Ake’s Trash:

05-31 Ake empties 2

Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence: I know it’s important to wear sunscreen but ugh! I hate that sticky feeling! Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is a Japanese sunscreen that doesn’t feel that way. Hurrah! It feels very thin and light going on, and when it dries down it doesn’t feel like anything at all. Perfect! The alcohol does make it a bit drying, but I can just layer up on my moisturizers.
Coola Sport Classic Sunscreen Moisturizer – Fresh Mango: The Biore sunscreen isn’t waterproof, so I used this Birchbox sample on my face when exercising. I wasn’t a fan of the smell, but otherwise it was quite nice. I might eventually purchase a full size.
Dude Wipe – Aloe: One of my Bespoke Post boxes was missing the Dude Wipe sample, so CS sent me a whole box. Thank you! They’re marketed for men, but aren’t significantly different from wipes for women. The individual packs are handy to toss into bags.
Amore Pacific Natural Protection Sunscreen: I got this in last year’s Sephora Sun Safety Kit and used it twice on my face. The first time was okay, but the second time it left a horrible white cast. The sample was only enough for two uses and I feel like I should give this another go, but I think I’ll pass.
Kiehl’s Super Multi-Correcting Eye-Opening Serum: This is another Birchbox sample. It was small, but eye product samples last forever! I’ve never used an eye serum before, and I don’t have the time or patience for both that and an eye cream, but I liked this. Lately my eye area has been looking better (lighter dark circles, less noticeable fine lines), but I think that may be due to all that sheet masking and other products I’ve been using. But if I revert now that I’ve used up this serum, I’ll definitely go running back.
05-31 Ake empties 1

100% Pure Caffeine Mask: I *love* this mask. It’s heavy, fits terribly, burns slightly, and is ridiculously priced, but gives the best instant results of any sheet mask I’ve ever tried. It takes away all the redness in my face, evens my skin tone, and makes me look fabulous. Sadly, the effect is gone by the next morning, but I love how I look while it lasts. I bought five boxes when they were on a super Black Friday sale last year, and I save them for before special events.
Bon Vivant Botanical Mask Pack – Rose: This in a Memebox brand mask and the “botanical fiber” material was really interesting. It was very delicate and tore a bit coming out of the package, but it hugged my face really well and last longer than a standard paper mask. In my ideal world I would use sheet masks every day. That usually doesn’t happen because I don’t have time, but I still use them often enough that $1 is my usual price limit. This is more than that, so I’m not planning on buying more, but if there’s ever a good deal I will jump.
Botanic Farm Natural Energy – Kiwi: Botanic Farm masks have a really wide strip between the eye holes, so if I don’t cut them to a better fit I always get essence in my eyes. Which is exactly as much fun as it sounds. Other than that, this is a perfectly fine mask. I got it in the Memebox Fifty Shades of Sheet Masks box, and while I wouldn’t object to receiving more, I probably won’t seek them out.
Leaders Illuminating Treatment Mask – Another Fifty Shades mask. Leaders masks seem to be really popular, but they don’t do anything special for me. I love that they’re absolutely drenched in essence though. They can stay on my face for forever and there’s always enough left in the package to use on my body, sometimes for two days!
My Beauty Diary – Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing – I luuurv MBD sheet masks. The material is thin and really clings to my face, they have just as much essence as Leaders masks, they’re intensely hydrating, and they’re cheap! They’re a Taiwanese brand, but have become mainstream enough in the US that Target.com sells some varieties. I bought a couple of boxes when they were part of gift card sale last month, and I really wish I’d bought more.
Heat’s Trash Can!!!

Nuance (Salma Hayek) Anti-Aging Wrinkle Filler Eye Serum – I bought this product years before I’d ever heard of sub boxes… how many years? No idea. This is way old / expired and I’m finally throwing it away. I no longer feel guilty after reading the Paula’s Choice review. (see link) Yes, I always feel guilty about “wasting” old, unfinished products… I have a LOT more to throw away but… baby steps.
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II – I think I got this in a GWP (Gift with Purchase for any newbies) for buying some other Estee Lauder products?  I know many people love this and I like it just because it’s a serum but I don’t think I actually saw a difference (I so rarely do) but maybe I need to use it longer? I also think it has a little bit of an odd smell (even though it’s unscented) but the smell isn’t strong and dissipates right away so not a deal breaker. I think have another, larger sample so I should bust that out next.
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eye Pen (01 Blackest Black) – This is both empty (dried up) and expired (old). I actually loved this felt-tip type eyeliner and went through several pens BSB (before subscription boxes). Now I have an army of eyeliners so I can’t justify buying any for a very long time!
Otavea Lemon Body Scrub – From January LaRitzy. I’m new to scrubs so I’ve only tried a few but I’m learning what I like. So far this is one of my favorites because 1) I enjoyed the lemon scent (I’m apparently not a big fan of pumpkin spice scent in my scrubs… who knew?) and 2) this one was little oilier (more oily?) and therefore seemed to be more hydrating and made my skin softer. I have other scrubs to try but if I ever run out… I would consider repurchasing this in full size.
Glymed Plus Daily Repair Mega-Moisture Cream – This was a sample that I was given after getting a facial at a local Cincinnati salon & spa. (My 2nd facial ever in 30-something years and I went because it was 25% off and I needed pampering!) It’s almond scented and I loved the smell! It seemed very moisturizing but as usual, I didn’t see a big difference or anything in my skin. At $77 for 1.69oz, I probably wouldn’t purchase this even if I didn’t have a platoon of moisturizes to try from my stash. (Although did I mention that I LOVE the smell?? Yum!)
L’Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion, Medium Natural Tan – Expired! This is at least a few years old… and I would keep using it if it didn’t stink so bad. I think it only smells this bad because it’s so old though because I went through a few of these when they were new and they only had regular self-tan stink not the strong stink this has now. I like this one because it’s tinted so you can kind of see where you have a little too much product or spots you missed. (Will consider repurchasing a new one when my other self-tanners are used up. I mainly use them on my legs… a little sometimes on arms, neck & décolletage.)
Jergens Natural Glow Express Body Moisturizer (Fair to Medium Skin Tones) – Empty! I like this moisturizer / self-tanner because while it is gradual (so less uneven spots than a full self-tanner), it isn’t as slow as the regular gradual self-tanner moisturizers. Yes, I’ve tried those too and they probably work well for those who moisturize their body every day (I don’t) and are patient or have the forethought to start using it several days before they want to have a little color. Yes, all of them are a little stinky – I have a very sensitive sense of smell and there is no way around it… whatever makes a fake tan, has a smell and I don’t like it no matter how they try to mask it.  Often the smell is more noticeable a few hours after applying so don’t be fooled. I’ve read many reviews about fake tanners that don’t smell and it’s always been a LIE!
KORRES Suncare Yoghurt Nourishing Fluid Veil Face Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 – This is from the 2015 Sephora Sun Safety Kit. I know you’re probably wondering why I have still have sunscreens left from last summer’s kit and it’s partly because I’m a weird hoarder and wanted to save these nice samples for a special occasion or something? And only wanted to use them on my face… And also because I had plenty of other sunscreens.  But I want more empties and need to use these before they expire (about a year for sunscreens, right?) so more to come! Oh, and this one felt nice – very hydrating. Smell is kind of strong but I found it pleasant so didn’t mind.
Too cool for school Mellow Cream Collagen elasticity cream – In April, 3B included 7 of these foil packets! If you’re gonna send foils, that’s how you do it. As one reviewer on Amazon stated, it’s creamy but not heavy and I concur! It feels REALLY nice although not sure about noticeable improvements to my skin? And it’s another product where the smell is really strong… not unpleasant. Actually pleasant if it weren’t quite so strong.  I’ve used 5 of the 7 foils and have only used them at night – and I lay in bed smelling it until I fall asleep. Which is why I can’t use it during the day – smelling it all day would drive me crazy, I think.
Pnut’s Trash Can:
image
In the battle between Pnut and her subscription box Suki Exfoliators drying out on her, Suki wins again. Pnut thought she won the battle but at the near bitter end, Suki won the war. Will Pnut ever buy Suki? Never! But she will gladly keep using the samples subscription boxes keep sending her. Maybe one day Suki will stay moist. Until the next battle..
That’s all folks!!! Tune in next week, same time same place!!

I love how Ake cuts into her trash to get the last good bits out. I have been too lazy to do so. I haven’t done a sheet mask in awhile I need to dig into my refrigerator. I had a playdate one time where me and the other mom used sheet masks while the kids played.

Great empties Heat. You are not alone as I am a fellow Sephora Sun Kit sunscreen hoarder but I am trudging through them. I actually used the Korres today on my face lol.

Mailbox Junkie I think goat cheese should count as an empty. Those baby goats are very cute living in paradise!

Goat cheese should totally count as an empty. I mean when I am left alone with it I can devour the entire $9 container.

I too love that Ake cuts into her containers. I think she is stepping up the term empty…..

Yay, thanks! I’m so impressed with your sheet mask usage! I might have to try a couple of those.

I need to get busy. You know that bin that we got in one of the PopSugar boxes? It’s a round cloth thingie? I have it full of empties! My husband keeps trying to empty it when he takes out the trash, but I won’t let him. I’m going to start doing empties again. It’s finally quit raining, so we aren’t spending all our time cleaning flood waters and I will start taking pictures of my trash!

Susie I have a bag of empties too! I put my “choice” empties in a clear gallon ziplock bag underneath my sink so no one discoveres it and throws it out lol. I almost bought another box for that bin but fought the urge (i.e., some other box likely distracted me and I forgot)!
