Box: Imperfect Produce (this link gives you $10 and me $10 when you sign up)!

Contents: Perfect and fresh but allegedly ugly looking produce that the experts select so you can save money and not leave your home.

1 in 5 fruits and veggies grown in the U.S. don’t meet cosmetic standards and go to waste! Imperfect Produce changes this and you get the savings and the freshness!

This is awesome considering that I pay good money for pretty produce that goes bad quickly before Imperfect Produce came into my life.

Being that this was my second order and I previously ordered two Mixed Fruit and Veggie boxes, I found it easy to cancel the smaller box online.

No corresponding via email, chat or phone to cancel!?! Whew easy button yes please!

So I just went for the Mixed Fruit and Veggie in Extra Large and changed my order from bi-weekly to weekly. Online.

Easy Button = Love

So I went to customize my box and everything was already set for me with the price point for the Extra Large Mixed Fruit and Veggie. So I happily added and deleted items. And went back. And went back again. Hey, I have until 11:59PM Tuesday night for a Thursday delivery.

Even though I did not order the Organic Fruit and Vegetable box, I was still able to customize and add-on organic stuff!!!

Also, there are “demand” items and Imperfect makes sure you at least get 1 unit in your box. You can find out if you have a demand item during your customization if you try to add on a quantity and you get a “Sold Out” pop up.

Therefore I had a serious case of FOMO when I discovered that the purple potatoes were “Sold Out”. I really did not want purple potatoes in my box. But FOMO (fear of missing out), I left my reserved unit in my box.

And do you want to know why these purple potatoes were on Imperfect this week? SURPLUS!!! So these are pretty perfect potatoes at $1.09 for 1 pound!

Here are some picts of how I used last week’s Imperfect Order:

Imperfect Produce

This is a cut up pink lemon in a quart sized mason jar. I found that with the lemon I was able to drink more water.

And drinking more water is aways a good thing!

Imperfect Produce

Here is my half of my baked spaghetti squash. My husband ate his half with honey. I like to snack on spaghetti squash it is fun getting all the “ghetti” strings  and eating it with a fork. I am trying to get my head wrapped around the idea of using it as a pasta substitute.

Do you have a good recipe for spaghetti squash to recommend?

Imperfect Produce

Here is a simple recipe using Imperfect potatoes with some ALDI kielbasa and some The Spice House seasoning. I love ALDI but my husband does not even though its sister/cousin to Trader Joes. Now that we do not need to get produce from ALDI I might convince him for us to shop at ALDI more often. ALDI has the discontinued (but repackaged as ALDI) quad hummus that Trader Joe had. This hummus quad has both roasted pepper and jalepeno cilantro hummus (the other two is yummy garlic and traditional).

And I hate roasted peppers and jalepeno so that gives some credit to that hummus quad!

Imperfect Produce

Here is the yummy asparagus. I sprayed the foil with olive oil, then some salt and pepper. Tossed the asparagus and topped with some The Spice House seasoning. Broiled. Nommed.

I digress,

let’s go back to this week’s delivery!

I LOVE that my delivery person follows directions. They deliver directly to my apartment door. Also, my directions say something to the effect of “lightly” buzzing the apartment bell.

So much better than the angry BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEEEP that other delivery guys do.

I do have to say the kids don’t mind the buzzing its more of a “me” thing.

Do you get irritated at angry buzzers?

Anyways, here is my box!

VERDICT:

I HEART Imperfect Produce. I am saving money and the environment (which serves my crunchy-wanna-be-self). I love that unlike a CSA, I can customize what I want and order as much or as little as I like. I am excited about what holds for next week.

And one point that I realize is that I am getting my boxes weekly NOW (and during CSA off-season) versus if I was a CSA I would only have a limited amount of weeks, and those weeks correspond to what I can grow in my community garden plot.

I am making less last waste in the world and I get another subscription box fix.

And one of these weeks, my Imperfect will provide (legal) mushrooms I keep hearing about!

Do you order your produce via CSA, a farmer’s market, or Imperfect Produce?

Disclaimer: I bought this box with my own clams. There are referral links in this post.

Omg definitely need to sign up! I like this a lot. Also I like that you showed how you used your produce. I love spaghetti squash baked with meatballs and spaghetti sauce. There are so many recipes too.

I know! They serve your area too 😉 Imperfect gave a recipe card last week but you know sometimes I forget to take picts of those “filler” informational cards. It is definately easier to show pictures of end product in a review then the recipe steps for sure 🙂 That sounds like a good spaghetti squash recipe with meat… maybe a baked primavera for me to dive into first….

That’s my go-to for spaghetti squash too! I like it with lots of tomato sauce.

Hmmmm… sauce and cheese I think I could. Maybe I will try it with butter and some cheese first. Pnut steps 😉
