Ipsy Review April 2015

Ipsy (www.ipsy.com) is a subscription that costs $10 a month and sends out four or five deluxe sample size beauty items. Because of the price point it invites comparisons with Birchbox. Ipsy is more make up based, and has a “waitlist.” You can skip this wait if you pimp out your social media. I just emailed and asked to be put on the list and it was done very quickly.

This month’s theme? Beautifully  Bohemian. Which is pretty funny considering living a bohemian lifestyle would likely mean turning your back on things like metallic temporary tats. However with festival season upon us I was not surprised to see this “look” pop up.

I actually think the layering of necklaces is realistic for music festival goers. I TOTALLY wouldn’t leave all my necklaces in my tent to be possibly stolen either!

Sorry about my scraggy looking nail in the picture. I am a straight slob.

Anyway, I was super excited to get a SPECIAL invitation. I mean sure, it is a special invitation given to everyone who gets a bag, to pay $75 to go to an event, where “gurus” such as “Dope2111” and other more talented ladies will be meeting and greeting. I would feel so very, very, old.

The bag
The bag

The bag: Super cute right?!? I do enjoy that Ipsy includes a new make up bag each month but last month’s looked like garage sale curtains to me. Which isn’t something I am above by any means. This bag has a summer theme that made me want to go on vacation. I mean, yeah I ALWAYS want to go on vacation but ya know, more than usual.

Perfect to hold those beach beauty essentials like lipgloss and pepper spray.

Julie Nail Polish - Damsel
Julie Nail Polish – Damsel

Julie Nail Polish – Damsel: Boy, I sure could have used this before those unkempt nail photos above were taken! This is a nice color for spring! I have not used it yet because  at the moment I am wearing grey chipped nail polish and I could not possibly get up to get remover and leave my wine unattended.

Is it me or is it a shame that “damsel” is only really used when we say “damsel in distress?”

The $1 off Rite Aid coupon that came with it will probably stack with my Rite Aid card savings making me feel like an extreme couponer!

Klorane - Dry Shampoo
Klorane – Dry Shampoo

Klorane – Dry Shampoo: I am always excited to try a new dry shampoo! It has “oat milk” in it which is not something I have ever heard of. I’m going to wait until my fur is good and greasy before I put this to the test which should not take too long at all. I bleach my hair and so I can’t wash it everyday or it’ll all fall out. My chin is just too weak to rock a bald head. Trust me, I thought about it…

It says it is for “brown to dark hair” so I now have an excuse to let my roots grow in!

The Balm Eyeshadow - Flirty

The Balm Eyeshadow – Flirty: This eyeshadow goes on pretty smooth and I like the color. I just don’t know about the way they are selling it. I sort of feel like a pervert busting this out to use. Thank goodness only the cat is there to witness me use it. I am sure it doesn’t help that I say “Why helllllooooooo there!” as I open it with a leer.

Is it bad that I want to give this guy a name and some sort of backstory? For me his name is Kent and he is haunted by a tragic past. He models on eyeshadow boxes to have enough money for hair gel and fluffy towels. He has a pet llama named Killer who saved his life when his hair got to close to an open flame.

Looks like I have a Plan B guy should I get dumped!

Starlooks Lipgloss - Cuddle
Starlooks Lipgloss – Cuddle

Starlooks Lipgloss – Cuddle: The lipgloss is not super pigmented so it adds a bit of color with some sparkle. The scent is sweet, which can put some people off of it. I just don’t see this color as one that deserves the name Cuddle. I think maybe a nice pink or plum would be more like a cuddle than a brownish color. This color to me represents a cuddle with someone you don’t really want to cuddle with.

Great to wear slather on your gob when you want to smell like you have been eating donuts but haven’t had any!

I did get some other product that looks like it might be a concealer but there is zero info about it and the label has no info.

Final Verdict: I really liked this bag. None of the products stuck me as going with the theme besides the dry shampoo but the bag itself was really cute. I felt this month was a great value for my hard earned $10 and that I got products I could have fun trying out!

    As usual, very, very funny.

I just subscribed to ipsy for my daughter who wanted a makeup subscription. I couldn’t find another for $10. I hope she likes it. Or rather, I hope she doesn’t like it as that would save me $10 a month. Of course, if she likes it a lot then I could blackmail her with it.

Thanks Nana! Lol I think you are so smart! She will dance to the beat of your drum. If my mom only had such power when I was younger…

Cuddle would go well with the pepper spray in your new bag…. That would be the right type of cuddle for that color. This does look like a good bag for the price. Not sure about the packaging on the eyeshadow. I think we all need a dozen hands to get through all the nail polish we get though.

Haha you are so right! No one will be able to rest easy when the bag is around….will I be in a cuddle mood reaching for lippy or is it the spray? Yeah I have started to paint my nails more just to try to use it!

I think it is called cuddle because it is Teddy Bear brown. Also, the color of my boyfriend’s skin & he is really great to cuddle with 🙂

Well now it seems all cute!!! Ugh, my skin tone color is such a sickly pale shade I doubt they could make a name cute enough to sell it to anyone…

I always wonder if the amount Balm spends on their sample packaging is worth it. It must be expensive.

Better warn his llama about the goat syndicate.

Well the llama is a part of the resistance movement. It’s all very hush hush but I have been doing my best to spy on the goat syndicate. I feel the Lavender Mafia might be giving the goat syndicate enough trouble to stop the. From gaining more power. The Scarf Terrorists wait in the wings…

I am not a huge Balm fan. It’s not like the products suck, they just aren’t ever the best.

Don’t forget about the blue purse group waiting in the shadows for the rest to fall……

The most cunning group, the blue purse group feeds on the fallen!

That blue purse group is never going to go away. That’s the great part about owning a sub business. If you love blue purses, you can include them as much as you want.

Hahaha well I do love the blue one from popsugar. I swapped for it and was so happy. I don’t like to carry a lot around when I go out for dinner or whatever so it’s perfect. If I had a sub business I would likely be an anxious mess. I totally wouldn’t read people’s reviews. I’d have to have someone do that and then give me the basic feedback, like no lavender or people like this or that.

I went and looked at what my first Ipsy bag will have. I got this for my daughter who wanted a makeup subscription. And what do I get? FOUR non-makeup products. The only makeup is the eye shadow that you got this month, and I’m not sure how appropriate that is for a 13 yo.

Other than that I’m getting hair oil, toner, CC cream and facial cleanser. If the box was for me, I’d be happy enough – but my daughter won’t be happy. I wonder if I should unsubscribe and try something else.

I would give them another month. Then review your items. They seem to take reviews into account unlike Birchbox. It took me a bag to start getting stuff I personally was interested in.

I am getting my first Ipsy this month and not too excited either. But then I still have to see how many of these I can use with my allergies. I did get the IT Cosmetics and Glamglow sneak peaks as well as oscar bland hair lift mousse, nude dude eyeshadow and klorane patches. I know I can’t use glamglow but I know that ought to trade well at least. Don’t use mousse, not excited about brown eyeshadow, but will use if I can. Bag looks fun, I like Birchbox cause the price is low enough to try things out so Ipsy should be good for me, especially if they read comments after the first box.

ROTFL, the spell check changed Ipsy to Tipsy!

Lol tipsy sounds a whole hell of a lot more fun! 😉

I like birchbox a ton! Ipsy does listen. I put I like tools a lot and whenever they have brushes or tools I always get it. I also put highly that I like tinted stuff so I get BB and CC products.

The glam glow will totally be popular in swap. It has a very devoted following. I totally don’t need anymore mousse. I always swear I’ll use it but never do…
