Margot Elena Discovery Subscription Box Review – Winter 2017

Subscription: Margot Elena Discovery Box

Cost: $49.99 per season/quarter, $160/year

Description: “Discover the world of All Things Beautiful with the Margot Elena Discovery Box filled with over $200 worth of full-sized products curated by our team.”

I can’t believe this already arrived! It said the week of December 11th the boxes were shipping, and it arrived December 16th. BIG box too!

But first! The box is so big because I got a free extra for ordering over Black Friday weekend.

Lollia The Air I’m Breathing no. 50 Poetic License Candle: $34, no longer available. “Fragrance Notes: Orange Blossom, Bergamot; White Tea, Bamboo, Pressed Petals; Nutmeg, Ginger Root, Thyme.”

This candle smells pretty good. It seems to be old stock or something, but smells nice so I’m happy 😍

I think this week I doubled my candle collection… Bath & Bodyworks had a $12 three-wick candle sale so I bought two, I got two ME candles in this box, then my boyfriend’s mom gave me her amazing woodwick candle from the White Elephant swap tonight! Pnut needs to come candle huffing with me!

The actual subscription box is much smaller, and absolutely gorgeous!!!

What’s inside?

OMG SO MUCH STUFF!!! I was totally not expecting there to be this much stuff!! Let’s dig in.

Lollia Wish Travel Handcreme: $15 for 1.25oz, “Infused in this compact formulation of moisturizing velvet, you’ll discover a light floral celebration of Warm Vanilla Bean and Rice Flower delicately frosted with Sugared Pastille.”

The Cottage Greenhouse Cucumber & Honey Handcreme: $15 for 2oz, “irresistible botanic balm that absorbs quickly, soothing even the most demanding dry skin.”

The cucumber lotion is being gifted to my mom because she loves fresh scents, but the other one I’m not sure about. I don’t like vanilla scented things, so I’ll probably gift it as well. I love the packaging on the Lollia box!!!

Lollia Relax Perfumed Shower Gel: $22 for 8oz, “Condition and cleanse through fresh Botanical extracts, and honey-rich emollients of Shea Butter & Jojoba Oil. Hydrate and bask inside an exotic blend of Lavender, Bee Blossom Honey, White Orchids, and warm Indian Amber delicately completed with a touch of Tahitian Vanilla.”

This description sounds amaaaaazing!!! It smells pretty good, too! But, I’ve got the Lollia shower gel from PSMH, and I don’t really need another shower gel for a while. My mom, however, always gave us bath things in our Christmas stockings, so this will also go to her.

Also, the gel feel is a bit off-putting to me. I also learned that a little goes a LONG way! My shower was coated in multiplying sudsy suds.

TokyoMilk Stationery Set of Five: $25, or $5 each

These are really lovely! I used to write a lot of letters, and I’ve been trying to get back to it, so this is a good push. I love the glitter and the animals.

Library of Flowers Honeycomb Shea Butter Soap: $11 for 5oz, “Sugared Fig, Ambrosia Honey, Royal Bee Blossom”

This smells wonderfull!! My sister will be getting this in her stocking.

TokyoMilk Just Desserts Mini Soap Trio: $10 for 1.25oz, “Crisp Apples, Peaches, Violets & Roses”

These lil cuties are going to my sister-in-law, who is my sibling Secret Santa swap partner.

Subista’s nemesis!!! I don’t really like tiny bar soaps, but my sisters do! I’m a body wash and loofah sort of gal.

TokyoMilk Dandelion Girl Cosmetic Bag: $14

This isn’t on the website, but there are similar bags. It’s cute, but I have a million small bags, so I’m using it to gift my sister-in-law’s present.

I always kinda wanted to be Thumbelina, and this lady reminds me of her.

TokyoMilk Gin & Rosewater Travel Candle: $12 for 4oz, “Citrus Zest, Rosewood, Mimosa & Mandarin.”

Omg, this smells amaaaazing and I’m keeping it for myself!

I’m going to travel ALL over with it. I think one old post about “who is traveling with candles!?” was one of my favorite Sub-sistah discussions.

Library of Flowers Pinion Incense: $15

This isn’t on the site at all, and I’m quite curious about it.

But, without wanting to open it up because maybe I won’t like it and want to gift it.

TokyoMilk Rose with Bees Tote Bag: $18

This isn’t on the site either, and I might use this to give a gift as well. It’s quite pretty, and would make a lovely regiftable tote!

TokyoMilk Tainted Love Handcreme: $22 for 2.65oz, “Dark Vanilla Bean, Orchid, White Tea, Sandalwood.”

This sounds fabulous, and I’ve got a dark TokyoMilk perfume sample that I love. So, this is mine to keep.

Do I need more lotion? Uh no. But I will use it!

TokyoMilk Kabuki Perfumed Drawer Liners: $18 “limited edition”

This is pretty neat, and another exclusive box item. My mom used to spray perfume onto pretty wrapping paper and put it into my dresser, so I really like this pre-scented paper! I’ll put them into my own dresser for nostalgic purposes.

And also because my boyfriend hates my musty pajama drawer scent [which I love].

TokyoMilk Kiss of the Mermaid Lip Balm: $10, “Sugared Rose flavor.”

This will likely be gifted as well because it is “with sugared rose,” and I dislike rose scents.

A rose scented item by any other name would still smell just as yucky.

Verdict: Did I need this box? Absolutely not!! But, wow, Margot Elana NAILED IT! They promised $200 RV, and hit $207. I was looking at this box as a great way to gift things to friends throughout the year, but I definitely was not expecting the quantity of items [I definitely didn’t see the price point before]! So, that was a wonderful surprise, and I have way more stuff to gift to people now. Also, McBoyfriend saw this box [plus the Atelier cologne calendar from Dayle] and pointed out that he never has to ever give me scented things ever ever again! >v<

For future boxes, I’d love to see some Library of Flowers fabric, though it’s a bit risque in a beauty sub box [what’s a non-sewer to do with fabric?]. There was nothing from Love&Toast, which was a bummer because that was my first Margot Elena line that I ever purchased something from. I think it might be a more teen-focused perfume line, but I still have a bottle of the gin blossom perfume that I wear on summer days. This box was quite heavy on the TokyoMilk, with 8 of 13 products sourced from that line, so I am curious to see if future boxes will feature The Cottage Greenhouse, Lollia, and Library of Flowers more.

Disclosure: I purchased this box with my own moolah. There are no referral codes.

Great review! I have to keep an eye on this box. I love their interesting mix in this box. I don’t think I heard about them before their Black Friday Sale. I’m so jelly belly and I’m not talking about the candy. Looking forward to seeing future boxes.

Yeah, it’s a brand new sub this winter, but I hadn’t heard of it before Black Friday either! Also, I definitely want some Jelly Belly candies ;D

Loved this review knew you would not regret it! I have Lollia relax handcream from a BB LE box I like the scent. Speaking of scents candle huffing sounds like a good thing except Pier One candle huffing.

Are Pier1 candles crappy huffables? I don’t hardly ever go in there because it’s usually in weird spots, and I’m more of a homegoods window shopper. I’m also incredibly picky with candles because my nose is very sensitive! I don’t like vanilla, rose, or patchouli anything, and I tend to dislike really strong, spiced, or islandy scents. I love citrus, balsam, and musky scents [like Bath & Bodyworks’ Mahogany Teakwood <3].

Whenever I go into Pier1 I believe its their candles. I can’t describe the scent other than “stinky”. I like most scents but really not into buying “food”, patchouli, or ylangy scents. I am picky about vanilla scents but the other scents that you mentioned (like and dislike) I like. I heard raves about that BBW Mahogany Teakwood I would have ordered candles during that awesome sale but went on strike because they don’t stack codes online.
This Jersey girl rarely if ever goes to the mall nowadays and on a blue moon perhaps an outlet or two in a year. Long live the Amazon 😉

PS I just got a Pier 1 candle from a subscription box that smells like Pier 1. Hubbie agreed that it smelled like Pier 1. Housewarming present pile it goes. Review to be posted soon 😉

I wanted fabric, too! I love my box as is though 🙂 BTW my lip balm doesn’t smell like much of anything, let alone rose.

Thanks, Jenai–I’ll give it a test =D What would you do with some of the lovely fabric?

OMG I’m loving this nostalgic floral packaging! I’m seriously swooning as this is one of the most visually appealing subscription boxes I’ve seen in a long time!
