder it was about tea that my body needed.

I want to like coffee and tea (especially tea since it’s so good for you!), but sadly I can’t stand taste of either one no matter how I try. πŸ™

Like Farmcat, I drink water more than anything. Like Susie, I love Dr. Pepper! But I rarely drink it… And then red wine with dinner a couple times per week. πŸ™‚

    • May 1, 2016 at 12:28 pm

Ok so what about you…Do you care about the water temp? My hubby is so particular when he wakes up and will only drink room temp water!
I feel the same way you do about coffee and tea about scotch. No matter how many times I try it I think it tastes like licking the ground…. (even the expensive stuff my brother drinks)

        May 1, 2016 at 6:20 pm

I drink both room temp and cold water. More often room temp but I’m not picky.

I drink a lot of water and always have a water bottle near me. At work I make a pot of various white or random tea, and have little cups throughout the morning.

I don’t consciously consume caffeine because I happen to not like anything that contains caffeine! The smell of coffee makes me gag, black and green teas aren’t my favorite, and I don’t like energy drinks. I also only happen to like Sprite/7up, ginger ale, cream soda, and root beer. But I rarely drink soda, and I think root beer is the only one that might contain caffeine.

As for a hangover, if I don’t spend the morning lying in bed regretting drinking like yesterday, then I do vitamin water, or lots of water, ibuprofen, and a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit from Jack in the Box or Burger King.

    • May 1, 2016 at 12:39 pm

Ah yes the wonderment of Vitamin Water…I swear by that stuff when I get sick. The minute I feel a cold coming on I get a Power-C and some Tom Yum Gha soup from this that place by my house.
I think the fact that you don’t have a caffeine addiction is awesome. Also Root beer is caffeine free!!

Yay for water! During the day I am a water hog. I teach high school, and I drink 2 32 oz bottles each work day. I try to set a good example, so my students never see me drink soda in the classroom. However, after lunch they do see me race to the bathroom, as all that water is hard to hold onto! I also keep a carton of bottled water in my classroom for them, as so few have access to good water throughout the day (drinking fountain water is gross).

      • May 1, 2016 at 2:20 pm

That’s awesome, Erin! I always liked subbing in classrooms where teachers had thoughtful little things like that. It drove me nuts in elementary rooms how most teachers don’t have the kids in the habit of washing their hands at all. Ugh. I’m an over-handwasher though…

Coffee. Coffee all the time. Coffee instead of tea, cocoa, soda, even water. Coffee. Dear sweet nectar of the Gods.

I always buy tea because the flavors always look so interesting, but it never get used.

    • May 1, 2016 at 12:50 pm

Ah yes…you and I understand each completely. I also have a cupboard full of tea…
Did you see the info on the Puella tote?
I am intrigued but the pants they are advertising that may be in the tote look so weird to me (or maybe it is that I think they will look weird on me)….

        May 1, 2016 at 6:25 pm

No, I haven’t seen anything on the Puella tote and I can’t find anything about it either! I wanna see,

        • May 1, 2016 at 10:31 pm

Check their FB. THey said they updated the deats over there or the trading group had a post. It is going to be 2 dresses, 1 shirt and 1 pant per box. They said we will have a solid idea of what will be inside pre-order

As a narcoleptic, I have an odd relationship to stimulant beverages. I actually worked at Starbucks for just shy of 6 years, but only the last 4 months were after my narcolepsy diagnosis. I was never a HUGE fan of coffee, but I definitely joined in on the espresso shot-taking fun. When I was in England I had a Diet Coke problem, but it didn’t follow me back to the USA because I don’t like American Diet Coke as much as British. Hard to explain unless you’ve tried them both. I also have interstitial cystitis, so caffeine and acidity actually leave me in a lot of pain. I still grab a caffinated soda when things get bad and suffer the consequences, but usually I just reach for my prescribed stimulant (adderall). It doesn’t do a whole lot, but it’s better than nothing.

Unrelated: remember me talking about my beautiful cousin who recently died from cancer? In February of this year she actually won the Irish Brewer’s Cup! It is a coffee competition. So for that short period of time before she died, she was the best barista in Ireland! The Irish coffee community and several international high-end coffee companies (like an espresso machine company) rallied around her and raised a lot of money that they initially hoped would be used to move her to a more advanced treatment facility. However, her condition worsened too fast for that and the money was used to fly her immediate family to Ireland to say goodbye.

    • May 1, 2016 at 1:19 pm

Oh my goodness! The best brewer in Ireland that is so cool!! Was it espresso making? Was she an American living in Ireland?

I worked at Starbucks too! Back before they had food and three thousand flavors of frappacino. When I worked there you still had to pull the espresso shots by hand.
I think Mexico has the best tasting Coca Cola. I think in Europe they use a different sweetener for the diet coke. I forget what it is.
I had to read up on interstitial cystitis. It sounds awful. Does it affect your riding?

      • May 1, 2016 at 2:45 pm

The competition was for coffee blends and cupping, I think, but it might have had an espresso component. I know she did espresso stuff too! She was an American. Had met an Irish man in the USA and moved over there to marry him. Very romantic!

You worked at Starbucks during the golden era! I’m quite jealous.

The IC does make it so that I can’t ride sometimes. Have you ever had a urinary tract infection? It’s like that, but worse. It’s pressure and pain, and the constant “omg gotta pee gotta pee”…but you don’t actually have to pee. And then sometimes, for various reasons that I and doctors don’t quite understand, you’ll start retaining. So you actually do have a full bladder and you stress and strain and it only dribbles a bit. I have been cathetered (is that the right spelling?) at the urologist’s office more times in one month than most people will experience in their lifetime.

        • May 1, 2016 at 4:15 pm

geez I can’t imagine the stress that causes. Have they taught you to self cath?

          • May 1, 2016 at 5:22 pm

Nope, because I’m a wuss and it scares me lol.

  11. May 1, 2016 at 2:20 pm

Coffee (prefer instant most of the time is lazy and doesn’t care). My parent’s drank instant so maybe its genetic.
I love flowering teas but Mother’s Milk Tea is my tea of the moment.
Ice cold water. It’s not supposed to be good for the body (something about shocking it) but I love it. I use water cooler water to fill a large POM plastic bottle. Must be the balls.

Coffee, coffee and more coffee for me. With cream. We use a French Press like Subscriptionista and it is one of the best ways to have it, but I am jealous of that Nespresso machine! We buy our beans whole, so grinding them every morning is an extra step I have to do while groggy. I’m constantly forgetting to that they need to be ground first and pour them into the carafe whole. Never try to grind beans while asleep.

    • May 1, 2016 at 10:34 pm

bwwaahhh! Grinding beans reminds me of painting with a glass of wine….You know you are having a good night when you put your paint brush in the wine glass. So I waited for a year on the nespresso (I got it as a present but my mom got it for $139 at christmas at macy’s). It is amazing. The only thing I miss is the whole ritual of grinding beans and etc. Plus I looove Philz coffee out of San Fran so I miss that because they only have a few variations in the pods

Nice! Painting with wine sounds like so much fun. Do they use non-toxic paint in case somebody does actually put their brush in their wine like you say? Wouldn’t want to waste a full glass, after all!
