Popsugar Limited Edition Women’s Winter Box Review – December 2016

Subscription: Popsugar Limited Edition Women’s Box

Cost: $100, sold out

What to Expect: “Enjoy a monthly delivery of full-sized surprises worth over $100, curated by POPSUGAR Founder & President Lisa Sugar.”

This is my first Limited Edition box [or what we in the box biz call LE box]! I’m usually really not into the “luxe” items that are sent out in LE boxes, and I’d rather get my bang for my buck. HOWEVER, I was reeled in by the blanket spoiler, so I threw $100 at PS for the third time this year, and they were like “okay cool bro, now wait a month so we can send this to you.”

Popsugar Winter for Her

In a Zoe box review, Pnut mentioned her box writing didn’t look as shiny in the picture as it did in person. I knew what she meant! I was happy to be able to hit my box at the right angle to get it shiny.

Let’s dig in to the box!

Charcoal Muskoka Throw by pehr

Charcoal Muskoka Throw Pehr Blanket: $136

This isn’t like $136 fancy for me. That would be like a giant blanket that I could make a cocoon inside of and live with ridiculous warmth and softness. However, it is a nice lap blanket but it’s one of those smaller blankets that doesn’t go around you.

I’ve put it in my office for now until I get a reading chair which will be a double wide chair with like 10 blankets and two kitties!

That’s right, McBoyfriend promised me [again] that we were getting a kitty when we move! Now if the housing market would just calm down…

Until then, here’s one kitty on the blanket! I love this photo of her.

Around the World Eye Shadow Palette by Cargo Cosmetics: $34

I wasn’t expecting another palette from Popsugar! They sent one in the December box that I had barely used when this beast showed up.

Seriously, I’ve never owned a makeup palette this large. It doesn’t even fit in my makeup and jewelry mirror cabinet!

I really like this giant thing, and I’ve never owned any palettes before that weren’t a 2-4 sampler kit. These colors are lovely, and half of them are shimmers. I hadn’t realized until I was writing this review that the colors are supposed to be used in duos and quads. The brush isn’t great, but that’s okay because I own at least two eyeshadow brushes.

Err… I should do a brush sub sometime!

Louis Sherry 6-Piece Pink Truffle Collection: $22.50

Whoa, this seemed spendy, but at $3.75/truffle it’s what I’d expect to see for fancy chocolates. The six pack comes with: Strawberry Romanoff, Mexican Vanilla, Pomegranate Crème, Coffee Costa d’Oro, Fleur de Sel Caramel, and Raspberry Crème.

Yum. I’ve eaten two and hidden the rest in my office on a shelf with my jewelry making supplies =) Sidenote: the papers were stupidly hard to get out, especially when I really wanted to eat a chocolate!

Tiny Satchel from The Cambridge Satchel Company: $95-115, but some colors are on sale for 40% off

This spoiler was cute at first, then when I got it I realized I would never use it.

First off, the buckles are stupidly hard to open and this isn’t a purse you can just leave flapping open because everything would fall out. Second, there are no pockets and my #1 purse rule is: POCKETS. So, this $100 purse is going on to a better home. Le sigh.

R+Co Tinsel Smoothing Oil: $24 for 2oz

No surprise here, I’m not going to be keeping this. I’m very skeptical of hair items that are not meant for curls, so I tend to just pawn them off on coworkers and co-bloggers with more manageable hair.

Also, I thought this was room or sheet spray at first, so I was bummed to see it wasn’t!

Simpatico Hobnail Snow Glass Reed Diffuser Gift Set: $48.99 for 8 oz

My diffuser from last winter’s FFF box is almost empty after a year of sitting out! Is that pretty standard?? It still smells too, and I try to flip the sticks once per week or so. I also got a DIY diffuser from Maker’s Kit a few months ago, and spent $25 on a Bath and Bodyworks plug in scent sale, so I’m good on diffusers for now.

I gifted this to my sister-in-law, and just noticed the price! Jeeeez. For a diffuser??

Verdict: So, around a $360 value for $100! This box was alright. The items that I am keeping are valued at more than what I paid for the box, and I’ve got no regrets. Also, this year the women’s out-shined the men’s and last year it was vice-versa, so I’m pleased!

Last year I did have FOMO for the men’s box.

When reed diffusers were “the thing” I really didn’t blink an eye. Unfortunately, the brand that had the best juice was pricey and rarely went on sale. It would be awesome sauce it the brand made it to a subscription box. The brand is Alora Ambience.

Love your review! I really wanted to get this box when I saw the throw spoiler, but made myself wait. Then it sold out, so it wasn’t meant to be. I may try to get a reed diffuser, though. I’ve never tried them.

Hey Elizabeth, that usually happens with boxes I want. I wait and they sell out. Boxes I don’t want usually get super discounted. Just a sign to save my money!!

I know I have developed a taste for more expensive boxes over the course of finding out about them. I think it’s like a dug and I have to have a stronger and stronger dose until I end up in the poor house lol

I have a lovely red leather “double-wide” chair that I sit in and read subscription blogs! Highly recommended for sitting with a child to read or a kitty for snuggling! I always have FOMO when it comes to LE boxes, but I never bite. I then live vicariously through bloggers and either hate the universe for making me miss out, or give myself a high five for sparing myself the money.

My purse rule is that it must have a cross-body strap and a “hand” strap, I am glad to know I am not the only one with a purse rule!

My New Years resolution this year is to win the Powerball, so I see a future with boxes delivered daily and a nice big snuggle to cuddle into while I sit in my double wide and kill that FOMO for good!

Dayle, your reading chair sounds lovely!!

Yes, I have purse rules and I’m glad you do as well! I like a zipped pocket, an interior phone pocket, a crossbody strap, and the purse has to either clasp or zip at the top and be less than a foot wide and tall. I’m purse picky!! But, if I have to carry it around all the time then it’s okay. Also, I spend $20-50 on a new purse every 2-4 years.

Best wishes winning the Powerball =D We tried last year and definitely failed!!

I Love the blanket. Im sort of picky with chocolate and they were ok. I was disappointed in the purse because I loved the spoiler pictures but it is just an inch or so too small to put my phone inside. That is one of my rules, lol. The diffuser I don’t love the scent but it doesn’t bother me so I am using it and the glass is great and will be reused. I don’t really use hair products. I just threw away an old bottle of smoothing oil that I hadn’t used in forever. So I swapped the oil without trying it. I also was able to swap the purse, and actually just the tin from the chocolates to someone who liked it. I still have the palette which I will try to swap as well since I have plenty of palettes, like you mentioned they are a common sub box item so I have too many.
