My prior produce subscription box experience:

I previously was subscribed at a local farmer’s market weekly delivered produce box with fresh farm eggs. The only thing that weekly box got for me were fresh farm eggs and my produce was more like about to expire. I also had a friend at the time who did an fresh farm egg and produce CSA but she had to pick it up and it was expensive.

We traded pictures on a weekly basis like us subscription box junkies who live on spoilers. She also subscribes to boxes. I digress.

We both had a forced weekly option with no ability to skip. Her produce looked awesome but she was made to use what was given to her. My produce looked sad and I also had to use (or unfortunately waste) what our family did not like.

Since this was my first order with Imperfect Produce and I was serious about making this a commitment (plus the $4.99 flat ship rate yes please), I ordered two boxes (medium and extra large) to see what the difference and size between the two boxes. Because I am visual like that.

And we gobble up a ton of fruit in this family!

This is my first week, but from what I can tell was that via customization, I could basically order whatever I wanted and the price would tally up in the end. I took off some of the default recommendations and added on what I wanted. Imperfect Produce reserved some high demand items as I was not able to add more but I was locked into receiving the produce if I wished to keep it. I was able to get fancy blood red oranges and pink lemons which I hardly see here! Also when you see the selections/options, their is a place of where the produce originated from and also what the “non-pretty” issue exactly is.

Here is my stuff for my first shipment!

All Fruit Box 1
    Conventional Apples (2 ct) 3
    Conventional Asparagus (1 ct) 2
    Conventional Avocados (2 ct) 2
Conventional Blood Oranges (2 ct) 1
    Conventional Broccoli Crowns (1ct) 2
    Conventional Grapefruit (1 ct) 6
    Conventional Grapes (1ct) 1
Conventional Kale Bunch (1 ct) 2
    Conventional Kiwis (4 ct) 4
    Conventional Pink Lemons (2ct) 2

Conventional Spaghetti Squash (1 ct) 2
Mixed Fruit & Veggie Box 1

See anything I wanted! I might have gone overboard lol.
I got my delivery around mid-time where my delivery window was at (deliver windows are set for afternoon to the late evening). The delivery man followed my instructions to a “T” and was very friendly and courteous. I asked him whether he was a third-party delivery service but he said that he works for Imperfect Produce. That is a plus!
Here are the boxes!

Imperfect Produce

VERDICT:

I LOVE Imperfect Produce. I could not afford or use up a CSA because of the quantity (feast or famine depending on harvest) and the high price. Another issue is that before Imperfect Produce, the other selections had no customization. I have a hard time picking out the freshest produce. Imperfect Produce does this for me and I save money because its “not pretty looking”. And most of all I can customize my box with produce that I want! I am also excited about changing inventory to what might pop up seasonally! I have seen and heard of MUSHROOMS! And Imperfect Produce has some fancy produce that would have cost me an arm and a leg if I saw the same perfect variety at the fancier whole paycheck stores. There is last waste in the world and I get another subscription box fix.

I plan on ordering the Extra Large Fruits and Veggie box on a weekly basis and just adding whatever my heart desires for that week on Monday (my delivery day is on Thursday). Hopefully I will be able to post these but I am a bit behind with my Home Chef recipes (see my Home Chef reviews here) but I will do my best for you all 🙂

Now I need to find a good place to have fresh farm eggs sent to me. Ahhh a pilgrimage to a farmer’s market to stock up awaits me until then 😉

This box seems so cool! They were actually advertising at a festival in my neighborhood a year or two ago… but they don’t delivery here, or anywhere near here. Why on earth would they waste time and money advertising to an area they don’t service?!?!? But your boxes looks great and I will have to keep an eye out for it in the future!

Thanks Ake! I am going to attempt to update the location with future reviews. I want to get a box for next week but I have too much right now since I ordered two. So I think the next review should be in two weeks. I am totally excited probably because of the waiting for the weekly delivery when I did the local farmers market box awhile back.
