French Box March 2015 Update

French Box, known for sending Dollar Store dumps packaged pretty in a bow, finally sent me replacement products in order to make up for the insulting box they sent last month. They decided that sending these products would serve to even things out rather then just refunding everyone’s money. Indeed, they sent me an email stating that they had credited my account by 30% and that I should expect more boxes at some point.

While it would have meant I had drank a very nice box of wine when I signed up for the annual subscription, I don’t think wine boxes come that big. I never signed up for a subscription that showed up whenever it felt like showing up and paying whatever price they came up with in the future. I wrote them and they said that I would have to wait a few weeks for my refund.

I seriously doubt they will be in business then. I cannot see why anyone would agree to give this box a second chance and not just demand their money back. So now I am disputing the charge with my credit card company. It sucks but serves as an important lesson when paying for annual subscriptions.

Included were a hand scrub and body wash. Because we were sent such old products in the past box I honestly cannot bring myself to even give these a whirl. I applaud other bloggers who can! I also didn’t dig the scent personally as it was a tad musky for my liking.

I got annoyed to see that they are based out of South Beach Florida because in my mind they are eating sushi by the beach and paying the tab with my hard earned money. Which reminds me of the time some French guy hit on me at a bar in South Beach and kept telling me how he doesn’t ever “French Kiss.” I remember holding my drink and wondering what the heck guy was talking about, and how that was any of my business. I digress…

$24 per month does not two beauty products make. I won’t even go into the brands as one is only found in hotels and the other is not selling the scent included on its website. I am unhappy to say the least.

I am posting this to caution those new to boxes that box scams are out there and it is best to wait before plunging in for annual subs. It is really tough to get your money back! Also when there is a lame resolution you will become ragey reading Facebook posts that thank the scammers for “trying.” Ugh.

    So, has there been any more word from French Box defending their products as not being old and out of date? This is just atrocious. Wonder what happened at the business. Did they finally lure enough people in that they thought they could get away with that? Sad.

      They didn’t say much of anything and used vague wording. It’s all on their Facebook. They didn’t say that they were at fault for anything and they made it seem like it was a surprise that the box was so bad. I swear there are people on the Facebook thanking them.

    IMO, stay away from annual subs! Disclosure – I do have an annual BirchBox sub which seems to be low risk and is also a low amount for a yearly sub. There are subs that I enjoy that tempt me with yearly discounts. It take some effort to recoup your money from the cc company based on what I read. Any news on your credit card dispute? I generally stick with 3 month renewals.

    I think it will be difficult for FrenchBox to stay in business. They have to find brands willing to be in their boxes and keep/add subscribers. I think it may be difficult for them to find brands because of the negativity around them. One never knows. Boxycharm started off with difficulties and rebounded as an in-demand sub with higher quality items.

      You are so right! I have a few still but I won’t do that again. I’m betting french box will go under. I’m still waiting on news but I’m not letting it go lol they realllllly did not deliver!

    Did you see the comment on the MSA forum about how these products are also old? One of the commenters actually called the companies that make them. The scrub was discontinued in 2011 while the shower gel was part of a kit discontinued in 2013. BTW, they sent out the lotion from that kit in 12/14.

    If I was you, I’d dispute the charges. Even if this company doesn’t go down, you can’t trust that anything they send won’t be crap.

        I’m on my phone and will check tomorrow. I can’t find the comments on MSA. Wow. FB was insistent that the scrub was made in 2/15.

        Has March Bare Bliss arrived? That box was my first negative experience with subs. I subscribed with the first box. Same with French Box. Now Bare Bliss offers less with a higher price and look at French Box. I think their first boxes came out within a month of each other.

          I went to the Bare Bliss Facebook page and there are 2 comments from Gilt customers saying their accounts are on hold.

          Bare bliss has NOT arrived, nor has glossy, nor has golden tote. I’m regretting bare bliss at this point. Oh and klover hasn’t shown up either so….sigh

            What did you order? I so wanted the maxi but no luck. I got the giraffe dress and strangely picked out the pineapple sweatshirt lol… Yeah this month hasn’t been great. I’m excited to get sorted and in a routine and also my boxes lol

            I got the blue dress and the peach flower dress (husband’s pick). I was eyeing that black maxi, but got one pretty similar in my surprise tote and there are only so many black maxi dresses I need.

            It is so hilarious! The best part is the bear feels like a bear type material (of the teddy bear ilk lol) I will say that some people say mean things about it! but they just aren’t in on the joke…

            I don’t know why FB claimed differently. They had to know that people will check the products.

    Golden Tote seems to be late this month. At least the customers ban together to help each other in figuring out which orders are shipping.

    Have you contacted Kloverbox yet? I received my box back when most of the reviews posted.

    My March BirchBox is lost in transit. They haven’t sent me a replacement box yet. Why did it happen in a month when I like the box. I want my original March box! This could had happened to February’s box and I wouldn’t care. No Causebox either.

    I can’t wait to see your Golden Tote!

      I jst got a shipping notice for Golden tote which I’m excited about! I emailed klover and they apologized. They said they’d send it but no tracking. I’m kinda sad about it as I won’t likely see it until April. Lost in transit sucks! They are usually good about getting things right but birchbox has weird shipping. I can’t wait for GT!

      My Causebox showed up a few days ago – not an impressive month at all. I was very disappointed in it, esp after last box.

          it was bleh – so many things they could have picked from and they picked a bullet…… Been getting GlobeIn, first month this month and I LOVED it. I just gotta stop reading MSA….

          I wasn’t happy with my Causebox either. The boys and I enjoyed the first box. I cancelled right away once I received the second box. I learned my lessons from other subs. Wait until you receive the package before cancelling if billing time permits.

          Also a few of the items were redundant. Don’t vendors ever say to a sub company that this has already been featured in a box ie the bullet necklace? Especially something that did not go over well the first time – FFF Winter box.

            I hate redundancy but wonder if other people actually only get one box? I got the obsession so I can’t imagine such a person lol the key necklace seemed to be popular. I was hoping to see a better cause box so that I could talk myself into buying it!

            I’ve wonder about that especially since Sevenly is an established company.

            It seemed to happen a lot this month with the book Ready Player one, the Baggu bag (I wouldn’t mind another one) and the bullet necklace.

          I will post ASAP! And thanks for reading my silliness in the first place. I feel guilty when I pass by the tub with all my boxes waiting for their reviews so that I can give away items, donate them, and use them! I DID eat the popcorn from the Popsugar box because I have no food and am digging in the oddest places trying to find snacks. Even the gross ones that came in my bulu box LOL
