Birchbox Subscription Curated Box Review – January 2019

Obvious Confession: I have what is known as a “$10 Subscription Box Itch”

Subscription: Birchbox

Cost:

Monthly $10.00

Yearly: $110.00 (you get one month free)!

What To Expect:

At least 5 items allegedly based on a profile.

Kick Back and Get Comfortable:

So after a two year separation from Birchbox because I was sad that they stopped points and would lose my ACE status, I came back.

Our loyal reader Ake put it perfectly that I had an subscription box “itch” to scratch.

And if you missed my first box review of my year subscription, I have put any items that I plan not to use in a “gift pile for you” baggie.

Gift pile for you!

You would appreciate this more if you like the Seinfeld spin reference and/or a hoarder that needs to be brought to reality.

To which I am both.

Let’s see this box.

I love collecting/hoarding Birchboxes.

Birchbox – January 2019

Actually I used 80-90% of my old Birchboxes for holiday gifts.

Preschoolers have a lot of teachers. Excuses to get more “boxes” lol.

Let’s see the insert.

Notice I said see instead of read.

[ comfort zone ] Hydramemory Cream Gel
[ comfort zone ] Hydramemory Cream Gel

I was surprised by this. The cream does turn into a gel. It is more moisturing than Dr. Jart’s Water Drop but not as cool because the Water Drop actually turns into dewdrops.

I am so into dewdrops.

ARROW ENHANCE Waterproof Eye Brightener

Full size? Yes please for the gift pile!

Gift Pile for you!

Why you ask?

Do any of you remember the above unicorn when everyone had a Birchbox subscription and the subscription box community went nuts over Vasanti Kajal Eyeliner?

Well I am still using it. Slowly. I am a one eyeliner highlighter little lady over here!

Design.ME Fab.ME Hair Treatment

Design.ME Fab.ME Hair Treatment

This is not spectacular, but I will use this up and then refill it with another leave in conditioner for on the go brushing of my Pnut people’s hair.

Remember when you were young and your parents brushed your hair. And you were lucky if you got a leave in conditioner. Callbacks to Infusium 23 anyone?

M·A·C Cosmetics In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash Mascara

M·A·C Cosmetics In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash Mascara

Got this last month. But I adore almost anything MAC. I adore this mascara. Birchbox can just send me these MAC mascaras as mascara samples and I will be as happy as a clam.

And as a sample addict, I will hoard my preciouses.

Blaq Peel Off Mask

Blaq Peel Off Mask

Ok it was the moment of truth. I already used this mask and its not as great as Biore nose strip but does the job, especially when you want to paint your face with another peel off mask.

You know, that won’t rip your skin off like the Blaq does.

Anyways, I used the Blag mask from the middle of my forehead, painted down my nose bridge and sides (gotta get those blackheads), and chin. First thing I noticed that the color was Goth Black. I guess the below picture does not do it justice but its a picture of my FabFitFun Glamglow peel mask meeting Blaq.

Pretty Pony Sparkles.

Just a side-note, because I love highjacking reviews with random reviews, but the GlamGlow My Little Pony mask is the same as the non-pony mask. The My Little Pony has cuter packaging, stickers, and the brush bristles are pink versus the non-pony mask.

I know this personally because yours truly bought both masks via FabFitFun’s sale.

If any of the two above masks appear on a future FabFitFun sale I will probably snap one (but not two or three) up.

Before the verdict, here is the third month’s Gift Pile For You!

I DID find another bag. But it was too big. So it’s back to the recycled bag.

Please reforgive the recycled look of the bag.

Three months = Three items.

This month’s highlighter is so ashamed it’s camouflaging itself.

Birchbox – January 2019

Verdict:

After thinking about it, I realized why I self-diagnosed myself with a 2 year “$10 Birchbox subscription box itch”. It is because I love having a choice.

I love to be spoiled.

This is why I subscribe sporadically to Allure and ditched my Sephora Play! subscription. I was happier with Sephora Play! when I was able to choose my box whenever they had a sale rather than an actual subscription.

Variations make me twitch.

My itch has been scratched.

I wonder whether the itch will go away in another 9 months. Stay tuned.

Next month I will be reviewing Birchbox’s Curated Box for February 2019.

Because I have a fondness of full spoilers rather than surprises.

I am loving the February 2019 box! Definitely no “Gift Pile For You” next month!

Nothing like classic but trustworthy sample repeats for this sample addict.

Thanks for reminding me that I have a nice, large sample of the Dr. Jart waterdrop cream to try! You make it sound very promising.

Thanks Ake! The cream gel I just reviewed is much more moisturizing and great for winter and dry/normal skin. The Water Drop is good for normal/oily and summer as it is a lightweight moisturizer.
Enjoy your sample I forgot where I got my first one [edited: Sephora Play!] but my second one was via one of the holiday Sephora sets. It really sparks joy for me and I should devote a post to it one of these days.

I’ll hold off on it for another few months then!

We do love what we got from Ecocentric but the plastic/metal/bamboo/paper straw market is sooooo overwhelming and I am not a straw expert lol.
