Sunday Morning Coffee Talk: Hurricane Season

Well folks, Hurricane season is upon is in the tropics. Take a look at our most recent trouble maker:

darby

So this happens several times a year where they get everyone riled up and we are told to “Batten Down the Hatches!”

Alright so suspend reality for a minute!

Did you really suspend it?

Ok, good.

You are in the middle of a hurricane and you can only grab your most favorite subscription box item ever (like in the history of every box you have ever gotten) to take with you, What do you choose?!?!?!?!

It does not have to be practical. Why? Because we suspended reality, remember?!?!

Mine: Avenue A Summer 2016-Blue Shoes

Hands down, my favorite box item ever. (ok a tiny part of me that has not suspended reality thinks shoes are handy when you are running from flying coconuts)

Great post! My first thought was the Zoe’s BOS sarong.

Ooo yes! It could also act like a blanket

I think the ring from the last BOS would come in handy for opening the flying coconuts.

Oh no, those would already be in your bag. Food items are a gimmie.

So I’m actually in Maui right now during this ferocious (LOL) storm and I brought at least 11 sub box items with me (by my quick count). I would also take those Adidas shoes. What wouldn’t count towards my one item are the shorts from the same box which I am currently wearing and the Swan drink float from Popsugar my son drags everywhere with him.

I totally want to make you hand out with me while you are on Maui!!!

I wish I could! It’s a family trip and now I need a vacation from my vacation. Tomorrow is our last day 🙁

        Maui is always so beautiful.

I know how it is with the family and wee ones. In my dreams, we meet up at Mala on the west side for happy hour and we both show up wearing our adidas shorts . . .

I think I’m in a three-way tie between my 1951 clutch which I won from here (it didn’t come in *my* subscription box, but it did come in *a* subscription box), the Turkish-T throw from the winter 2014 Popsugar LE, and the little melamine bowls from the Nona’s Kitchen Little Lace Box last spring. I use those bowls almost every day. They’re plastic so they don’t break, but they feel and look like ceramic. I use them for dipping sauces, holding a little baking soda when I need to scrub with a toothbrush, for small amounts of ingredients when cooking, for serving condiments, for everything! I never thought I needed tiny bowls in my kitchen, but apparently I did.

MBJ, what kind of exercise do you use those shoes for? I’ve been thinking about buying a pair, but I feel like I’m being tempted by the fact that they’re pretty rather than any functional advantage.

I have been using them for running and crossfit/cross training. They are so wonderful. I don’t have to wear socks with them. What are you thinking of using them for?

Same. Mostly running though. I usually use old running shoes for cross training.

So a huge winning point for me is that they are a glove fit (meaning you don’t have to wear socks) and also that the top of the shoe (that covers your toes) is almost a spandexy mesh so they have tons and tons of flex which I like because I have really high arches. I would say they definitely trend on the minimalist side of shoes. Hope that helps. I saw the fall Avenue A box also has a pair of shoes. Did you check them out? I forgot what model they are but MSA would have it. The Avenue A box is IMO is an insane deal considering they are including shoes and they switch stuff out.

Okay, last question! For real this time. Aren’t the shoes getting stinky without wearing socks?

Honestly, they sounds great. I love flexible, minimalist options and a stiff bit near the base of the toe is one of my pet peeves with athletic shoes. The heal to toe drop is a bit larger than I prefer, but I think I may need to give theses a go.

I’ve been drooling over the Avenue A box and given some thought to subscribing. But I end up getting most of my exercise clothing for free (and even some of my shoes) through races and events, so I’ve held back so far. I’ll live vicariously through you!
