When One Thing Leads to Another: Using up Birchbox Points – July 2016

Purchase Site: Birchbox

Reason: Using up my Birchbox points!

I had 500 points to use up on Birchbox, and I decided that I would spend it in July before they deleted the whole points system.

Birchbox points purchase

Bombas Men Color Ankle Socks in Grey/Blue: $12

These are my holy grail [HG] socks! They do not fall down, and they’re squishy and wonderful feeling.

Sidebar: I am watching Jane the Virgin, and in this episode her advisor tells her that her romance novel has to pass the Bechdel test, then Jane tries to apply it to her life and fails miserably. Now I’m trying to apply it to this post and HERE’S A MAN ALREADY! Hehe.

Milk Makeup Gel Brow in Pilsner: $18

I got this as a sample in Birchbox, and really liked it. This pencil works much better with the brush!!

BAGGU Duck Bag in Sailor Stripe: $26

I’ve been drooling over these for a while, and decided to get one for use as my gym bag. It’s mildly smaller than I expected, and I also was disappointed to see there wasn’t a zipper. So, there’s not much room for my foldable yoga mat, clothes, and shoes. Ah well. I still like it!!

Birchbox rise and shine box

Rise and Shine Box: $10, free with $50+ purchase

When I saw this was available in the Birchbox bonus shop, I was like “holdup stupid ‘$10’ two pack bonus box! I’m getting this way more awesome sample box instead!!” Pnut got the box for her curated box choice this month, so I shall direct thee to her review here.

Birchbox Rise and Shine

Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion: I can always use more face scrubs!

Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil: I’ll toss this in my bag for those gray days.

Elizabeth Mott – It’s SO BIG Mascara: How big, Pnut?? I’ll hold on to this one.

Klorane Soothing Eyepatches: I am a big fan of the Klorane eyepatches,

Living Proof Styling Cream, plus bonus Shampoo and Conditioner: Anyone know if these are for curly girlies??

July Birchbox purchase

Verdict: Overall I think I spent $16.99, and that includes $5 on shipping and $5.99 on tax. Pretty good haul!! I got the Milk eyeliner in a BB one month, which led me to saving it to buy, plus I’ve been eyeing the BAGGU bag so that had been in my cart, and finally the socks I j’adore and always have them in my cart. So, many things led to another in this purchase.

What did you spend your remaining BB points on? Also, do you watch or read anything that passes the Bechdel test? If so, let us know!

See other things that led to another here!

Disclosure: I purchased these items with Birchbox points and my own dolladollabills.

Nice haul! I cancelled BB after July and used up my points on some lippies lol.

Thanks! They wouldn’t let me cancel since I bought a one year sub =/

Wait… what?!?!? I canceled my yearly sub and got a partial refund (although I don’t like how they prorated the price). I did make a point of saying that they were failing to provide the service I had signed up for though. I can send you the exact wording if you want to force the issue.

I cashed in my points for the most part. I got a shampoo that promises squeak in its reviews. Some funky nail clippers because the ones I have keep dissapearing. And Shiseido Cotton Pads.

I have a few boxes left and will stay on provided that there is a good offer (which is always the norm for me lol). I have ACE status until the end of next December. I can get the Shisheido Cotton Pads for free shipping and it would save me money/sanity from being harassed at the department store. Also I am hoping for some nice LE boxes.

BB’s upgraded website had to cost a pretty dime so they definately stepping up their game. Hopefully the CEO learns her lesson and has hired a public relations firm to assist with damage control. She should also hire people smarter than her since it appears she has an ego issue.

Pnut, I like the sound of your squeaky shampoo. I like canned mushrooms because they are squeaky =)

I’m like 91 points from being Ace, and without any more points I won’t reach that haha.

      • August 16, 2016 at 6:08 pm

I am probably going to do an HG (Holy Grail) Shampoo post its so good! And its sulfate-free to boot!

I am a fan of all mushrooms but I need to observe the squeakyness of the canned. Have you tried good squeaky cheese curds?

I ALMOST got suckered into buying more Sephora items to reach the second level one time. At least that was more realistic (I think $200 or $300) versus BB ($500). Hopefully they will lower the point level for ACE if they are smart. Free shipping with ACE is such a great perk. Sephora sucks me in because you have to spend $50 a pop to get free ship. At least BB has some items ship free for non-ACE peeps.

Now that song “One Thing Leads to Another” is streaming through my head! I am glad you got some things you wanted for a good price. I am not a BB subscriber but I would be sad over the points fiasco if I were. I really want to try some Bombas!

    • August 9, 2016 at 7:24 pm

Hah, Dayle now it’s in my head! Bombas really are amazing… I need to be an ambassador for them, except I doubt anyone I’ve told has bought any since they’re $11-15 per pair.

Bombas are The. Bomb. Best socks ever, and worth every penny.

Oh BB, oh I miss the days when you were awesome. . . This is a great way to use up the points!

Hey! I got the same bag with the (not quite) last of my points too! I’ve been using it for concerts in the park. It’s a nice size for a sweater, Turkish towel, snacks, and a thermos.

    Love the Bechdel Test reference!

    • August 9, 2016 at 11:37 pm

Hey Ake, that’s a good idea! I do really like the bag, but because I bought it with a specific purpose in mind I was a little bummed it didn’t really work. However, I still like it for other stuff.

A few years ago I heard the history of the Bechdel Test and the woman who made the comic that popularized it, and so every once in a while I see it come up in pop culture and I feel enlightened because of NPR.

Oh, let me know how it is! I was such a huge fan of Dykes to Watch Our For when I was younger.

    • August 16, 2016 at 10:17 am

Yes, Laurie, let us know how Fun Home was! I haven’t read her graphic novel / memoir yet, and I’m glad you reminded me so I can add it to my TBR list. Is it a play that you saw?
