Pnut and Onderria are going to unpack this box together! And look who is it… Subscriptionista as well!!! Let’s discuss.
July’s Theme: The themes this month are: fireflies, bonfire, camp, sand, and fireworks.
Subscriptionista: I find it kinda weird that there is nary a sandfly in the ENTIRE box… I felt a little cheated straight away…
Newsflash: PopSugar forgot to add s’mores and/or anything with chocolate, villagers were up in arms.
Going straight for the noms. Wait? It’s in this box?
Yum. Crunchy noms. Very delicate crunchy noms. So delicate that I might make some breaded chicken or fish with this nom dust (but apparently I eat nom dust for breakfast so breading was not an option). Like I gave Squeakette one full cracker square and she did not approve of it (she politely spits it out on the floor and drops the offending item). I swear that little square shattered into twenty pieces. So if you give this to toddling toddlers, have a broom and/or vacuum ready!
A fancy version of Cheez Its!
Subscriptionista: I thought these were cat treats when I took them out and got kinda excited. Finally a cheesy cat treat for fancy paws! But, no, they were for hoomans. I kinda wanna make parma crisps that they sometimes have out at Italian restaurants but then I looked at a recipe and it had the calorie count which bummed me out big time…
After trying some crackers, I identified the taste back to my childhood. I kept thinking of what could it be. I kept thinking subscription box. Then I remembered in the days of yore when subscription boxes called “fruit and/or cheese of the month” boxes were delivered on a monthly basis. After some Googling, this reminds me of Hickory Farm cheese!!!
Note that Hickory Farms does not have a subscription box. Maybe they did back in the days of my weehold. I used to be one of those kids that would nibble on a petit four and put it back. I digress.
Onderria: My crackers came in a little folded cardboard and they were all smashed. BUT I love gouda, and thought these delicious, if a bit too salty. Bella loved them as well, so clearly the powdered cheese is legit.
I received a box of fancy matches I think half the size of this in a Quarterly (AKA Randomly) box. I like it much more fancy when you need to light something without burning your fingers that is for sure. But that goes into one of the bathrooms. I digress. I opened the plastic wrapper packaging and after struggling to open the box I lit up a almost finished candle and then extinguished the frame over the running faucet. I felt an inside “ahhhhh” from not getting pissed off at the “candle lighter” lighter because the childproof safety switch is really an humanproof safety switch.
Random: I just used the PopSugar beach towel from this brand!
Onderria: This was a neat idea, but not something I’ll use. I’ve definitely not seen fancy long matches in a box, so props to PSMH.
Subscriptionista: I imagine this is useful for people who can be trusted with fire, or things that start fires. I can barely manage two pots on a stove let alone be the person to light a fireplace or BBQ. I like that it says California, because that is where I live! Anyway, I sorta wanna go on Naked and Afraid and pull these out as one of the items that I brought and watch my partner lose his mind and all respect for me before we even feel gnawing hunger. I will prattle on and on about how I am “excited to curate the hut,” and occasionally bellow out songs about California… I could get a spin off!
Yup that’s me fist bumping sunscreen. Man I got tan. I digress. You know me. A lover of the sunscreen. The mousse makes it more interesting and enticing. And the “hole”lyness of the can dispenser intrigues me. It smells lovely too! Of course being its neat and smells lovely, it goes right in front of my sunscreen army for use.
It was likely also the fancy spelling of “mousse” too!
Onderria: As the girlfriend of a guy who refuses to accept that he burns and doesn’t necessarily “tan”, most of our sunscreen has disappeared because I drag him outside to be sprayed down on the weekends with his Hawaiian Tropic. But, he’s still gotten two burns this month. Anyway, this fancy sunscreen is staying with me!
Subscriptionista: I always think of Pnut when I get sunscreens. This one is interesting and if I score a trip soon then I will pack it. However if I make it to Winter and it does not get cracked open I will know who to send it too. Also, this could probably give you a great SPF Sun Friendly “whipped cream bikini” look if you are into that sort of thing… don’t lie I know you are!
As my Squeakers often say “I am not sure about this”. I want to know whether it softens after you wash it. It is thick I can tell you that much. But I already have T Towels from subscription boxes and I am not going to be suckered into using a scratchy one like the much lauded GlobeIn (although it does do a good job of not frizzing my freshly showered hair).
I got Turkish Towel issues obviously.
Onderria: I am a big Turkish towel fan. I’d been mooning after them for a bit, and then a couple years ago my mom got me some for Christmas. Sadly they’re pink, but since then I’ve received a green in a swap, a blue as a bridesmaid gift [Pnut, I ruined it immediately in the wash], and now I’ve got this lovely blue one that I took care in washing in cool water and drying on low.
Subscriptionista: I like the towel a lot. It has colors that are calm and reminds me of a true vacation. This is the sort of towel you take up to the condo/apartment pool and lay it out all prim and proper. You bring up a totally over the top cocktail with lots of fruit and make a big deal setting up your pool chair.. Then when everything is perfect you go over and dip one toe in the water and quickly pack all your stuff up again and leave. You will be the talk of the pool!
This is going to Pipsqueak’s teacher when she starts school. The school has a bring your own water bottle/tumbler to refill up with the water fountain (or home filtered water). I think it would be nice for her to switch it up.
Because free refills at the water fountain.
Onderria: My house has a plethora of beverage holders like regular cups, pint glasses, mugs, wine glasses, water bottles, and coffee tumblers. So, I already have two cups like this. While I wasn’t initially excited, I’m tempted to use this instead of my Rum Chata one since I can’t bring that into a school.
Subscriptionista: I dunno, I am not super into getting cups like this. I mean, I can use it to bring up to the pool. Or like, for a roadie when I wanna drink a mimosa… but I also wanna walk around without getting arrested.
Going to save this bad boy for when I need to wear makeup on a hot day so at least my eyes don’t smoke up as the rest of my makeup melts off.
Onderria: This is my favorite brand of mascara!! The packaging is awesome and makes me feel soooo fancy. I’ve got a few mascaras waiting on the sidelines… but I may have to bump them for this tarte 😉
Subscriptionista: This mascara does feel different. The actual packaging makes it feel like leather or something. It makes me feel like it could be one of those 007 Bond gadgets. LLike, instead of helping lashes it secretly holds a dagger of fish toxins or something. I haven’t fleshed that idea out all the way, but if mascara had fan fiction I think this mascara would be popular!
Good box but PopSugar could have done much more with the themes. Even though I love the cheese nom, I really felt that some chocolate variety of s’mores should have been involved.
I submit Exhibit A:
Onderria: I’m pretty sure I told Pnut that I didn’t like this box much, but after having everything and writing about them, I do like it. I’ll use everything but the matches, and since I live with a fire pit I’m sure the boys will use them.
Subscriptionista: I also felt like this needed to have something like the picture in it. I mean… cheese crackers do not a s’mores tower make! I was surprised with how heavy the box was considering the items didn’t seem like a lot when I took them all out. I don’t feel cheated getting this box, but it was not my total favorite. I think the towel saved it.
