Though I don’t have a ton of time for books that aren’t audiobooks, textbooks, or a graphic novel for work, I still love getting more books!! Plus, I only have seven months till I finish my master’s degree, and then I’ll have time enough at last! So, I was stoked when Subista told me there was a new book box out there that wanted to send me some books.

While poking around the BookCase.Club website, the first thing that struck me as cool was the fact that they donate books to charity for every subscriber they get. I like partnerships like that where the companies give back.
We have partnered with Books for Keeps and every month BookCase.Club will donate one childrens book for every active subscription. So not only are you receiving your own great books, you are helping send one to a child that might not otherwise have a book to read.
Books for Keeps has a simple goal: to place books in the hands of children who are least likely to have access. This program gives 12 books to every child served just in time for summer. The goal: to keep up their reading achievement outside of school.
When you sign up there are eight different options to choose from, but the Cookbooks and Military History boxes are quarterly. I went for YA, though I think Strange Worlds, Thrill Seekers, and Blind Date all sound good!

The card for the box has a quote, social media contacts, and writeups about the books. The writeup was a bit confusing because I kept reading through as if it were one long description but it’s two separate descriptions.

Sounds interesting. I like snark and ghosts! This was published in 2013 and has a prequel.
Denton Little’s Death Date by Lance Rubin
Denton Little’s Deathdate takes place in a world exactly like our own except that everyone knows the day they will die. For 17-year-old Denton Little, that’s tomorrow, the day of his senior prom.
Despite his early deathdate, Denton has always wanted to live a normal life, but his final days are filled with dramatic firsts. First hangover. First sex. First love triangle (as the first sex seems to have happened not with his adoring girlfriend, but with his best friend’s hostile sister. Though he’s not totally sure. See: first hangover.) His anxiety builds when he discovers a strange purple rash making its way up his body. Is this what will kill him? And then a strange man shows up at his funeral, claiming to have known Denton’s long-deceased mother, and warning him to beware of suspicious government characters…. Suddenly Denton’s life is filled with mysterious questions and precious little time to find the answers.
This came out in 2015 and has a sequel set for 2017. It sounds somewhat interesting and like something I would read, and I had not heard of it before.
Verdict: This box is great for discovering new-to-you books. Both of these books deal with death in a light / humorous way, and I am curious if that was a theme and if it was for Halloween, or just a coincidence!
Despite the picture icons, they aren’t selling the hottest new, best-selling books [which was a bit deceptive], but they also don’t say that they are. I like that this box has a variety of genres to choose from and is books-only. Most other boxes have bookish goodies and are specifically YA, romance, or hot new adult fiction. So, you’re saving money by just getting books, and if I were to buy these books off of Amazon the price would be $20+.
My only issue with this box is the info card. It’s a bit confusing and has a lot of text on it in different fonts and sizes. I love a good info card that I actually want to keep for the creative/artistic appeal! That’s easily fixable, and not an actual product issue, just personal preference =D

The Strange Worlds box might be calling my name. I already get Uppercase and OwlCrate for YA and Powell’s and BOTM for adult fiction but they don’t seem to do a lot of SciFi/Fantasy. Very tempting. I’ll have to see if it’s in the budget for next month (I did drop Cozy Reader Club due to price but I can get 6 months of this for 1 month of Cozy Reader).
Yeah! I think it sounds good too! Cozy Reader looked neat, but I have a hard time buying boxes that cost more than $40. How do you like Powell’s?? I love the actual store, and definitely need to drive down there to just hang out for a day!
I LOVE the Powell’s box. They do a great job picking out books that I would never choose for myself but that, if I don’t love them, I at least appreciate reading them. I just finished Homegoing a bit ago and it was such a powerful book that I would have missed if I didn’t get the sub.
I liked the books and themes for Cozy Reader, just not for the price tag.
This looks interesting. Do you get to see the books you’ll be getting before they ship? I read a lot (my goal is 200 books per year. I’m not going to make it this year as I’m about 35 books short. Since they are older, I’d like to make sure that I haven’t read it or have it in my “to read” pile. I loved BOTM since you could choose the book. I cancelled that so I can try NovelTea. I’ll let you know how that is!
Hey Susie, the books are a surprise. I can see why you would want to know! I noticed BoTM just changed their model to let people skip a month and whatnot. I personally like buying used books but these last couple of years I’ve been blasting through audiobooks. I just checked my Goodreads and I am at 80/100 [audio and books]. You’re an amazing reader!!! I also noticed my TBR list is almost at 300, and that doesn’t even include most of the books I’ve been finding at work that I’ve yet to add…
