Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit Review – 2018

Box: Sephora Favorites: Sun Safety Kit 2018 (Sephora pulled the link on 4/12 instead of stating that kit is no longer available online)

Cost: $36 (sold out online on 4/12)

Deets: The last Sephora Sun Safety Kit that I bought was in 2015. I was not happy (and sad) with the 2016 and 2017 boxes because I loved to get them but found that those kits had ton of products repeats with also too many bronzing products. This year only had one bronzing product and for $4 more (and an increase in donation by Sephora), we got a full size product and a travel size product! The vast majority of the items were also SPF 30 or higher! We got some good standby repeats (which I will note if I previously tried them out) and some newbies to the kit so I was more than happy to plunk down some clams to get this year’s edition.

Also, I had my sunscreens previously hoarded and organized by expiration date. And I squirreled this pouch somewhere. So the absence of my sunscreen stash being MIA it made it more easier for me to snap this kit up.

Here is the pouch up close and personal!

2018 Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit

I am not impressed. Sephora usually does a good job at the pouches/containers in its Sephora Sun Safety Kits.

2018 Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit

The Good: It is lined. The FOB is detachable.

The Bad: The pink trim is crappy. The beautiful straw outside is already shedding.

The Ugly: Cheap. The pouch’s durability will not last long.

Here are the contents…

FULL SIZE Lancome BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen 1.7 oz/50 mL

FULL SIZE Lancome BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen 1.7 oz/50 mL

I am happy to have a full size pricey product from Lancome. I am not happy not to have an GWP attached to this full size Lancome. Just because I was (perhaps a still recovering) GWP addict.

I am pretty sure most of us sub addicts originally were/are GWP addicts.

TRAVEL SIZE  Supergoop! Super Power Sunscreen Mousse SPF 50 3.4 oz/100 mL

TRAVEL SIZE  Supergoop! Super Power Sunscreen Mousse SPF 50 3.4 oz/100 mL

This came in a PopSugar box right? Even though I had my surplus sunscreen stash at the time, I could not resist this fancy packaging and mousse form and used this up happily. I am stoked to get another!

Does this sunscreen give me super powers?

AMORE PACIFIC Resort Collection Sun Protection Mist SPF 30 1.01 oz/30 mL

AMORE PACIFIC Resort Collection Sun Protection Mist SPF 30 1.01 oz/30 mL

A touchup spray is always useful as a touchup. Or as an emergency I-forgot-to-put-face-sunscreen-quick-quick-spray-spray-ma-face.

Regardless, I like spraying ma face with fancy mists.

COOLA Rosilliance Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30 in Light/Medium 0.17 oz/5 mL

COOLA Rosilliance Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30 in Light/Medium 0.17 oz/5 mL

I heart COOLA. So much that I splurged and bought a yummy SPF 50 spray so I can get Sephora free shipping. Versus getting it via Amazon Save and Subscribe.

But I have the Amazon on my radar. Always and forever.

Clinique Pep-Start Moisturizer SPF 20 0.24 oz/7 mL

 Clinique Pep-Start Moisturizer SPF 20 0.24 oz/7 mL

I got this in a Sephora Play! back in the day. Nothing special. Love the marketing use of “Pep-Start” it gives me a little placebo affect of being pepped up.

Will this sunscreen make me more peppy?

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30 0.33 oz/10 mL

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30 0.33 oz/10 mL

I read this somewhere that this product is sold out and/or is hard to get. I am giddy just for the fact that this green product (looks even better in person) morphed into a complimenting flesh tone to match your face when applied.

Much better for the green grass tone to turn into a flesh tone rather than tiger tones.

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Pad Self-Tanner for Face 3 x 0.21 oz/6.6 mL

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Pad Self-Tanner for Face 3 x 0.21 oz/6.6 mL

Ugh. At least it was one bronzing product this year. I wished for a pressed bronzer. Not that I have a ton already of pressed bronzer. But at least it would have been part of my army of bronzers.

Maybe this will create tiger tones…

Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense SPF 30 0.5 oz/15 mL

Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense SPF 30 0.5 oz/15 mL

I have not fallen in love with Drunk Elephant. Maybe this product will change my mind.

I don’t trust drunk animals.

Farmacy Green Screen Daily Environmental Protector Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 0.34 oz/10 mL

Farmacy Green Screen Daily Environmental Protector Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 0.34 oz/10 mL

On the other hand, I do love myself some Farmacy products. I look forward to using this product up.

I think Farmacy should open free-standing stores with a pharmacy for convenience.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 in Rose 0.07 oz/2.2 g

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 in Rose 0.07 oz/2.2 g

I really do not get the fuss over Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments. First, no sugar(ish)nish is involved. Second, this is a melty product. Third, you need to be gentle when using this product because it breaks.

My my my I am “fresh” about Fresh!

Murad Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield SPF 30 PA+++ 0.17 oz/5 mL

Murad Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield SPF 30 PA+++ 0.17 oz/5 mL

A repeat.

Nothing special here. Move along.

Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Lotion SPF 30 0.5 oz/15 mL

Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Lotion SPF 30 0.5 oz/15 mL

A much loved and wanted repeat. I have purchased this product full sized several times over before subscription boxes gave me an ample supply of sunscreen. This does not burn ma eyes like a plumber’s crack does.

Does anyone remember Phoebe and her blinding “My Eyes” commentary?

Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker Multi-Rejuvenating Cream SPF 30 0.25 oz/7 mL

Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker Multi-Rejuvenating Cream SPF 30 0.25 oz/7 mL

I like Philosophy. Not so much to buy its products now that I receive them in subscription boxes but I am glad that Sephora switched up the sunscreen offered by this brand because I was not really into the repeated philosophy sunscreen that was offered in past kits.

If I use this, will it rejuvenate me and be a miracle worker? Is this a replacement for coffee?

REN Evercalm™ Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask 0.34 oz/10 mL

REN Evercalm™ Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask 0.34 oz/10 mL

A consolation sample for when you burn yourself because you did not apply one of the many sunscreens in this kit that you just bought.

Will this mask make me ever calm?

Shiseido Wetforce Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50+ for Face/Body 0.23 oz/7 mL

Shiseido Wetforce Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50+ for Face/Body 0.23 oz/7 mL

I bet this gives me a white cast. Every Shiseido sunscreen product I have ever sampled has given me a white cast. But Shiseido sunscreen has a cult following for those patient enough to rub/pat/apply and defeat the white cast issue. I am persistent, but not when it comes to white casted sunscreen.

Anything quirky I want to write down sounds ummm “What she said” so I will leave the word “Wetforce” up to Shiseido’s Marketing Department.

Tarte Tarteguard 30 Vegan Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 0.23 oz/7 mL

Tarte Tarteguard 30 Vegan Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 0.23 oz/7 mL

Received in subscription boxes before. A darling but nothing special. Well a little more special than not special.

Tarte is such a tart of subscription boxes. And it’s a great brand. Keep being a tart Tarte.

Here are my 3 Samples if you must know…

Sephora Samples

And my coded extra for a Nest sample… I did not realize it was in rollerball form!

Rollerballs… for when you don’t want to travel with a perfume sample spilling all over you.

Sephora Code for Nest Rollerball

I blowed 250 Sephora BI points on the usual… a mini perfume sample.

250 Sephora BI points

And my guilty pleasure (sunscreen in spray form).

Not via the Amazon for Save and Subscribe but via Sephora for free ship 😉

Coola Eco-Lux SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray

2018 Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit

Verdict:

After seeing two years of disappointment (in my eyes), I am pretty happy to jump back on the Sephora Sun Safety Kit wagon! Now I am actually looking forward to next year’s kit.

This is a great kit! I thought about ordering it, but knew I’d get the “look” from my dear husband if I did. I still have a basket full of sunscreens that I need to use before I buy anymore. But, dang, subscription boxes and these kits are sooo hard to resist! Sometimes I wish I had never stumbled across them. But then again, if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have stumbled across this website

Susie you are soooo sweet thank you for your commenting!

Maybe you should have your sunscreen stash MIA like mine currently is lol 😉 Anyways its going to be a trip to Sephora if you want one since they sold out online. The plus side is depending on your Sephora status there is a minimum 10% discount starting now (now for Rouge I think their discount is 15%) and on the 20th for those that spend their money on sub boxes like moi (VIB just requires a sign up).

I didn’t get the kits the last 2 years. They just didn’t interest me enough. This kit…this kit is it. There are products I want to try and products I didn’t even know existed. I am excited about ALL of it. I also like the clutch. I don’t expect it to be high quality but I do think it is cute and I love the little keychain thing.

I had this in my on line shopping cart but was waiting for the VIB rouge sale yesterday. As you said, it was no longer available on line. I am glad you reviewed and it looks like it really was a good deal. Honestly though, I don’t need any more sunscreen! I was planning to give the Lancôme to my mom, so I am a little sad about that but not enough to go out in the thunder/snow storms that we are having in Iowa today though!

Did you get the three free samples you requested? I have found that my last three orders they didn’t even come close to matching what I had selected.

I do like the Fresh lippies because they feel like a “safe” way to add some color to your lips if you don’t have a mirror. I always have one in my desk at work and in my purse.

      It’s rainy here today :/

I think I got the three samples I requested. I noted awhile back that one of my samples was not in stock (pretty sure that delayed my order) but I am not sure whether that Stella perfume was my first selection or whether I choose another perfume sample. I only order from Sephora 1-3 times a year usually when there is a product launches that I want like a Sephora Favorites Kit or those Black Friday value sets.

I wish I would like the Fresh lippies more they are packaged so beautifully (and you are right about the easy to apply without a mirror). I also feel the same about Bite lippies but most of those lippies need a mirror 😉

Thank you for commenting Dayle 😀

I didn’t buy the last two years either for the same reason. This year’s looked much better, but I was slow and it sold out. Glad you got one though!

For what it’s worth, I like some Shiseido sunscreens, but that Wetforce is the whitest of white-casts. Makes me look like a sheet of paper. So weird. Would not recommend putting it on your face!

      Thanks for your commentary Ake!

Heart the commentaries that I am not the only one who skipped the sun kit for the last two years. Its funny that the marketing line under wetforce claims its invisible. Obviously Marketing doesn’t sample products lol.
