Sunday Morning Coffee Talk-Spill your accomplisments

So it was a busy week for awesome people. . .

Our very own reader, Bad Kitty, was on Jeopardy this week. She ruled that stage #likeaboss! It was awesome to see her smarts in action. If you are interested to watch, her real name is Laurie and here is a you-tuber that, despite his commentary, has some of her videos posted.

Also a friend of mine wrote a book. She self-published the book and then went about getting it to #1 new release on the Amazon Travel Book Section. Stay tuned because our own Onderria is going to read and review it!

Speaking of Onderria, did you know she just got an awesome job as a Librarian?! Way to go, friend!!

So that got me thinking. Tell us something about yourself that you are proud of. It doesn’t have to be that you climbed Everest or sang in a rock band (although do share those if you did). Just put aside humbleness for a sec and spill something that makes you feel good about yourself or something you take pride in having accomplished.

Personally, I take pride in having gained an ounce of patience since I had kids. You see, I am a hyper person 23 hours and 59 minutes a day. So um, patience was not a virtue I was blessed with. Now, I can’t claim that I have gained more than an ounce. And no, it has not been a pretty site at times. However, I have gained a little through much prayer. And every time I am able to slow down and breathe, I am thankful that sometimes we can grow and change as a person.

Now folks, what about you?! Did you resist a box purchase this week? Are you sending a kid off to college? Did you stand up to a meany at work? Did you bake a souffle? Were you on Jeopardy? Did you write a book? Have you learned patience?

I am so happy for Bad Kitty and for Onderria!! Also I am proud of your patience not only with your kids but with me hehehe…

I have nothing much to report but I am going to try to accomplish something today and report back… I have been feeling a lot better the past few days with more energy. (I have an autoimmune thing that sometimes flares and while I don’t think I look sick I feel tired and blah as it were) So it is nice to have the energy to get going on something!!!

Me too! She was so calm cool and collected the whole time!

      • June 26, 2016 at 11:08 am

I would have lost it so many times. I cannot imagine being that collected. It is something I admire a lot!!!

Thank you, Mailbox Junkie! It was an amazing experience!! I’m going to be practical and use the (post-taxes) money to put a new roof on my house and get new windows. I could use it to pay off credit cards, etc., but this way I’ll have something tangible to show for it. 🙂

      Congrats Laurie, you were awesome!

    • June 26, 2016 at 3:03 pm

Thank you for letting us in on it! I am so excited for you to get a roof. Now you can tell everyone that Jeopardy put the roof over your head. . . So how do you prepare for this? Where do you even begin because it seems so random sometimes. And I noticed they have started including a little more pop culture.

Well, you only get a couple of weeks notice before you go on, so not a lot of time. At that point, you pretty much know what you know. That being said, I did grab a copy of the World Almanac and read up on stuff like state capitals and US history. Also some world history, although that didn’t help me jack squat on the Crusades topic (womp, womp). Probably the best prep was going over old quizzes on a website called J! Archive, which really helped me get used to how they ask things, various categories, and (of course) phrasing things in the form of a question.

I just can’t believe you didn’t curse the entire time you were up there. Watching you and cheering you on each night was like my super bowl. Snacks, Drinks, and me cursing up a storm at the others lol I couldn’t even do a live blog tribute because it would have been unseemly! We had a good crowd!

Congrats Onderria! Fellow librarian here as well *chants one of us one of us* I just started working as an assistant at a county library this week but was previously working as one at a middle school. Yes to all the books and the love of reading!

I’ve had a lot of negativity form for me and those surrounding me this month. I am trying to find my balance and restore some positive energy. A friend of mine suggested I look into putting energy into crystals and then cleansing them so that’s something I’ll be looking into. On the positive side I did just start my new job and made the decision to get a gym membership again after losing focus and quitting over a year ago. Also I broke down and bought 2 new boxes this month (Art of Organics and The Ritual Store Moon box). My poor wallet but at least I’ll look good right?! ; )

    • June 26, 2016 at 3:08 pm

I am so excited for you to get back into the gym. I honestly don’t know much about crystal healing but I do really enjoy sweating out whatever is around me. the thing I love most about libraries is the smell!

    • June 26, 2016 at 9:36 pm

Lor, congrats to you as well! I am in a school library, but I used to substitute teach there so I know my way around and some of the students, so that is nice. What sort of a book nerd are you? I’m into YA, supernatural/suspense/mystery stuff, and a bit of comedy romance.

The Ritual Store Moon box sounds great! I’d go for the beauty box.

I read a lot of teen books but I also enjoy mysteries, supernatural, and science fiction. School library woot woot! Elementary? I loved the junior high and I am thinking about becoming a substitute to see how I feel about teaching. Congrats all around to everyone, I enjoyed reading the successes for the week.

Whoops I forgot to put Lor as there’s another Laura that posts. 😉

        • June 27, 2016 at 11:05 pm

It’s a mixed middle and high school! Kinda fun. I enjoyed subbing sometimes. The hard parts were A. not knowing if you’re going to get paid every day / work B. walking into a class the teacher hadn’t prepped very well and C. teachers warning you about how bad your day is going to be. But, it helped me decide I wanted to get my MLIS degree and become a librarian!!

ps: Changed your commenting name to Lor just in case you didn’t want your name on here!

So awesome to read about everyone’s accomplishments! I am finally relaxing after a really stressful year of teaching…no problems with my students, but lots of problems with administration and my district! I have issues with anxiety and stress to begin with, so it’s a big deal to be able to relax. I’m currently laying on a deck in Montana, looking at the woods with a book and a tablet in my hands lol!

I am proud of me this school year, even though it was so stressful. I was voted teacher of the year at my site, and my husband and I agreed to take in a former student for the summer who had nowhere to stay. We have no kids, so it’s been good for us to be in pseudo parenting roles. And he comes from a very traumatic background, so I’m glad we can provide him with a loving, stable home…or as stable as a house with 4 cats can be! I am also lucky to have married someone who would open their home and heart to someone in need like this.

On a mushy note, I’m really happy I discovered this blog and this incredible community. You are all so cool and I love everyone’s reviews, conversations, and sense of humor. Thanks for letting me be a part of your lives!

Congratulations on teacher of the year!! Very caring and generous of you and your husband to help your former student. <3

    • June 26, 2016 at 9:33 pm

Erin, I am very happy that you also have someone like your husband who lets you open your house to a student! And I’m also happy you’re here reading the site =D Enjoy Montana and those gorgey thunderstorms!

    • June 26, 2016 at 10:22 pm

Erin, we are so glad you are here to party with us too. Thanks for sharing!

Does finishing a box of wine count as an accomplishment?

      Of course!

Congrats on the new job Onderria! I love libraries and bookstores. There was this old bookstore in Columbus that was in an old church. I miss that bookstore.

    Great job Bad Kitty!

That is so generous of you and your husband Erin! I’ve been grading student papers this weekend and it makes me want to cry (they are so bad).

I managed to only vent at my classes once this week and I consider that a great accomplishment. It has not been a good week (in much the same way that the Tony’s GlossyBox was not a good box). I do not think this batch will nominate me for teacher of the year award (I did get that one last year though).

I also accomplished a bottle of rum. It was an amazing accomplishment and challenging at times but I made it through. Now to get my Oz friends to get me another bottle.

    • June 26, 2016 at 10:24 pm

Oooo a bottle of rum huh. What was your mixer?! Me and the hubbs love rum. It was one of our early bonding memories. Venting at students only once is an accomplishment!

      • CeciliaA
        June 26, 2016 at 10:46 pm

No mixer but on the rocks. I drink an OP rum from the homeland (NE Oz). The man is from Belfast and goes for either beer or whiskey but we manage to perservere against the odds.

I love most of my classes but I do a 5-week physiology intense course over the summer and the students are always surprised that it’s a lot of work (it usually runs over a full 16-week semester).

        • June 26, 2016 at 11:09 pm

Wow, that’s intense CeciliaA!! Both the rum on the rocks and the 5 week course. Sheesh. My summer semester courses are 10 weeks, and the regular semester is 15. I’m having fun this summer with my classes though. I’d nominate you for a teaching award for not shouting at your students =D

          Are you from Australia?

          • CeciliaA
            June 27, 2016 at 5:22 pm

I am originally from Cairns in Queensland. I grew up bouncing about between Australia, Indonesia, and South Africa but moved to the US semi-permanently when I started school.

I would kill to have 10-weeks for a summer term.

      June 27, 2016 at 8:44 am

You have the patience of a saint Cecilia, if you only vent once a week at your students! Belated congratulations on your award too.

I’ve been in that crying position with terrible papers, and I know you will make it through (even if a bottle of rum helps you out), and I know your students will carry something away from your class too. Thank you for teaching during the summer as well…that’s something I could never bring myself to do, so you’re fighting the good fight for us all!

Y’all are all so accomplished! Mine is a teeny, tiny little step, but it’s a big one for me. I went full moon night bass fishing! My hubby and I used to go at least 4 times a year. I haven’t been in 3 years due to many surgeries, health problems, blah, blah, blah. We have a cabin about 3 hours away from our house. The ride is painful. But I’ve made it 3 times in the last 4 weeks! Twice to clean out cabin and get everything ready and once when we went fishing. Didn’t catch a dang thing, but I went!! It’s small, buts it’s a start!

  8. June 27, 2016 at 12:23 pm

    Great accomplishments ladies!
I think for me to be more patient is a evolving process as well 😉
