Taco Bout It Tuesday: Luxe Boxes

Furry throws. Turkish Peshtemal towels. Velvety candles. Wonder eye cremes. What’s your fancy weakness?

Magic clocks that aren’t still on Standard Time when you wake up in a frenzy on Monday morning.

From time to time we give in. That temptation of what may be in a $100, $200, $500?? box just pushes us over the edge and we throw our credit card and the computer yelling “JUST TAKE MY MONEY!!!”

luxury shopping

Luxe… lux… luxury… The idea of high-end surprise items at a more affordable price. Are they worth it? I caved and bought my first $100 box.

rachel zoe box of style

For $65 because I can’t really spend $100 on one box and not feel insanely awful…

Pnut and Mailbox Junkie are usually the ones enamored with Box of Style from The Zoe Report, and after feeling ho-hum through many seasons, I saw that Tribe Alive purse and had to have it!

To be fair, I was purse shopping anyway, and liked the pattern so I figured for $65 I liked the purse, and the water bottle, ricey eyes, and nail polish were just fun extras.

The scarf and earrings are meh.

So I want to know, what are your luxe box weaknesses? What items make you cave, throw your card at your computer without abandon, and hit “purchase” till your cat/partner/neighbor/child comes in and tells you to calm down? What are some of your favorite luxe boxes? Which one[s] would you try if money didn’t matter?

I personally get weak-kneed for Turkish towels and sensibly sized purses with multiple interior pockets. My desired sub that I could never afford is the 5th Ave Style box and the Avenue A box.

I love any kind of throw or Turkish towel. But, I just bought my first Nina Garcia Quarterly. I was a little nervous about their shipping, but I received it in 10 days!! I love, love, love the Karl Lagerfield (sp?) reversible tote. I got a beautiful beige color with white interior. I would have been happy with just that, but I ended up loving the tray. It’s huge! And the office supplies. I was really worried that I would regret spending so much money. But, I’m happy as a clam. Can’t say that my husband feels quite the same kind of happy over this box.

I think what makes me cave is my first reaction to a spoiler. If I see something that really calls out to me, I must have it. The last luxe item that made me cave was the kimono of 2017 PSMH Resort which was my second PSMH LE box. I won’t buy an LE PSMH without a spoiler and the first box was also a resort box with the Jane Iredele twistieske palette.

Candles, throws, and Turkish towels don’t hurt either.

PSMH is so dumb why did they post that second overinflated spoiler. probably need to post full spoilers soon since I am sure there will not be an uptick in purchasing the box. Lucky I have Pnut people for that LE spoiler and the March box. Did their supply department turn into elementary school kids!?!

Hehe, I thought the bracelet/necklace was really cute but not enough to get the whole box. I’d swap you for it!

lol! Silly Onderria you know I just exchange self-curated boxes 😉 Do you want the brass hand charms in the necklace in your box? I am going to give the necklace to my Pnut people and once they break it I have plans to eventually restring the seed beeds and use the “made with love” charms for future projects when my Pnut people level up in dexterity to make better than subscription box jewelry :p

Oh, wow. Now I see what you meant about the over-inflated spoiler! I just thought it was a pretty necklace but $90??!? No thanks. I mean, I know red coral is nice, but sheesh. It’s not THAT nice.
            A MUCH cheaper option!

Yea! Full spoilers revealed on 2017 revealed. I am in love! The kimono is sold in various freestanding storefronts in NYC (also in other states and in boutiques) so it is a brand that I am happy to have and I may take it to the hospital for #4’s arrival lol can thank the dissapointed villagers for that commentary :p

Adidas Avenue A is my splurge box. I wear something to work out, yoga or relax in every day though, so no guilt here! My husband is quite envious that they don’t have one for men.

I tend to get a little palm twitching towards the credit card at most organic beauty boxes, but I can’t reasonably get them all and I can’t quit my double Beauty Heroes because I am quite sure that the month that I do will be the month they have exactly what I need two of! I stay on the lookout for spoilers and play beauty box roulette between Pearlesque, Boxwalla Beauty and Art of Organics. This month I shot myself and got my tenth! bottle of natural cleanser in Art of Organics, at least it looks fun though!

I have learned to vicariously enjoy other people’s happiness at most of the lifestyle boxes without too much FOMO. I would love to try Trunk Club or Stitch Fix but I buy a lot of high end resale, so I am not sure I could truly appreciate paying full price!

That’s a pretty good way to look at it, Dayle with the Avenue A. I would also like to do a nice clothes box, but I’m picky about trying things on.

I’m so beauty boxed out. Mostly because I have too much highlighter, face cleansers, lip products, and dry shampoos [SO MUCH]. I want something else like a lip scrub, mustache bleaching, teeth whitening… DIY eyebrow piercing… [just kidding on that one!].

I don’t think I’ve ever splurged on an expensive box yet… I do get Pearlesque ($40 per month) but my first box was $28 and I kept it because I always like or love everything! I’m a sucker for skincare and, like Dayle, I always get twitchy towards organic beauty boxes. I’m currently “this close” to signing up for Love Goodly for the One Love Organics Serum spoiler for the next box!! I was almost that close to signing up for Beauty Heroes last year but with only 1 big product (+1 little sidekick) each box, I worry that if I don’t like it, it will feel like a big waste of money… plus I don’t want to commit to 3 months.

I’ve been jealous of almost every Avenue A box but I don’t work out much and have more workout clothes than I need unless I get some serious motivation / discipline! Sometimes Golden Tote or Stichfix look good but I have to try stuff on like Onderria. I was seriously eyeing Nina Garcia Quarterly (yay Suzie!) if I could just guarantee to get the tote in black… or another color that I prefer. I almost always want the Luxor boxes but I know I don’t need them so I can’t justify it. The jewelry boxes are interesting but I’m very picky and have a lot already.

Oh! I would LOVE to get a Net-a-Porter box… those always look soooo AMAZING! And I also really wanted some of those “A Night of Green Beauty” LE boxes – anyone else remember those? (sigh) I’m clearly a sucker for skincare / beauty.

Happy Friday Heat! I signed up for Love Goodly I am such a OLO whore lol. I only had bought one Net-A-Porter though. That box was calling me. Sub Bella was into “A Night of Green Beauty” but I only was interested in one of the boxes but not enough to purchase. I think that series is an annual thing so look at a past post there must be a way to sign up for those updates.

    • March 23, 2017 at 10:50 pm

Now I’ve been eyeing more Luxe boxes… Do I need Avenue A? Not really… I don’t work out… but maybe buying nice workout clothes will encourage me? Haha probably not.
