In Real Life: Inflatable Swan and Oreo Popcorn

Box: Popsugar Must Have, July 2016 and August 2016

Item: Inflatable Drink Holder Pool Float and Oreo Popcorn

Price: $18

It rarely gets truly hot in the Seattle area [like 85+, not 60+ like most PNW pansies], and this summer was a pretty big let down for us summer fans. It was pretty chilly and overcast. So, when there was finally a week of 80-95 degree temperatures, I texted McBoyfriend’s mom to ask her if I could come hang out in her new above ground kiddie pool!

Also, I really wanted a reason to use the swan drink holder because I knew with summer ending I’d never swap that beast away!

They also have flamangoes, which are way more cute than the swans! Ah well. It served its purpose well.

Look at those White Russians. The swan was a wonderful hostess, and though she kept wandering off around the small pool, she did her job and kept our drinks afloat. She didn’t get a tip though… she never refilled our glasses =\

Cookie Pop Popcorn in Cookies & Cream: I am unsure of retail price, but if you want to buy that $12 bag from Amazon I’d say perhaps find a better snack…

The boy hated this, but I thought it was tasty and spot-on. I think he was just bitter because he purchased the Swedish Fish Oreos and they were naaaasty. Like, the frosting tasted like sugary paint. I think the roomie ate them, which is good because I was scraping out the gross red frosting and putting peanut butter in instead!

I want to end this post with your input! Essence Beauty Box shut down [effective September, 2016], and it was one of my favorites! Now, I’m just subbing to Birchbox and Popsugar. Do you have any favorite oldies or intriguing up and coming boxes that you could recommend to me? I’m into art, home decor, accessories, samples/products, and open to much more. However, I like to keep my monthly boxes under $30ish each.

Disclosure: Both items were from PSMH boxes that were purchased by myself.

A swan delivering White Russians in a pool has to be some kind of life goal. Sorry to hear about the Essence box, it looked like a terrific box and a good value. Last month I tried the Sisley box, $10 + CA tax, the samples were small but it was fun trying the crazy expensive stuff and I did feel like I got my moneys worth. I may order it again in September depending on what type samples that they send. Now I NEED to go find some of that cookie corn.

I saw a review of the Sisley box, and it seemed interested but I think I’d be sad not being able to afford anything full size!

You are awesome for your use of the swan!!

Boxes to try, you probably know more about all the boxes than I do but I just thought I’d throw a few out there:

Make-up: Julep (it’s sooooo customizable and you should at least get the first box free or whatever deals they’re always offering to try for 3 months, etc.) or BoxyCharm

Women of Color boxes: Onyx or Cocotique?

Hair: Shtrands or eSalon Match up – these are both ones I’ve considered b/c they’re very personalized but I have too many hair products to try / use up before I can justify it.

Art boxes are expensive… there’s almost no home decor stuff it seems like… accessories – what types? Wantable accessories has many customizable options but it’s slightly above your preferred price.

Thanks, Heat! Wantable Accessories was my first spendy box after I tried Birchbox and Ipsy. They kept raising the prices and the quality wasn’t really following IMO. Art boxes are spendy, and the home decor boxes fall quickly, I agree! I think I may look into Onyx or Cocotique, but I liked that Essence sent all around products [poo spray, witch hazel wipes, roll on eyeshadow, etc.], not just a shampoo, mascara, lotion box.

We used the swan on vacation in the kiddy pool to hold sippy cups. White Russians are so much better though! My son loved the swan and dragged it everywhere. I had every intention of tossing it at the end of the trip, but I brought it back for use next year.

I’m bummed about Essence because I loved your reviews! I’d love to find a home decor sub around $30/month. Even if it only included one item. It seems like there aren’t any home decor subs out there anymore.

Thanks, Artemis! I left the swan with McBoyfriend’s mom because her grandkids will play with it in the pool. Most likely for sippy cups =D

The home decor boxes are expensive usually, and I don’t tend to like what they send. There’s the Gable Lane [?] box, but that’s way out of my budget! What sort of items would you want to get in a home decor box?

Pnut, did you nom all your popcorn yet??

      • September 4, 2016 at 7:49 pm

No. Oreos should only be mixed with icecream. The squeakers and my husband were nomming them up at the pool today. It should be finnished soon by then. Thumbs up for PopSugar to give a full size bag of noms though!
