Birchbox Subscription Box Review – February 2019

Confession:

I have what is known as a “$10 Subscription Box Itch”

Birchbox

Subscription: Birchbox

Cost:

Monthly $10.00

Yearly: $110.00 (you get one month free)!

What To Expect:

At least 5 items allegedly based on a profile.

Kick Back and Get Comfortable:

So after a two year separation from Birchbox because I was sad that they stopped points and would lose my ACE status, I came back.

Our loyal reader Ake put it perfectly that I had an subscription box “itch” to scratch.

And if you missed my first box review of my year subscription, I have put any items that I plan not to use in a “gift pile for you” baggie.

Gift pile for you!

You would appreciate this more if you like the Seinfeld spin reference and/or a hoarder that needs to be brought to reality.

To which I am both.

Theming:

I am theming February’s Curated Box As “A Throwback To My Early Adulthood”

AKA showing my age. I wonder if Birchbox planned this box for a certain generation.

I digress, I am going to start out with the most purchased/loved items of my 20s before I got “fancy”

Nexxus Therappe Humectress Ultimate Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner

Nexxus Therappe Humectress Ultimate Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner

Both me and my husband even before we met each other, both used the shampoo (he was and is still too cool not to use conditioner). I digress, we even bought Nexxus at the liter sales at ULTA! Its a classic and basic moisturizing shampoo (and conditioner) that is great for both normal and dry hair. It has a slight coconut scent that is not in your face and is not overwhelming I do not have to open up the packaging and I just remember the scent of my youth. This set lovingly went into the travel dopp pouch.

In my teens, this scent would have been Pantene ProV and Herbal Essences.

Avene Hydrance RICH Hydrating Cream

Avene Hydrance RICH Hydrating Cream

For someone who aspires to be a stereotypical french girl, I really do not give Avene and Clarins that much love. Maybe its because in my GWP days these brands where whored out. Anyway, I do like Avene better than Clarins as I find their products more moisturizing. I slathered this sample into ma face and it sopped up all the hydrating goodness. Then the tube went somewhere random so if I fish for a moisturizer in a random pocket, it may appear.

For 2019, I now “Divide and Conquer” my moisturizer and sunscreen samples.

Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Pearl Primer

I am pretty sure this is Girl Meets Pearl repackaged but improved with magical primer properties. Which is a good thing. If you like primers with cones. This lovingly went into a makeup pouch.

Primers with wrinkle blurring cones. Yes please!

MAC Cosmetics Lipglass in Oyster Girl

Oh my goodness. If Chanel’s all-time classic perfume is No. 5,

then MAC Lipglass’s version from my time is Oyster Girl.

Pnut, your youth years called and it wants Oyster Girl back.

MAC Cosmetics Lipglass in Oyster Girl

Lovely sticky vanilla non-crunchy goodness. Something that I would only wear for nostalgia (and because it came in my Birchbox). I would put one coat on but my cousins would glop this all over their lips and they have yearbook photos as documentation.

I am no longer a fan of sticky lipglosses but I will make an exception for my dear friend Oyster Girl.

Before the verdict, here is the fourth month’s Gift Pile For You!

The bag is unchanged from last month!

For the first quarter of my Birchbox subscription, that’s pretty good!

Birchbox

Verdict:

Other than showing my age, I absolutely loved this box. It made be feel a bit younger than older which is always a good thing. This box is an equivalent of a subscription box sheet mask.

My itch has been scratched.

I wonder whether the itch will go away in another 8 months. Stay tuned.

For March, I will be reviewing Birchbox’s Curated Box for March 2019.

Because I have a fondness of full spoilers rather than surprises.

Did you try the primer? Is it any good? I have GIANT pores that I need to blur/hide.

Yes! It is not potent as the original porefessionsal though but makes up for it with glowiness. Are you near a Sephora try to get samples of those two and whatever Smashbox primers they suggest. Smashbox original is my goto and what I have purchased when I run out of sub box primer. Hint: the smaller Smashbox is way more economicsl than the bigger size.

Thanks for the tip. There’s a Sephora near me, but I’ve never actually shopped there because Ulta is easier to get to.

LC! I am browsing Sephora adding stuff to my cart to meet the $50 free ship when the Sun Kit comes out. I saw this and I am going to put it in my cart less than $5 for an ounce! THE ORDINARY High-Adherence Silicone Primer online only… it might not make the final cut but it’s on my buy list when I run out of primers.
