Taco Bout It Tuesday: PSMH Reflection pt 1 – Spring 2016

Subscription: Popsugar Must Have

Cost: $39.95/month, free shipping.

What to Expect: “Enjoy a monthly delivery of full-sized surprises worth over $100, curated by POPSUGAR Founder & President Lisa Sugar.”

Why, hello. Did you notice that there were no Popsugar Must Have reviews on Subscriptionista from February, March, or April? You may be asking, “why? WHY!?!?!” Well, I can’t answer that. Instead, I have four bloggers’ opinions on three boxes!

That’s right. I went through my drafts and found this awesome post that we’ll now pretend is a look back at one year of Popsugar Must Have boxes.

festival style
Left to right: Subista, Mailbox Junkie, Pnut, Onderria

Three boxes, four bloggers, one review. You’re welcome in advance for saving you time and cramming a bunch of awesome into one post.

I was actually trying to search the internet for women to represent the four of us [without getting 100% porn] but while looking for a “festival style” woman for Mailbox Junkie, I found this picture and holy smokes it’s like someone found the four of us at a festival!

psmh survey

To start the process I created a Google survey [I have really neat hobbies] and strongarmed my Subsistas into filling it out. I analyzed the data in a spreadsheet and instead of presenting you with a plethora of graphs, tables, and pivot charts [wtf are those], we are going to show some highs, lows, and snarky comments!

Also, if you’re a big fan of surveys and got at least one of the boxes from Feb, March, or April, you can take the survey and let us know what you loved/liked/despised!

Subista: “The $20 giftcard was awesome but the cleaning balm is fancy.”

MBJ: “Swapped for more of the Beauty Counter Cleanser!”

Onderria: “I love the balm, but the Victoria’s Secret giftcard paid for half a bra and then I got a surprise $10 reward to buy another the next month!”

Most disliked: JewelryStorm Endless Arrow Ring

I think Mailbox Junkie’s broke, so I gave her mine. I hope she didn’t see it as a rude gesture!

Final rating: 3.6

Most loved: Two votes for the carafe set, and one each for the watch and cookies.

Subista: “I love the drinking water set because I feel fancy drinking it.”

MBJ: “Going to try those cookies in all the flavors they make!”

Onderria: “I still think the inspiration themes are misleading… I was expecting something pink, feminine, and vibrating…”

popsugar must have Govino glass and nanette nanette watch

Sooo… it’s hard trying to take selfies random box items… I went with my favorite picture so you know how legit your Subista bloggers are. Btw I LOVE that watch! It ended up being my favorite item.

Most disliked: Tassels and contouring… are you surprised?? We have all decided making an attempt with our lack of contouring skills makes our faces look dirty.

Final rating: 3.3

April

Most loved: Two votes for the tea towel and one each for the balm and the creme.

Subista: “The balm is amazing I love it! It was a middle of the road month.”

MBJ: “Swapped for more of the Beauty Counter Cleanser!”

Onderria: “One of my favorite boxes! I love the towel and balm, but I’m sure I’ll use the cookbook. The shakers were broken but not something I’d use anyway.”

Most disliked: Salt and pepper shakers [though, two of us loved them and two did not], and the flower coupon.

Final rating: 3.7

Verdict: Let’s taco-bout these Springy boxes! So, we’re mostly a high 3s for the three Spring-ish boxes, which I think is decent. Popsugar Must Have sends a mix of items, so some will be a hit and others a miss. The four of us agree that it’s one of the best boxes for the money, and I believe we all chose to throw our credit cards at Popsugar shouting “MORE FACE BALMS!”

Something I learned from looking at this was that we hate tassels [and most of the jewelry PSMH chooses] and are not fans of coupons. I feel like coupons should be to provide more encouragement to buy something you received in the box, but sometimes it is nice if it’s a giftcard without a minimum purchase requirement.

What do you think? If you want to take the survey, click here to let us know, or leave us some comments because we love hearing from our Readeristas and Readeritos!

Most importantly: ARE YOU WAITING FOR THE 6 MONTH BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY COUPON!? Pnut is getting us all excited for one, and while we’re waiting for that I’m also waiting for the Winter Women’s box because I finally caved and purchased my first ever limited edition box, and also the first box over $50 for me I think! Aside from food.

Disclosure: These boxes were purchased by individual bloggers at a discount. There is a referral code.

Awesome! Yes, I am waiting for a 6 month deal! I just canceled my Play by Sephora subscription the other day, so that I can justify the extra expense. (Even though PS is a bit more…doesn’t matter! The math works in my head.)

I am thinking of cancelling Play by Sephora too. Just waiting to see what damage I cause in the next 60 days. So far so good. Right now I just got the Dermstore mystery box. I also have the $15 Vegan Cuts box with the Palmetto Dermetto mask everyone hates but I like it in my cart but haven’t pulled the trigger…

C’mon PS 6 month code!!! That 3 month code is awesome though…

Seriously! I keep telling myself “Patience is a virtue”…

Ok so with the upgrade feature now available I started a new three month subscription (my last box ended in October). So $60 and tax charged. Will “upgrade” on Black Friday lol. If 6-9 months down the road if I am in a pickle I guess I can gift unopened duplicate boxes…
          I bought a 6 month subscription to Allure ($60).
I somewhat forgotten about the $15 Vegan Cuts. A little.

            CC damage update:
            Upgraded PS for 6 months!
Resisted Vegan Cuts and Look Fantastic Mystery boxes.
Reserving $50 for Sephora after christmas online sale since nothing really is begging to be picked up home. I thought last year’s Black Friday was ahmazing.

That upgrade feature is dangerous! I’ve got a solid year of Popsugar coming now for half the price! I wonder if Box of Style will ever add the upgrade feature?

I unsubscribed from Play by Sephora today to make amends for my need-a-code/bargain issues.
Yes I am a bit miffed about that $299 BOS year sub for new peeps it kinda screws the loyal $350 annual peeps like me :/

I <3 this post! It's almost like festival Sex in the City subista style with the pictures you choose of us!

    • November 25, 2016 at 8:16 pm

Hehe yay! I’m glad you like it. I’m also really happy for the one Black Friday deal I purchased: 6 months of Popsugar, and I honestly would’ve purchased a year of it but they don’t offer that.

      • November 25, 2016 at 8:56 pm

It’s been done though by upgrading another 6 month the code reportedly works. I am thinking about it but I am looking at the gift horse in the mouth. Why didn’t they do $75 instead of $100 discount? Either PS is losing a ton of customers and/or the crunching numbers department is too generous. Anyway I am hesistant to try for 15 months and will likely stay at 9 months mainly because I am worried with the awesome PS deals that this box will start to suck like the PS minis :/
I did make a Sephora purchase. The item I kinda liked actually went on stock so I jumped at it. Less to worry/stalk for after xmas.

        • November 26, 2016 at 4:20 pm

Ugh. I petted the gift horse and plunked down change for another 6 months.

This post is so awesome! And I think your festivals girls selves are spot on! I want to find my festival self! I think I would have loved the Chrissy Teigen cookbook the most because I <3 her so much! She cracks me up on Lip Synch Battle. Great idea for a post, I hope this becomes a regular thing!

    • November 25, 2016 at 8:20 pm

Dayle, thanks I’m glad you like it! The girl on the right actually looks like a thin teen version of my sister, had we been attractive in our teens haha! I wasn’t really a Christy Teigen fan, but the cookbook looks great. We’ve thought about having a cook off from it, but I don’t know that any of us Subista sisters have cracked the book open! I’m sure there are lots up for swap on MSA though!
